  • nice music flute and organ .... moriconne ?

  • That something supernatural occurred is perhaps a given. What I don't think is a given...even with the notorious "secret chapter"...is that the missing women ended their lives here, at least with respect to Miranda.

  • this music is amaizing,i think it is better than original,i love the movie, beautifull job, thank you

  • hello somewhereintime just to say thankyou for getting message about pahr it was really nice to go through my mail and see a reply made me smile thankyou have a good day love junysawrus

  • @junysaerus.. you're welcome :)

  • what a great film it made me go all goosepimply when i saw it in the cinema great filming why are the aussies so good at making these films walkabout for example this was beautiful and haunting was it true i still wonder today what happened to them a mystery would watch it over and over again junysawrusx

  • @junysaerus Thank you for your lovely comment :)

  • Amazing music, does anyone have a music sheet of the melody? or midi?

  • @247Bear many many moons ago I had on vinyl a Gheorge Zamzir album and it had this and if this is not called Miranda's Theme it had that also. Definitely the best two tunes were on that album. I cannot put my hand on that album just now but, like the truth, it's out there somewhere.

  • Beautiful job!!!

This has to be one of my all time favorite Aussie movies, and the soundtrack is to die for.

Love the eerie sounding start and finish..Very apt

    Thanks for sharing this diamond.

  • Doina: Sus Pe Culmea Dealului -

  • Doina: Sus Pe Culmea Dealului - the original

  • Oh wait nevermind. :)

  • No soundtrack? :(

  • What's with all the white noise for the first minute?

  • @wig3 (read the comments below !?) or watch the actual movie which is monumental in time and space and beyond.

  • hi, does any1 know where to download or buy this track please? thanks...

  • does anyone know where to buy this track or download it? thanks

  • @RandomConcepts i thought, in the movie ,when the girls were watchin the rock, or when they were drawn to it, there was that static noise, i think its brilliant ! so damn trippy! one of the most trippy movies of alltime.i think

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • what haunting music

  • My friend's mother worked at the school, it didn't happen, a good story though.

  • i loved thise film and book id love to beleive it did happen and in ways i think it did pepole have vanished on hanging rock long after those girls did also my brother had a huge crush on Mirranda

  • What's the name of the song?

  • thats some haunting choons

  • Secrets. Pani doktor, niech pani nie spadnie ze skały !

  • I have a superb version of this. Its by Gheorghe Zamfir on an old vynal album called Imaginations (CBS 10044) .The organ truely compliments the Pan Pipes. Sadly I do not have the gear to download on to here , if anyone can do it I think many people will enjoy it.

  • This is still OK but nowhere near as good as the actual track in the film. Weir really missed a trick by not making a soundtrack. Too many twiddly bits in this version and no organ. Don't mean to be ungrateful, though. Thanks for posting this.

  • That's alright, thanks for commenting :)

  • could anyone help me find the link to the piano sheet music for Ascent Theme - Bruce Smeaton ??

reply here or post it in my profile =[

  • Sorry I don't know.. good luck with your search.

  • did you ever get the link for theesheet music to the "ascent theme."? i have looked everywhere for it.

  • same here.

  • I wrote a lengthy reply about "Ascent Theme" but it got rejected - If you google "Ascent theme" you'll find a link to a commercial upload site that has a free unofficial soundtrack.

  • Hi beaters9 will have a look, thanks :)

  • I had a look for this somewhereintime43 but couldn't locate any unofficial soundtrack.

  • Good intentions aside the site doesn't appear very secure. Two clicks and you've let some remote server access your HDD. It's not a true P2P file sharing site in my assessment and I've decided to give it a wide berth. Thanks anyway.

  • My favorite part of the music in this movie is when Michael goes out to look for the girls and finds Albert waiting for him, then the part with the horses and the Australian animals...I've tried finding that music but I don't know where it is!! Does anyone else?

  • The music I think you are referring to occurs elsewhere in the film as well. It's called "Ascent Theme" by Bruce Smeaton and is an arpeggiated piano piece in 17:8. Unfortunately it was never committed to a soundtrack release. I've seen a copy of the sheet music on the net somewhere, but that's as close to it as we can get.

  • Agree whole heartedly clawpuss! :)

  • Picnic at Hanging Rock is very haunting, and leaves a lot more to our own imagination way after the movie has been watched. Thanks for commenting. :)

  • This music scares me and attracts me at the same time....It's strange and beautiful...

  • Yes.. so uniquely beautiful, it is like it is from another world. Appreciate your comment, thank you! :)

  • I love this movie and this music...Thank you for this video!!! :) :) :)

  • Both wonderful and mysterious music. Thanks for positing.

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! :)

  • was the book based on true events

  • Personally I believe there is a hint of truth however minute, skillfully woven through this fictional story. Debatable subject.

  • Somewhere43, Joan Lindsay had a Puckish sense of mischief and loved leading people up the garden path. Not all of the original manuscript ended up in the book, but sufficient clues still remain. Do you want to know the solution?

  • Hi,maybe Lindsay knew some people similar to the characters;went to a school similar to the one in the book, school picnics etc.Was told by my Grandma three children had been found dead near the rock, she had seen old newspaper clippings.Didn't think the book was true, just miniscule facts woven in.Part omitted about turning into lizards etc is a bit much, but anyway the book was fiction.

  • somewhere, sorry about late reply- I've been overseas. The part about the lizards is new to me. Could you elaborate?

