Very nice demo! I like a touch screen, especially if it is color. On my Wersi Pegasus, makes it so easy to access features and sounds. I will have to check this "New" Korg out as it sounds great! I just wished that many maufactures of synthesizers and digital pianos would go to a touch screen, maby Apple Computer could help them with such technology.
Rich: I have watched your demos for the M50 on YouTube for different stores and you have me convinced. AS a musician/pianist/composer/arranger, it is clear to me that this is the right keyboard. That's becuase YOU showed the potential for the instrument in all of those areas. You are a talented guy and show how the thing can really be used. Bet that don't hurt your sales career either. ; )
@PranayParti007 Korg M50. It has much more "jaw dropping" sounds, its much more versatile, and has a much better engine. Roland has nice workstations too, but the Gi, when compared to the M50 is not one of them.
I was turned onto Korg keyboards when I purchased a Wavestation in the early 90s, and from there I've owned a MOSS Trinity Pro, a KARMA, a Triton Studio (with EXB-MOSS), an 88-key M3 (with EXB-RADIAS) and the M50 61-key. I can say, as an experienced player, that the M50 is a great keyboard. It's lightweight, but it has very professional sounds and features. The presets are the same as the M3, as good as you can get. The portability makes it a great live board. And it feels great to play.
The sounds are pretty decent, but if you were to drop that sucker, goodbye! Guess they had to cut corners somewhere, and it was in the construction. Very cheap materials were used to make this unit. That, and the huge power brick that comes with this is not cool. That aside, sounds far more expensive than it looks.
Just dont be expecting the computer-integration to work, Korg havent updated their USB-driver for 10 months, so none of their USB-connective devices works on updated computers. That means everything from updating firmware, to editors, to moving data or recordings to and from the computer wont work untill Korg gets off their asses... Do note, it's been a problem for 3 months, they've known for 4 months, and still no fix/update... Mac OSX is worst hit atm, but Windows isnt far behind...
hi ...loved your review.i am planning to buy a new keyboard.i have shortlisted the yamaha psr s710 and the korg m50.i just love the guitars of the s710.havent got to hear the korg guitar sounds yet though, can u tell me which one i should go for/i already have a yamaha psr e403.
Does anybody know if its Possible to write like notes or lyrics, like for example I want to be able to read the Chords of a Song in the Screen of the m50, is it possible?
Apart from all of the workstation B.S., there is a very fine digi. synthesiser in the M50 - and an incredible effects section including a solid granular feature. The sound is fantastic, better than the Blofeld and on par with Nord stuff, but if you are into synthesis you might be put off by all the cheesy presets.
i might get one of these. for mid-level board it sounds pretty good. i would like to hear more of the bass & drum sounds. the m3 is heavier and light colored. i move my boards around a lot. so this would be better for me as a second workstation board.
the whole keyboard is crazy, i watched a lot of videos, but none of the videos shows how I can change presets quickly.. can somebody tell it? for example with foot switch pedal, or can I set a preset-changing command for one of the keys? or how?

@KurtS94- In PROGRAM mode, press PAGE SELECT, then touch the "Osc/Pitch" button on the display. Touch either the "Osc1 Pitch" or "Osc2 Pitch" tabs, and you can adjust the bend range using the JS(+X) (bend right) and JS(-X) (bend left) range.
In COMBI mode, press PAGE SELECT, then touch "Track Param" on the display. Then, go to the "Pitch 1-8" or Pitch 9-16" tabs, and you can adjust the bend range for each individual Program.
This guy is great, he gave me a great demo in person at the KORG M50 release last year and I was blown away at what he was doing on the fly, i bought one then on the spot. I've had it since and it's just great, I have the smallest one n play live and the sounds are just amazing, but I would go with the 88 key if you like the whole key thing, and hard keys too, I highly recommend it to any one it's very simple to use plus it's got great features all compressed into a small keyboard
@brianblue8121 You can extend to 88 - buy good midi weighted board like I do :-). Look, when you want to play with a band on rock organs, I take only 61, 7 kg. When I want to play piano, I take bigger and smaller is standing over it :-) And moreover - in studio or at stage you have possibilities to use paralelly two boards if weighted is connected to another source of sound. Regards, Luke
did you mean "what kind of amp should i get"? if so, i have this keyboard and these M-Audio studio speakers mounted on the wall, and it sounds incredible. this is a great keyboard.
yes you could, you would need to get one of those adapters for your speakers that makes the tip of the cord bigger (i can't remember what that's called...) but i wouldn't suggest using computer speakers for best sound quality, because it would likely clip a lot (distort). i use M-Audio Studiophile AV-30's and they sound great.
Man, you need keyboard or prof.workstation synth? M50 is workstation, dedicated for musicians working rather on live stage, or in studio. In that matter, speakers wolud only increase its weight. If you want to play in your room you should think of keyboard - less or more sophisticated, but keyboard. They have in-bilut speakers. Hugs
@mattliebl6199 OK I see. For that purpose M50 is ideal. I played this board few hours till now, but I find it very impresive - especially for good piano and synth solos. I decided to buy 61 keys and separately midi wejghted board so I can choose what will be taken for live. For the differance in prices you can get preetty good weighted midi board so you have extra synth keys inbuilt in smaller-sized M50 v.61 (more comfortable when you dont want to play piano on stage & always take 25 kg Hugs
@ogladacz100 Have you ever tried the Yamaha KX8 as midi controller (for the M50, in my case)? I think i'm gonna buy it but I still never put my hands on it..
I play the drums and bass, but know next to nothing about keyboards/workstations. Nonetheless, I played around with the Korg m50 at a local Guitar Center, and I ended up buying it. It hasn't arrived yet, so I haven't had a chance to mess around with it. Anyways, getting to my question, what do I need to have to be able to play it properly? What type of speakers? Should I buy a keyboard amp? I have a PA system as well as a bass amp, but I don't believe I should use either of those.
RF, Programs 3-16 do not sound when editing a combi, like 003! ...not even with Play and not Mute on, Solo on... are the volume settings offsetting each the other? ...any advice? ...anyone? Please reply under this comment ASAP! Thanks!

I'm in between the 2 of them but I really don't know what sampling or what after-touch is plz can someone tell me what they are and what they do I would really appreciate that =D
Touch screen = yay! No sampling option = boo! I guess it's all in what you need it for. I wish they went with the sampling option that it's predecessor, Korg TR had. :(

can someone reccomend me a KORG that will do all of this and more (drum sounds also) PLEASE...I'm looking for something
I disagree. I own an XS Motif, and I own a Roland Fantom x and I like my Korg M50 much better. The sequencer on the Fantom and Motif is much better but then again, this was a budget board but daaaam the sounds are killer. Blow the Motif and Fantom away.

M50 has better sounds and more effects. However, Juno G has - a limited - sampling capability. It also has a 4 track digital audio recorder on board for recording other instruments or vocals.
Have faith my friend, I thought the same thing during the 80's pop revolution... we can never be replaced...who else is going to program the keyboard demos, and canned music? lol!
I've had an M50 for almost a year now and really enjoy it.
