@Xethist The only problem is that partners normally make videos that are expected out of viewers and deserve to be attractive. A normal user may be a loser and make a bad or misleading video. Plus, we wouldn't know which video is the best out of the suggestions or not. People that make those misleading videos will use this method to make the thumbnail look like it is default and looks like an amazing event is about to occur.

General steps are:

(1) Add timecode (timer) to buttom layer and add thumbnail at exact millisecond.

(2) Add thumbnail near the end (percent locations).

People get so angry because normal users can't do this. If they were here 4 years ago, they would know that people were abusing the thumbnails with women's breasts, butts, and other images to get more views. This is misleading, and they want a better experience for the user.

Partners can have that ability because of trust and ability to gain their views before they were allowed to upload thumbnails.

Just figure out the algorithms or work up to be a Partner.

2010 UPDATE:

Here is how you do it in 2010:

Tutorial:

When you have your final time on your video (In seconds), divide the time with one of these numbers:

1. 3.09597523

2. 2.85080773

3. 1.44869215

Why? Your video gets a thumbnail from 3 places, and this is where they will show up.

Example: My vid is 5:04:08 Thats 304,08 seconds divided by 3.09597523 = 98.2178401 <----- You but your thumbnail!

It needs to be the exact same size and length.

The only reason why I don't do this myself is because I don't know of a program that let's the user decide the amount of bytes a picture can have.

3: Check out the timer in your thumbnails. (For example 00:57:14)

4: Now make the thumbnail the same place that you saw at the thumbnails (00:57:14)

5: However, Youtube chooses thumbnails from the video SIZE. So if you clip away 1 frame of the vid, the picture has to have the same size

6: You'll need to find a program that control the exact amount of bytes that 1 frame of video had, then replace it with a photo of that size

hey, i found how to get the perfect thumbnail every time.. all of my videos (go ahead look at my page) have 1 frame pictures that are used as the thumbnail that you can see at about 8.5 seconds.

for some reason when i use Vegas 7.0 render a .avi (format NTSC DV) then use the program alltoavi (google it) to convert the avi to an avi (720x480, and max quality on sound/video with bi cubic scaler and DIVX50 encoder) youtube will always place the 1st thumbnail at frame 269 no matter the length
