ugh...the falls and slips happen because either the rider is leaning too far in and throwing the horse off or the ground is too wet.. most of them where the riders where leaning too far and throwing the horse off
@jumpthatjanx its hard to just "let go" when you are falling you body tells you to hang on so you do.. have you ever rode a horse before and fell off? i have plenty and have pulled my mare on top of me cuz its hard to let go..
@laurashorse When I was 4 years old I was riding a shetland pony for my mom (wearing a helmet) and got buck off and landed on my head and put a gash 6 inches long and had to get staples.
I ride westerna nd I gotta say, my biggest fear is falling off and getting my foot stuck and being dragged. I've had many bad falls but that is my biggest fear...

My specialty seem to be to get calls to falls off something or other with head injuries: that included off motorcycles, bicylces, skateboards, &, yes, HORSES. I saw enough people walk away without a scratch on their heads, but busted up helmets - & literally have held dying no-helmet people's brains in my hands while their brains ooozed all over my gloved fingers as I was trying to save them.
@FluffyUnicorns7 ....and might I mention I'd heard from many a physician at an ER tell barely bruised up people with proper ASTM helmets for their sport say "this helmt save your life"; & also heard them say, of those who were dead or totatlly brain-damaged that "this wouldn't have happened if he was wearing a helmet.....

And whenever I see a friend of mine, a man who rode his whole life until the day his well trained horse unexpectedly ditched him because of a spring gust of wind, try to just walk across a room because the brain damaged he sustained w/o a helmet, it reminds me to always wear mine....
@FluffyUnicorns7 I would watch what you say and think carefully. Helmets protect you if worn properly. They protect from concussions which are serious head traumas and can prevent your neck from snapping as the back of the helmet helps support your neck. Read up on your facts before commenting... It is a personal choice for most shows but the Olympics now requires it worn when warming up. The Olympics would not require something that does not work now would they?

@FluffyUnicorns7 Well no crap. A cheapy poorly adjusted helmet is not going to help. All the helmets I've ever owned have had one snap and it's near the ear. I've never actually seen a helmet with one near the chin, was it a bike helmet? Just because your helmet did not help you doesn't mean that other peoples cant and wont help them.
She got her face slit open from the horn. She had a bunch of stiches and they sew it all back on. To this day she doesnt barrel race anymore. She only rides western.

Thats just how it is, a cowgirls sport, we are just the only ones brave enough to inherit the way it always has been done, btw our "stupid hats" look way better than your ugly helmets. yeah the reason it fell and flipped on her is because she tightened her reins and she wasnt properly taking care of the horse. If you barrel race you should always have your horses teeth floated no exceptions.. the horse was in pain and wanted the pressure off the bit and when she tightened the horse had no choice but to flip on her.. so it was the riders fault.
if anyone saw that show untamed and uncut there is one people that got hurt in one of the smallvideo it was a black horse and the horse fell right on top of her the person still survived.
Well' I'll tell you that I hav been riding barrel horses since I was 8 months old and barrel racing since I was about 1 year. You learn alot from the falls and spil you take. Everytime.
LOL barrel racing accidents are the best to watch. I had a horse fall on me and shatter my leg,but i got back on and finished my ride...Gotta be tough to do that sport!
I think it's weird that the people in charge of these shows and events aren't making the competitors wear helmets. It's just as dangerous as any other horse sport.

I love this video, it is awesome. Reminds me of accidents i have had in the past! But I can laugh about them now. But just last yr March my sons horse decided lets see what happens if i rear up then buck and rear up again. Well the first rear she was up then right back down then a quick buck then she reared back up that is when her back legs slid in the soft sand and she sit back on me, and snapped my humerus in my arm. Operated on it April of this yr. I'm ready to get back in the saddle tho :-)
At 1:06 I had a horse do that with me just cantering around the arena...I don't think he was upside down that long though xD He just couldn't get up because of the saddle horn. You should finish this!!! (:

@MegaHorsesForever this is so true even tho u get hurt i still get back up and ride i have gotten some of the stuff in the video done to me before and i have the scars to prove it i have been barrelracing for 10 years and i have alot of scars to prove that ive gotten hurt before but i still get back up and i still ride to this day
