  • wtf im dancing like techno zhit at 3:41 :O nice zong, I haven't heard anything like thiz in a long time

  • @Calquin123321 Lmao no S key?

  • Nice! it makes me think about liquid tension experiment... with something added!!

  • mmm very nice... i personally wish the drummer was somewhat more creative and less focussed on a straight rhythm. more into the direction of symphony x, dream theater or andromeda...

  • 1:35

  • epicness

  • so this is like a project of Sean Malone as well as an epic supergroup? that's bi-winning

  • fucking amazing bradas!

  • 6:36

Unreal sweeps are unreal! ..as well as the rest of that solo.

These guys win at mixing technicality with emotion.

  • Oh lord the bass lead part at 2:11 wins so much.

  • i like 'em a lot, i hear some hawkwind influence?

  • i like 'em a lot, i hear some hawkwind influence?

  • this was one of the songs that John Muyng from DT helped with right?

  • @drathshouse Just find the part that sounds like Repentance from dream Theater ;D

  • those who like this band HAVE to try the band Planet X.... AWESOME TOO

  • Borat sez very nice!

  • I can't seem to find a bass tab for this song. :(

  • best band ever!! I've never heard music anywhere close to this good. Gordian Knot FTW

  • @bkordel

Check out Cynic, a few of the members that were in it are in Gordian Knot

  • oh yea i know all about cynic, fantastic band. i discovered cynic before gordian knot actually. then all the other great cynic side-projects followed :)

  • Good one!

  • 5:20 ITS MAKE ME CUM

  • GORDIAN KNOT=BETTER THAN GOD

  • GORDIAN KNOT=GOD

  • Oh my... That's just great!

  • it is a song REALLY LOL LOL LOL LOL GORDİAN KNOT=GOD

AND EVERYBODY CAN'T LISTEN TO IT...!

  • wtf... I think I just got into this fusionjazzprogmetalandshit-thing : DDD this is awesome! Gotta buy it x )

  • Check out Obscura, Aghora, Cynic, Atheist and Theory in Practice

  • ....and Portal :)

  • just cause the bass is busy doesnt make it lead bass...sean is grooving throughout...nothing wrong with a bassist stepping foward and shining a little...the problem is egotistical guitarist that cant step back for a damn minute and let the bassist do his thing

  • @nycbassist76

Ron, as one of the best technical guitarists of our time, shouldn't be allowed to shine in a single track out of the whole album. How dare he!?

    AmIrite?

Just skip the track if you can't appreciate all of the musicians in the band.

  • @Vhaltz i'm confused by your comment???...i do love the guitars here...was making a general comment about music and musicianship and the maturity it takes to step back and do whats right for the song and compliment each other and how all the musicians should shine...and do here...

  • wow, awesome song, the first i heard from that band. I'll listen more

  • With bass being often a 6 or even 7 string instrument now days of course there will be an evolution of extended boundaries which is great ;I myself am a fusion 6 string guitar player but I was telling my wife while listening to fischers gambit anyone can throw out a rhythm on bass but few are great bass players and it's hard to be innovative on bass at times you here it with bands all the time;they would be better with a better bassist, that being said Hail Gordian Knot and Sean!

  • The freaking bass reminds me of Rush's XYZ.

  • 3:41 isn't that the same part Sean uses in the outro of Satya by Aghora?

  • Hahaha, you're almost right, extremely close but not exactly the same... kudos for Sean anyway

  • Yeah, it's a different key and slightly different rhythm. But hey, if I came up with a groove like that I'd be using it more than he does.

  • wot a nice mixture! jazz and metal ! kl i oved teh guitar and the drumming

  • Too bad he plays the same things he played on Cynic's Focus

  • Sean Malone=God

  • Finally a band where bass is given its rightful role. I'm sick of bands who think the bassist can only play a series of the same notes over and over. Sean Malone FTFW.

  • I don't know if I understand you fully, as your sentence flow is absolutely illogical, but if so:

Because bass guitar isn't as limited as the lead guitar (think about it). Also, fretless sounds fucking awesome :)

  • You don't find that it sounds far better as a rhythm instrument?

At least in the less jazzy parts?

  • Nah, it make melodies sound awesome, too ;) At least imho. And I'm a bassist. So :P I like my instrument.

  • I actually agree with you, bass was originally invented as a rythm instrument, although it certainly sounds cool doing leady stuff in this song, if that was all the bass ever did in this band it would be a bit redundant to have a bass player at all.

  • Pff :P bass rocks as lead

  • sean malone is a bass god

  • I know this isnt Rons band so to speak but im a Jarzombek fanatic, I love everything hes done and this... whoa! This is just insane. This is a true supergroup.

  • Ron had a major part in this album - he wrote those awesome guitar parts - not just the leads - on the songs he plays on and is not credited for any of it. He and Trey Gunn gave GK1 a lot of character - none of the guitar players on GK2 are even remotely close to those two.

  • I enjoy some of the structural narration on Emergent more so than on this album, in that it is more pronounced. However, I am by no means an avid follower of guitar technique, and spend most of my time listening to classical music for it's structural poetry rather than it's technical complexity. I do love this album though, and the musicians are definitely more technically apt on this offering, which I commend them for.

