Hey guys I have an rx7 and i just got it I heard rotories mess up quick so I think Ima swap an ls1. But my question is, will the car lose value if I do? Pleaase give me feedback thanks
nice car with a gay fucking engine, fuck that shit, rotor all the way,the only way you guys bad talk rotors its because you guys cant build it and tune it right, fuck that shit rotor all the way, shame on you guys.
@pinkpanthercow why is an ls1 a gay engine, its a very proven platform that makes amazing power. you dont see ppl swapping rotary engines into other cars. im pretty sure just about damn near any car has had a SBC put into it.
you should burn down that fucking car, rotor all the wat,if you guys dont know about the rotary engine dont own a rx7,thats all it fail bad, fucking gay loosers
i hate to see a nice car like a rx7 with a piston engine, and you should be shame to say you work on rotries and with pineapple racing, you just fucked up another rx7,burn it to fuck down, gay faggot,
@kenho3j0k3r relaibility you say,i can see you dont know one fuck about rotary,if you guys dont know how to TUNE the rotary, say so,and leave it for real men.damm
@pinkpanthercow LMAO riiiiight, funny thing is I see LS1's in almost every rear wheel drive platform on earth but I have yet to see a corvette, camaro, firebird, mustang, etc., with a rotary motor in them. Hmm, I wonder why that is?
@skeckevo you just scared of what you know you cant beat. ive build both piston and rotors motors and ill pick an LS series any day hands down. if you really wanta be pissed look up Nelson Racing twin turbo 427 sbc RX-7. lol
Some people say it's not an RX-7 anymore... lets see what the VIN has to say. I'm just saying. You guys need to think outside of the box... LSx, 2JZ, RB26... doesn't matter... they'd all work.
Nasty. I'd be doing a disservice to RPM Motorsports and Corksport by dropping an LS1 into a Mazda, but that is the nicest swap these cars can get until someone figures out how to load the new 5.0L or ecoboost 3.5 into it.
@NerdyBoyFresh haha, an LS3 can make over 500whp with a cam, and a set of headers. thats a $4000 engine. can you build a normally aspirated rotary for $4000, and make anything close to that power? im not even talking torque, reliability, and fuel econo, the LS wins in all those categories too.
@impreziv nope, I didn't intend to say Heads, i meant Exhaust Headers. go check out LS1-Tech, or any corvette forums, and you will find a bunch of LS3 C6 vette guys making over 500whp with just Headers and a Cam.
Awesome ! I did the same swap to my 93 fd . It's the best thing ,more torque and better gas mileage . Simple bolt ons and chipped she's at 480hp . Now my friend wants to do the same to his 94 . He has a 13b tt street port single turbo and about 5 grand into his and I smoke him every time.
@ganst1 I just like to see a rotary left where it came from. i like v8s, for many reasons, i just hate to see them take the place of a rotary car. that v8 would be sweet in like a rwd converted integra or something u dont normally see. too many v8 rx7 swaps
@mageac yeah i know. its because alot of people dont know how to maintain a rotor, they blow them and take the cheap alternative and put a v8 in. which is all well and good, people can do whatever the hell they want, however, its not what i would personally do, because all that extra weight is gonna make that car handle like a brick. if you wanna rid the rx7 of a rotor, a 2jz or s50/52 swap will maintain great power, without affecting driveabillity.
@bosgreene36m3 ... they actally gain about 100 pounds, and actually make the weight balance of car better... the weight of an ls1 is not much more then a turbo 13b
as for relibility and not knowing how to to maintance... ive seen chevy v8s with 300k miles on them... with literally oil changes about every 50-75k...
also being cheap is a good thing... why spend more money for the sake of spending money :S
i think rotaries are a very reliable engine as long as you dont beatthe living piss out of it i had a 12 a that ran likethe day i came off the production line and i must sayi ran that thing for a week on a 1/4 tank of gas also great gas milage
@aji8 you really do plague EVERY rx7 vidoe do you not have anything better to do? And no I am not a hardcore rotorhead as I have a LS2 FC and I love it but I also have a bridged 83 FB which is alos a fun ride. and as far as reliability the rotary is a great motor research the le mans 787b after race review. The internals on the the motor were still in such good shape is could have easily gone another 24 hrs. Turbo rotarys are the ones that have iffy durability NA's are very reliable
This guy aji8 just goes around and disses on all RX7 videos. He is actually retarded and does not know anything about rotary engines so, don't listen to him.
