Many good points, but Rushkoff isn't quite right about the "fundamental" use of technology being connection across distances. In fact, most people use technology to connect with people they see regularly. As Stefana Broadbent has argued, it extends intimacy that was interrupted by the modern practice of separating family and community life from work, education, and worship. For churches, the question is not whether to use technology or not, but how to use it to enhance spiritual intimacy.
