Very sad to hear. I knew Jani, we worked together at Tower Video on in Sherman Oaks when Warrant was just starting out. Really nice guy back then. He went by John. 1988ish...

Anyone who has ever had an addict in their lives know, you can only hope they will want help. You cannot force them. Russell Brand wrote a wonderful blog on that fact after Amy Winehouse died. You are always waiting for a phone call, either from the addict themselves, saying they want help or from someone telling you the addict is no longer here. Unfortunately, in Jani's case it was the latter. It is a sad thing to watch someone you love destroy themselves and be helpless to stop it.

Robert Mason, you and your bandmates made me very happy with your tribute. I remember connecting w/ you years ago when you, Jani, Glenn Hughes, Joe Lynn Turner all did a benefit together for Ray Gillen. You were so complimentary of Jani even then. You're the perfect frontman/leadsinger for Warrant now. If I were a betting gal (and I'm not), Jani is smiling on you and the band from--HEAVEN.

First off, Mason's not a bad singer..but for fucks sake..please lose the 80's rockstar 101 poses and moves..it really cheapens the whole thing.

Next, the PROPER tribute to lane last night would have been a single spotlight on the lead mic stand/mic..the band playing the song and mason encouraging the crowd to sing it...he should have been the ultimate MC..instead he sang the song with his bendable posable rockstar super moves, pick flicking and tossing, and super stances. Tacky and cheap.

You have no idea what your talking about. A lead singer has the most recognizable signature yet it's the chemistry that makes the band. How much and who are the writers and arrangers, the flavor they bring to the writing process. Ever seen a able to have a game with only a pitcher, quarterback, center? VanHalen was VH yet Roth wasn't., Robert Plant out of Zepplin never sounded again like Zepplin.

@alphamotherwolf How are you so sure they didn't try an intervention? You can do all the interventions you want, but if the person doesn't want help, then it's useless. The person has to WANT the help to receive it. It's also not for you to say whether Erik, Jerry, Steven, and Joey cared about Jani. I'm sure they did, because they tried reuniting with him in 2008. But Jani chose a different path.

And the lead singer doesn't make the band...a BAND makes the band. RIP Jani.
