I would imagine that the reaction this congregation had was similar to the reaction congregations had years ago. @dionysius09 Funny, I have looked through the Bible in the Hebrew/greek and homosexuality isn't there. In fact, it took until the 1950's to add that word in. According to most Rabbis, the old testament doesn't mention the issue when translated properly, also many scholars now believe that Paul is talking about pederasty rather than homosexuality. Hebrew (the Old Testament) does not mention homosexuality, and I can prove it. The Greek (New Testament) uses the word arsenokoitai in Greek (transliterated into English letters). Arsenokoitai is a word meaning sexual abuse like rape and adultery.

We now know that women are not property to be bargained or sold. And now we know gay people are part of the human condition, a part of who we are, and about as remarkable as left-handed people. That doesn't make you good or bad; it's morally neutral. It's what you DO that's important. You can be a loving person or a jerk, straight or gay.
Jesus taught us not to read scripture and hold it up as a means of judging others...whatever you or I think theologically should be true is separate from the way Jesus has called us to live. "Love thy neighbor as thyself and pray for those who persecute you....Love one another as I have loved you." I cannot judge against anyone's lifestyle or preferences or beliefs. My personal choice is love above all. I think that's what Rev. Baker is saying here, and I am here to witness to his truth.

You are right on one point, we are to love,but, we have an obligation to love enough to lead to righteousness through Jesus, we do not need to bash others who walk in sin for we all sin and fall short,thus our need for Jesus, but we can not tell someone that sin is not sin and go ahead keep living in sin and Jesus will allow it, we are to repent and turn from sin, I have friends who are homosexual, they know what I believe ,and I never make them feel as if Jesus or I reject them, .

I have read the Bible and only about 50% of it is even comprehensible to contemporary people. If you have reag it, you know exactly what I am talking about. The gist of the Bible can be summed up in probably one or two chapters and you wouldn't lose ANY essential information.

@ktrant Sodom and Gomorrah were NOT destroyed for being inhospitable. The three visitors going to Abraham and being welcomed (and not being welcomed in the city) is a metaphor for the righteous who will welcome the trinity and the wicked who will not. Sin was RAMPANT in the city - and THAT is why it was destroyed. I'm not even going to go into the homosexuality argument because you have it entirely incorrect from the start.

The bible does teach against it,as well as adultery, bestiality,etc., in the old and new testament. It was so bad in the city of Sodom that Lot tried to offer his daughters to pacify the men who wanted to have sex with the angels that were visiting him.

@dionysius09 Funny, I have looked through the Bible in the Hebrew/greek and homosexuality isn't there. In fact, it took until the 1950's to add that word in. According to most Rabbis, the old testament doesn't mention the issue when translated properly, also many scholars now believe that Paul is talking about pederasty rather than homosexuality. Finally, Jesus never once mentions the issue. Be careful friend, by hating other people it may be you who is twisted.

Hebrew (the Old Testament) does not mention homosexuality, and I can prove it. The Greek (New Testament) uses the word arsenokoitai in Greek (transliterated into English letters). Arsenokoitai is a word meaning sexual abuse like rape and adultery.

Jesus taught us not to read scripture and hold it up as a means of judging others...whatever you or I think theologically should be true is separate from the way Jesus has called us to live. "Love thy neighbor as thyself and pray for those who persecute you....Love one another as I have loved you." I cannot judge against anyone's lifestyle or preferences or beliefs. They all have truth that you do not understand, which is why, when you take them at face value in english words, the direct, literal meaning of those words is offensive. God's word was written in many different literary styles. Some is literal, some poetic, some prose, some alegorical, some written to a specific people at a specific time & situation.
