  • on imovie its not chroma keyer its just greenscreen. i want the real thing.

  • i dont have the dots you used and i dont know where to find them to change my timeline...

  • i do not have that thing on my imovie ! 0:52 how do i get it there?

  • Hey Matt, I'm a big fan. But don't you think this video shows Apple being cheap? It seems like iMovie is almost identical to Final Cut Pro X. I'm not an apple fanboy, and definitely don't think everything they make is great, but don't you think this video makes it seem like you shouldn't buy Final Cut Pro?

  • will imovie or final cut work on a pc?

  • @brickman409 Nope, but there are several great PC video editors out there, such as Vegas and Premiere

  • @MattsMacintosh

yeah ive seen those before but theyre really expensive like $600. but i guess thats cheaper than getting a mac lol

  • PLEASE ANSWER! What do you use to record ur screen and how did you do the circle effect at 0:33

  • @odee900 I use screenflow.

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks and how did you do the circle effect at 0:33?

  • Where did you get all your Macs?

  • What is the song you had at the end?

  • nice!

  • Is this without plug-ins? Or do you have to download plug-ins?

  • i can't wait until the actual final cut pro x comes out for freeeeeeee!!!!!!

    thumbs up if you agreeeee!!!!!!

  • @Omango99 You'll be waiting forever buddy.

  • Sony Vegas 11 PRO!!!! :D i love it! :D

  • so should i invest in final cut pro X or no? i already have iMovie but really want to advance with my editing skills

  • Your videos are really inspirer. Thanks....

  • What sound background music do you use in all of your videos?

  • thank you i love this

  • I don't know why but i don't have that button at 0:54 .

    Can you help please?

  • @AndrewANDKunaal Maybe you don't have iMovie 11.

  • @AndrewANDKunaal Thats a feature in Imovie 11. You might have iMovie 09 which means you just need to upgrade to 11.

  • i have final cut express but prefer to use iMovie final cut express is good but for that i doing iMovie is better because is just so better for the eyes and so easier i use final cut express to edit movies i make with my friends

    -WTFshortfilmz

  • I dont have the buttons like in 1:25. Do you know how I can get that?

  • @MattsMacintosh is there a way to adjust the volume of a selection of a clip in Final Cut Pro X like in iMovie 11 ???

  • Comment removed

  • Where have I heard that music before at the end... I think I saw it in some hilarious parody video....

  • I just started to use iMovie ur amazing man. Ur vids help me a lot

  • omg i love you no homo ahaha

  • Matt, how did you get the background of imovie to be black??? Isn't the normal imovie 11' white???

  • Thanks so much for this vid

  • he sounds like kermit the frog

  • The video was good, but I didn't like the way you degraded iMovie. I am very much looking forward to using that application, I have been drooling over it for quite some time and I don't want anyone spoiling saying, "ooh it's nothing special".

  • @Tutorialz4Mac I think I did the exact opposite. iMovie is awesome, and probably the best software-to-cost value out there.

  • @MattsMacintosh Well that's not what I quite deduced. Oh well, my mistake. iMovie rules, can't wait to get snow leopard so i can finally gain access to ilife 11!

  • @MattsMacintosh Can you do this with iMovie 09?

  • @Tutorialz4Mac Oh...It's Nothing Special. You Mad Bro?

  • @RonnieSpeaksTv I LOVE IMOVIE!

  • @Tutorialz4Mac Lol.. same here

  • @revolutiongurl76 imovie is for the mac...

  • holy shitttt

  • you have mentioned before that 60d videos end up being h.2something. how do you convert it into a .mov or something

  • Firstly, great videos Sir. Been favouriting a few of yours now.

Does FCPX have a vertical precision bar/line that you can drag where you want it or as opposed to iMovie seemingly making me have to manually click with the mouse to where I want to be? Sorry, I'm new to macs/iMovie and am considering FCPX.

Also, I know FC imports iMovie projects, but is that in full editable form, complete with all of your title sequences you worked so hard to create and can't quite ever repeat the same?

  • what about keyframing

  • @revolutiongurl76 You can't. Buy a Mac.

Trust me it's worth it. ;)

  • @MattsMacintosh I want to try harder and harder to get Mac stuff, so that the only thing I end up using xp in parallels for is my windows games.

Is iMovie a patch on Macromedia flash for animations or is there any others designed for macs and that are free?

I have searched and searched but no luck. The only one I come across is adobe flash professional one that is very pricey.

Another question is if you know any free programs on getting me started in designing video games. I do not mean to

  • To long then I guess

  • @MattsMacintosh can I use iMovie to create flash animations? I know you done that magical magic trackpad animation, but I was wondering if it is any better than Macromedia Flash. I love Macromedia Flash a few months ago when was in school, and used my school product code for activating it, but that is long lost now, that is ever since I had to restore my netbook.