  • Yeah for sure, i dont often listen to the second album.

  • i didnt know that ron played with them. im assuming since youre talking about him here he played on this song?

  • Yes, he plays on this song, 'Code/Anticode' and another one. All the guitar lines you're hearing starting at 0:31 thru 1:35 is Ron. The clean/acoustic stuff is Glen Snelwar; Trey Gunn play that cool Warr guitar mid-section that kicks in ~ 3:12. Ron then plays the extended solo at the end that starts at 5:21 and fades out.

  • this its a beautifull song its made for doing things with passion

    like having sex e.e

  • One of the best electric and bass solo ever.

  • Best band ever this is just sick

  • Fantastic playing, excellent melodies, stellar production. It's spazzy and technical without being annoying for annoyings sake. I approve.

  • E=MC2

  • that doiesn't have anything to d with it... the album is a photograph of the result of a neutron collider

  • SHIT, First time I listen to this! ...

is it normal to have orgasms while listening to this?

I bow down and pray ... holy Gordian Knot ...

  • Is john myung playing on this? Does John Myung play on this whole album??

  • He was a guest musician on this album.

  • So on what songs does he play??

  • Don't know for sure, but to quote a review from Amazon:

John Myung contributes some Chapman Stick of his own on "Srikara Tal" and "Redemption's Way"

So I guess he plays on those two tracks...

P.S. Hope this doesn't end up posted 100 times or so; YT comments are bugged :-|

  • Thanks - I'm somewhat of a John Myung fanatic

  • This must be one of his coolest bass parts 0:17

  • im wetting my pants right througt the intro and the 2rd parts takes my balls off and make it bigger ...

  • WTF!?

  • yeah this is music that grabs you by the hand and take you on a journey

  • fucking epic solo

  • I'm new to this band...wow.

  • I like technical frittery... I also like apple fritters. I'm not entirely certain how the two are correlated.

    ...But I know that there's a connection!!

  • Or, you could listen to what you like, and we could listen to what we like, and if you don't like it, then piss off.

  • For a start Rush and Budgie did this style from the heart and none of it(well debatably) was a wank, thats why it gives you the shivers and this shit just tickles your brain, Ulver(early), Disharmonic Orchestra(early), for a more european slant on proggy metal. Dixie dregs and the Steve Morse band for the yankee slant.

  • dream teater are strong but they uses their tecnique to enchant the people that doesn't look the art but look only the speed of the solos and other bullshits that kill the real essence of music...gordian knot is an unbelieveble band

  • Thats right man... They slow it down only to fornicate with you roskoden!!!

  • dooode listen to 50 cent for real metal!!!

  • awesome stuff, I love Gordian Knot. Does anybody know of any other similar bands, these guys kick so much ass.

  • Few bands can match this band, but King Crimson is a worthy comparison. Look for their Discipline and The Construktion of Light albums.

  • Try Spiral Architect, Cynic, Spastic Ink (maybe), and Blotted Science.

Also, if you don't mind the vocals you might wanna check out Atheist, although I'd the style is a bit different.

  • and you try Canvas Solaris, A((wake)) and Counter World Experience

  • I already listen to a bit of Canvas, hella good band, and i will check out A((wake)) and Counter World Experience also. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Listen yo Cynic(US), Portal(US), and Anomaly(US) they all have that progressive metal rock fusion going on

  • how about scale the summit?

  • Try Sean Malone's pre-GK solo album 'Cordlandt' which is finally back in print. Also the self-titled Aghora debut (w/ female vocals) which has both Sean Malone & Sean Reinert on it. And check into Jonas Hellborg's 'Abstract Logic' (the song 'Rice with the Angels' especially!) with Shawn Lane on guitar and Kofi Baker on drums. Last but not least, try Cosmosquad - 'Squadrophenia', another monster instrumental disc.

  • dont fuckin compare gordian knot with your kid stuff KORN

  • i was joking about korn with the misspelling of the words korn is pure mallcore shit

  • gordian knot is the real deal

  • Comment removed

  • True, true. You can never really tell.

  • Korn isn't real metal.

  • i was joking apparently

  • you and korn need to die.

  • naw dud britny spirs is war itz at

  • i was being saracastic sarcasm doesnt transfer well on the internet

  • it does if you add a little "kidding" or "jk" or whatever...

  • I figured, which is why I replied in the manner presented. Obvious troll was obvious. ;D

  • gutted used to have this song but it somehow got deleted from my itunes... The last 2 and a half minutes are pure genius.... I can just sit there and spaz out listening to it....

  • awesome song, great band

  • Sean Malone is my Music theory professor. he is a genius musician.. and a badass player

  • You lucky son of a bitch.

I bought his Music Theory book the other day. It is pretty awesome.

  • Come to UCM and study under him!

  • I fucking wish. Unfortunately for me, I failed in high school. = (

  • I don't see how a band name and album cover can be pretentious. : \

  • All the Gordian Knot material makes me weep tears of unbridled joy!

  • perfect

  • its such a cool song!