  • Copied-The girls experience incomprehensible phenomena.Driven giddy by a supernatural suggestion of the monolith they throw their corsets over the cliff. But the corsets never fall to the bottom and instead hang in space in an impossible fashionThe girls and Miss McCraw notice a mystical"hole in space"Marion,Miranda and Miss McCraw transform into lizard-like creatures and crawl into a hole in the rock, which another boulder then covers, leaving Irma alone and clawing at the fallen rock-lost chapter

  • Where is this from? It's nightmarish.

  • From another YouTube video "Picnic at Hanging Rock INTERVIEW Anne Louise Lambert" Donicababe comment(2 weeks ago)This is from the lost chapter "The Secret of Hanging Rock" and Wikipedia.

  • I' ve read the so-called lost chapter, but don't remember that stuff. Thanks.

  • A couple of points about the "missing" Chapter that I have always found intriguing. Firstly, it was released 17 years after Joan Lindsay's death. An embargo for that long seems unprecedented. Secondly, it's internal style and imagery is completely at odds with the rest of the novel. For me its authorship seems in doubt. There is also the matter of the book being first published by Penguin, but the "missing" chapter was eventually published by Angus & Robertson - which is no longer a publisher.

  • ethel, my sentiments exactly! The tone and imagery was completely different. It was a huge disappointment , as well as being just plain silly. I suspect a literary hoax.

The clues' to the girls' fate are scattered throughout the novel. As usual, the most likely explanation is probably the correct one.

  • I need to correct something I've written. The 18th chapter was published after Joan Lindsay's death in 1984 - 17 years after Picnic was written. Needless to say, she wasn't around to answer any questions about it.

  • freacis- no, it's been done over with a toothcomb, and is entirely fictional.

  • I am glad that you like it, thank you leshtey :)

  • Thank you magisterdixit91 for your compliment and I enjoyed very much listening to Glenn Gould's sublime music.. :)

  • Thank you, really appreciated your comment and favouriting 247Bear

Click on (more info), I have collected some links etc about the music which will hopefully help. :))

  • I meant that she hasn't gone on to far great things as the other actresses. I remember an interview where she voulenteers (sorry spelling) at a church.

  • More interesting is what happened to the actress who played the Headmistress. She died falling through a glass door. Given that a girl dies falling through a conservatory in the film, I thought that was quite unheimlich.

  • Hi,yes uncanny..Looked up the actress Rachel Roberts too."Actual suicide was a result of swallowing lye, alkali,or another unidentified caustic substance on top of the barbiturates which were ingested as proven in her published journals. The acidic effect of the poisonous agent was an immediate cause of death which propelled her body through a decorative glass screen. She was found by her Mexican gardener cut to ribbons in a negligee on her kitchen floor amongst the shards of glass on Nov 26,1980.

  • Wow! Somewhere43, I hadn't known that! I knew the poor thing had an alcohol problem ( as she did in the film) but I hadn't known about her falling through glass. RIP Rachel Roberts, and other since deceased actors in this film.

  • The "making of hanging rock" is now online (YT). Edith is interviewed, just like some others.

  • I saw a pic of the girl who played Edith well she is a woman now and she is still overweight lol. Hasn't done much with her life but has a son.

  • Cracking film.

  • you should have gone to Mt Augustus (Buringurra) then, which is the real biggest rock in the world, in Western Australia.

  • Thanks oddjobbob35 :))

  • Mel Gibson, Hugh Jackman or Nicole Kidman would have been better.. lol ;)

  • Great job how did you get the music :) I guess it's your secret hee hee.

    Five stars.

  • Hi, bought and downloaded the music off the program called itunes, then added it to pictures with windows movie maker.. click on more infomation if you like at top right corner. Thank you for commenting and favouriting. :)

  • Caduta, discesa...abbandono

Se la mente muore, il corpo la segue.

Un film che si presta a poche chiavi di lettura

  • I couldn't agree with you more engel27, the music certainly compliments the mysterious atmosphere of the movie like no other melody would. Thank you for your comment. :)

  • Omigosh!! I remember watching the movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" on a Saturday night-it was part of those suspense/mystery film reruns. It was spooky and I did not understand it. Beautiful music. Thank you for posting this! I'll have to look the movie up-I remember it confused me and I didn't get the ending.

  • This particular Australian movie is very special and unique, just with the scenery and music combined. The story does kind of leave you up in the air wondering what really did happen there that day? Maybe this is part of the reason why the movie stays embedded long after in your mind once you have seen it. Thank you audie83 for commenting on my video. :))

  • And thank you again for posting it! I was just searching for Romanian pan music (which I heard watching Romanian gymnasts perform to pan music on floor exercise) and here I am! This brought back so many childhood memories! And it's been years-and I still am unsure about those girls that went into the cave! Very eerie movie-love it. :)

  • Beautiful pan pipe music - haunting!! And some lovely images!! 5 stars!! Sunbeam xoxo

  • The music is very beautiful, thank you Sunbeam, I appreciate your thoughts. xoxo :)

  • You mean Gheorghe Zamfir? No sorry this recording is off Jorge Rico's album Picnic at Hanging Rock,Pan Pipe Melodies,1998,easy listening - iTunes

    Thanks radiovarsavia :)

  • well I have to tell you all the true is the soundtrack from this film was plaiyn' by Gh.Zamfir (if you see the film you will see the title too) and yes it's tru the song title are Sus pe culmea Dealului and Doina lui Petru Unc, it's a sad but also a deep calm relaxing part too.... if you see the clip where are the title you will see the song player too, Wish you all the Best !!

  • Hi, I have added some information if you want to read what I found. The only recording I could find a year ago when I purchased this for my daughter, who dances, was this one by Jorge Rico off the iTunes music program that was produced in 2001.

    Kind Regards..

    somewhereintime43