I would be more than happy to buy Macromedia Flash, but it is windows only, and although I have xp in parallels desktop, I want to t

  • Aha, thats exactly how I use iMovie xD

  • MAY THE KINGS AND QUEENS OF SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT RAIN DOWN A

    PLAGUE OF NON-LINEAR NIGHTMARES

  • You Are tHe Best

  • OR just get Final Cut X

  • And then Apple released iMovie Pro... I mean, Final Cut... Pro...

  • Yeah, I was scratching my head a lot watching the audience's reaction to Final Cut Pro X; I kept thinking, "But I've been doing that in iMovie for two years now..."

  • Great video, but what do you think would be a better choice for video editing, Final Cut X or iMove '11? I am currently using iMovie '11 and I love it, but I am not sure if i can be impressed with the upgrade to final cut x. If you have seen any of my videos, they are not extremely professional but are slowly getting better in depth with editing. My camera isn't great but I will soon upgrade to a better HD one. So Matt, for a small Tech reviewer with an ok camera which software would be better?

  • 2:59 FPS Russia :D

  • Excellent job! Thanks for this insight!

  • Thanks! Very useful video :)

  • To make the audio detachment easier, hold down command and select all the clips you want the audio to be detached from. Then detach it, and it will all happen at the same time! :D

  • thanks for the vid

  • @MattsMacintosh is winning !!!

  • Is iMovie 11 a worthy upgrade from iMovie 09?

  • @SDKTutor i think it would be

  • Average apple fanboys will ooh and ahh at things that were already there. In apple products and not in apple products.

  • Matt, this is great! Looking forward to Final Cut X!! Thumbs Up!

  • I'm just starting to play with the new iMovie, but it looks like it should be fun. A lot to learn!!

  • You are the best tech reviewer on YouTube! You Are Awesome Matt!

  • Your voice is really nice to listen to, and you always sound so happy. Keep it up!

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you're using iMovie '09. I thought the audio waveform view was only in iMovie '11.

  • Matt, thanks. They only thing I miss in iMovie11 is the possibility to add more than 1 effect to a clip, such as Vignette + Hard Light or one of the other video effects. Any solution for this?

  • Very cool video and tip!

  • Cool tips. Unfortunately, i can't use 'em. I had to downgrade back to iMovie '09....bcuz my cursor kept lagging in the project window in iMovie '11. Even the Apple Genius Bar couldn't figure out the problem.

  • cool

  • i got ilife 10' and now that sucks :D

  • Final Cut X Express

  • thank you very much!

  • Enjoyed the video. Thank you.

    Tim

  • @chessdude67 You're welcome. Thanks for watching!

  • @MattsMacintosh Does this work with imovie 09?

  • HOW BIG IS THAT SCREEN?

  • @TheHDGeek He has a 27 inch screen.

  • @Wiejeben Ok. I have 27 inch too but his just looks bigger!

  • @TheHDGeek Are you sure you've set your settings to 2560x1440? If you're looking at the dock size (at the right), you can change the size of it.

  • @TheHDGeek I got it.. He has a 27 inch Apple Cinema display, which has 2560x1440 pixels! I looked at your channel, and you've a 27 inch 1920x1080 screen :D

  • @Wiejeben You're wrong mate. I have never changed my resolution. It has always been 2560x1440. The reason that makes me think it's screen is bigger is the hidden dock.

  • Wow really clever Matt! I did not know about the keywords at all or the thing that makes the clips all together on one line. By the way, you can also make the audio appear without right clicking each clip by clicking the tiny button that looks like audio wave forms next to the final clip's display (which is next to a slider) :)

  • @MattsMacintosh I know you're super busy, but please make some time for a tutorial on that Magic Bullets plug-in with which you made an extremely pro video of your parents house.

  • I did this with iMovie 09 it worked well. I have to use iMovie 09 because I use a PowerMac G5. I am very upset with Apple discontuing Final Cut and iMovie 11 for the PowerPC.

  • That is like iMovie 06. No Really. Same layout #LOL Look it up on youtube.

  • when are you gonna make your next video for your best mac apps?

  • That's awesome tips!

    Thanks a lot Matt.

  • Thanks for the video. Very informative and really helped me out a lot.

  • Personally, I think iMovie is OK. I'm used to the format of Premiere Pro, so it's like a backwards step in my brain. Still, it's a good product that works well.

  • nice video, keep it coming

  • You just made my imovie experience more amazing!!! :D I have final cut express but am still using imovie. I don't have enough patients to sit down and try to learn final cut. lol one day.

