What kind of a charcoal and paper r u using to achieve this effect. When i practise this technique my shadows turn out to be kinda spongy and i cant quite place the charcoal smooth and equal everywhere.Strokes from the stick remain unblanded. I use the softest char I can find- basically a burnd stick and blend with a brush...so it's prob the paper. Mine is smooth...shouldnt it be ? TY for your time, your art is great!
My wife wont let me watch anymore of your videos because I always get the urge to quit my job and pursue my dream of being an Artist after watching you.... ...
David I am sure you have heard this many times but you are a very talented artist. People like you give me inspiration and motivation to pursue my dreams of being an accomplished artist. Thank you for posting these videos for all to see.
Your art is spectacular. A true modern day "Old Master". You've inspired me to pick up my drawing pencils. I will definitely get your dvd. Thank you. Oh, and your model here is terrific. So sad he is homeless.
I received my DVD 2 days ago and watched it twice since. It is worth every cent. Very useful info and so much tips that will bring you forward. I recommend it to everyone who is serious about learning to draw and to paint.
Well I order the DVD...but goodness...this is really expensive...It is good...but wow...I sure hope your painting DVD is more substantial...come on David...we are all artists of limited means...ease up on the price ...please.
WOW you are amazing!! If i may can i ask a quick question? I noticed that your charcoal pencil was very sharp...my pencils, on the other hand break when using any kind of sharpener so im forced to use exacto knives. I was just wondering how you managed to sharpen your pencil without it breaking!!
@PD19954 um i appreciate this, but I'm soooo faraway from being the artist that those guys were, I'm only an art infant in comparison. those guys are my heroes..
@DavidJonKassan well you are on the right path to being them , practicing and doing art the way the masters such as the aforementioned did it, which is quite rare with artists these days, who dont value drawing as much, you and a few others are exceptions it seem. Especially your skin tones are amazing, so life like.
you an art infant? i would love to have the skills you have, i hope one day to learn from you, ie attending one of your workshops and buying your DVDs
@PD19954 ...Well I have to disagree...many of the new artists today DEFINITELY value drawing...look at the Gnommn school...all the people in any animation or related...You learn quickly " line is everything...then value, then colour" Corot....what he said is so true...if one paints in any shape or form representational...drawing is everything...everything...your painting is as good as your drawing...
I love the way you show how alluring the line of the pencil is at the very beginning. I love how modest you are! The work is the most important thing... This really shows a fantastic artist at the height of his powers. Brilliant work, David.
This video is beyond wonderful. The concept is amazing. The technique is awe inspiring. The results are unbelievable. You rock David. FAN-FRIGIN-TASTIC!!!!
hai...i'm from malaysia...sorry bcouse i'm not good in english....but may i ask one question....how can i get this dvd ,,,sorry for bad english......

Please tell me what you are using to do your drawing. It looks like a palette knife but you're working in graphite. Brilliant work. Stay true.

Morality is the same as art: they're both a matter of drawing a line some place.