  • Almost didnt listen to this, because of the pretentious band name and album cover.

It does sound pretty good though, lets see if it will grow on me.

  • you dont like something fair... but pretentious, that requires you to be insulted right?

perhaps a short minds insight drowns at any depth.

i think the intricate problem here might just be you.

  • The name and cover kind of seem to emphasize we are dealing with smart people.

That doesn't insult me, but it almost led me to thinking I shouldn't listen to it.

I am glad I did listen though.

  • With music like this, there is really so much happening, that it will take you some time to fully understand, and I believe, appreciate what is going on here.

The moods, the shifts, the overall complexity takes time. Keep at it, I think you'll soon find yourself just as excited as most of us here are with this band.

  • Totally true, I love bands like this, Blotted Science and Spiral Architect. It's music that makes you think.

  • Totally agree. These musicians are truly genial

  • Gordian Knot > Blotted Science

  • Matters what mood you are in.

  • I don't know man they're both pretty amazing

  • watchu know about spastic ink!

  • I know that eighths is enough.

  • oh dang

  • yes it is but only when you're...suspended on all fours!!!

    ahahahah...i fail...

  • How is the cover pretentious? If it was a Miley Cyrus album, okay... but this is Sean Malone we're dealing with here.

  • lol great answer panda.

I should have said "seemingly pretentious".

  • Much better.

  • Impetuous

  • shivers down my spine!!!!

  • breathtaking.

  • Very good.

  • Spectacular in nuance and complexity, shifting moods and textures. Hot damn, as the tension builds, I am busting musical nut! Step aside, lest I baste you.

  • This song is totally Serene... Its like describing something that does'nt belong to this world. So Beautiful... so descriptive.

This song speaks. This song is the most beautiful song i have heard, lately.

    Ron Jarzombek is Godly.

  • Words can't describe how much I love this song.

  • f u c k k k k k k k k !!!!!!!!!!!this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard! ξυλοκαστρο!γιωργος!!!

  • Wow.

I have to say, this is quite amazing.

  • This so...amazing!

  • I knew this band years ago..and I still think the guitar solo of this song is the most beatifull solo I've ever heard..simply amazing, perfect and hard!!!

  • Holy Balls!!! I love this band!!!

  • this stuff is freaking cool amazing bass player

  • Too freaking good.

  • F'in kewl. Our culture cruised through a nostalgia for the 60s, then the 70s, and then the 80s, but I was afraid we missed the timely resurgence of prog rock along the way. I shoulda realized - it was coming, but virtuoso art takes more time. Thanks for uploading.

  • woow..I've never lisened sth like that yet...

  • progressive > ALL

after my venture into Focus, i HAD to check these guys out, and i must say im glad i did!

    5/5 from me!

  • john myung is cool i wish i could play bass like him

  • Myung didn't play on this song. The only Gordian Knot songs he's played on are Redemption's Way and Srikara Tal. Sean Malone is the bassist.

Jarzombeck did the closing solo? That explains the awesomeness :D

  • The bass playing is very very ¨Malonish¨ anyway

  • Progressive Metal rocks!! Hope you upload more songs soon, this band is amazing but it's really hard to find where I live!

  • thats cause there is only like 2 albums

  • is this bill bruford on drums?

  • Sein reinhert from cynic and death.... on drums

bill bruford is on the emergent album i believe..

if i could actually find these albums in stores id buy both and more for my friends..... shame i had to come in contact with this band through p2p and just deep digging in general... but yah.. glad i discovered them

  • yeah this stuff is good. more musical than most prog.

  • "if i could actually find these albums in stores id buy both and more for my friends"

Why not save yourself a trip and buy them online from their label store, The Laser's Edge, or any of the dozens of e-store that carry them? If nothing else - just ask your store to special order the discs for you. Any store worth its salt should be able to do that if you give them the band name, album title, and label name (Sensory in this case).

  • hell yeah, ron and the 2 seans! You couldn't ask for more talented musicians

  • Sean Malone espectacular bajista...maravilloso ejecutante. =)

  • para mi el mejor

    saludos

  • De mí, es mi favorito. Pero decir que es el mejor...es difícil saberlo. Pienso en alguien como Tony Levin y me invade la duda.

    Saludos.

  • Beautiful track. Sean Malone is the bass player on the entire album, though Myung plays with Malone on tracks 6 and 9.

  • Beeeeutiful. Prog is where it's at. Sean Malone is super bad. Hooray for the Cynic reunion/ new CD.

  • thanks!!

  • The first time i heard about gordian knot was trough Cynic ,i was mesmerized about this kind of music i never heard something like this before

  • who plays guitar for this band?

  • There are 3 guitar players on this album:

Trey Gunn (King Crimson) - Warr Guitar (his solo kicks in ~ 3:40 and lasts thru ~ 4:45)

Ron Jarzombek (Blotted Science) - lead & harmony guitars on 3 songs (he plays the harmonized and melody parts in the long opening section & the big lead at the end starting at ~ 5:20)

Glen Snellwar - (mainly) acoustic guitars on 4 songs (he co-wrote this song)

  • I love Gordian Knot. Great tune.

  • w o w...