  • Any way to do this with iMovie '09?

  • this is such a creative tutorial :D

  • very cool.. Didn't know about the key word thing

  • @mokuchley no, there is virtually no limit to the amount of tracks you can put on Final Cut.

  • Are you ever gonna make that WMM>Sony Vegas video you were talking about?

  • Oh how ive always hated iMovie for it's layout. Thanks Matt! Haha I'm personally using premiere, but this video would give me a reason to use iMovie haha

  • Awesome video Matt. I can't wait for the new Final Cut X to come out. Its gonna be the best of both iMovie and Final Cut together. Every YouTuber and Editors dream. :-)

  • @iMactheIphone Not to mention the price they'll be selling it for! I wonder how much the Studio will be? Assuming they continue with the Studio bundle of course. I hope they do. I see no reason for them not to. It'd be awesome to see the kind of polish they put into FCPX into the rest of the suite. I'd love to see the same devotion given to Logic Studio too in the future!

  • Something that people don't realize is that iMovie '11 was given a lot functions that really appeal more to Final Cut users, and that it really can be a powerful video editor. I am by no means saying it is a replacement for Final Cut, I am just saying that there are indefinitely some tools there are way above the standards of iMovie. Great job Matt for pointing just some of these things out.

  • Matt i love your channel even more than soilderknowsbest channel keep the great work up ! :D

  • Great tips, Matt! I definitely need to swap the timeline to the bottom so that I'll be ready for Final Cut Pro X!

  • I didnt know about the keywords. Thanks!

  • I've had my iMovie set exactly like that for months.. :^o

  • To be honest, I don't think I like the new look.

As soon as I started using Final Cut Express, I realised that iMovie, just isn't good enough and thought I'd use it only for smaller things. So I had something small to do, but got frustrated over it and decided to do it on Final Cut instead.

Now whenever I look at iMovie, it kinda makes me feel angry. The features of FCPX sound good, but the look makes me feel like a bit of a n00b.

I might just upgrade to FCS before they discontinue it.

  • Matt, how did you assign keywords to clips? I can't figure out how.

  • @guidobertisch2 I probably should have mention that in the video (sorry about that). Just select the clip you want to add the keyword to, then click the button in the center with the key on it.

  • Awesome tips! Not really in to mimicking Final Cut Pro, but some of these tips (like thumbnails and tags for videos) should really improve my workflow. Thanks!

  • Matt, you should do an office tour?

  • @TechJamieTech I did one a few months ago. You can find it on my channel.

  • I really want to learn how to use Final Cut Pro. Have you or are you going to make a tutorial on the new Final cut Pro

  • @salman6896 I will be making tutorials when the new version comes out.

  • Very helpful video Matt :)

  • Great find on that Matt!! You are awesome!!

  • @mtpflyers Oh no, YOU are awesome. Thanks for the comment.

  • I've unkowingly had iMovie 11 set up like Final Cut for a while now... -__- Hahah, great video Matt! Are you going to be doing a new "My Home" video once you get settled into your new place?

  • @HackTheTouch Yep, I'll probably have a lot of new setup videos after I move.

  • Presuming that Final Cut Pro X is able to do pretty much everything Final Cut Pro 7 can, would you say that it is worth the upgrade for the extra control and/or features? As somebody who made the upgrade from iMovie to Final Cut Pro, why did you decide to change editing programs?

  • @LeonNLK I would say it is only worth it if you have an interest in more advanced features like plug-ins, color grading, pro level codecs, etc. For most people it probably wouldn't be need, but for someone like me that spends a lot of time editing the added flexible is definitely worth it.

  • Do you like the way Final Cut X looks like?

  • This guy is master of editing.

  • How much time do you spend on each video?

  • @TheFrancois1 Depends. This one was about an hour from start to upload. Most of my videos take about 3-4 hours to film and edit.

  • thats nice

  • Thanks Matt! I cant wait for FCPX!

  • Final Cut or Adobe After Effects? Which is better and/or easier to use?

  • @TonyMProductions They are for two different things. Final Cut is for editing, After Effects is for effects. I use them both. I would say they both require an equal amount of skill.

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks! You make great videos! Please make a tutorial for After Effects!

  • Nice vid, but no link at the bottom ;)

  • @Tha2ndWimp Nevermind :O

  • Awesome!

  • Your the only person I know who actually pronounces "Editing" right :P

  • I already had my iMovie 11 layout exactly like this haha. Easier to edit with, but still, really hate iMovie. All the scrolling is annoying and the option screens always get in the way as well.

  • your honestly an amazing youtuber!

  • Neet!

  • I LOVE YOU!

  • not first

  • First, no im just kidding