Wow guys, I havent checked this video in months. I did this swap for a friend of mine. It was done in 3 days, ready to drive across country. I have built cars with 475hp+ single turbo 13b engines, 20b single turbo, and am working with Pineapple racing to build a 4 rotor. I love rotaries, but the piston does hold a place under the hood of these cars. The first FD every put on the track by Mazda had a HONDA engine. FD3S Engineering owner Marc H
No way, can't go for that sorry response i grew up in philly seen many different swaps going back to the early 80s the street raceing scene was big but rarely did the rotory get disrespected like this, btw 9 times out of 10 the rotory won, against everything. Thanx for letting me know where you work so i can order from mazdatrix and racingbeat......BTW this friend of yours went to a v8 setup when you build 475hp+13b's, 20b's lol what that says about you and your build quality.
You come of as an arrogant douchebag, sir. I enjoyed the LS1 in my RX7. Why? Because it was strong and reliable. It also was capable of making more horsepower reliably and lasting longer. It seemed to go with the car perfectly for anything from autocross, to driving to work and back and still get over 20mpg. You're '80s' racing scene no longer applies in...2009.
An LS engine in and FD makes sense, you are absolutely right. But the R in RX7 does stand for rotary, I would never consider swapping out the wankel for a pistonengine, it just removes too much of the car;s charm IMHO.
Since you gave me some respect (SIR). I WILL KEEP THIS VERBAL BEAT DOWN SHORT. YOU DONT BUY A RX7 FOR THE MPG'S,TORQUE,A ROTORY IS JUST AS RELIABLE AS ANY OTHER MINE SHOWS 150,987 ON THE ODOM, AND I BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF IT, I AM ON THE BUZZER EVERY GEAR EVERY MORNING. 1984 GSL-SE. SINCE YOUR ONLY 23 IT WOULD BE POINTLESS TALKING 80'S SHIT.
the r in rx7 stands for rotary ( rotary X 7 ) otherwhys mazda would named it the mazda vx7 , you don't get a car and make it into a pickuptruck in the same way you don't rotary car and make it into a v8
do you hate mazda or something ? , and how come you have to act like a ass hole aji8 ?, why you cant hate rotary engines but respect the people that do like rotary ? , i admit rotary engines are not perfect , it makes little amounts of torque and if a sratch gets in the engine it will burn more oil then gas but it makes a lot of horse power for the size is and rotary engine cars great power to wate ratio , btw... do you know a 1.3 liter makeing more horse power then a rotary engine ? you don't !
nice what year is it ?, i own a 1993 mazda 626 ( serch it up ) so i don't have a rx7 , the only reson mazda make rotary is because it's the only family hairitige they have , mazda is coming out with a new rx7 and a new rotary engine ( 1.3 to a 1.8 ) the new engine is going to make much more torque and is going to be more reliable , hey do you have a vid on your rx7?
nicely put, i pulled teh 13b out of my vert ( 1988) cost of good overhaul exceeded cost of conversion, so ill build a NICE 13b while i drive the transplant
will do. i do have a walkaround vid in my list, will pm you when time comes for transplant/firing. now i figure ive hijacked the guys thread enough so ill stop
the rotary is a very imperfect motor but it does have its advantages. if i had the money, i think i would do the swap as well just for reliability purposes. there are no rules to swapping engines in cars.
i can see what you mean but i just rather stick with rotary engines , by the way do you know why some body gave me thumbs down all im doing is agreeing with sageninja123
could anyone PLEASE tell me... ok so once you have the complete engine and transmission, how much is it to make the swap ??? like to actual put the engine AND transmission into the rx7... really dont know bout this things. anything else you need besides the engine and trannny?
@sageninja123 not everyone buys cars based on brochures, magazine reviews, or brand loyalty. some people think outside the box, and build cars, the way they want them. i don't share your mentality that I have to buy a "Mustang or something" to get a V8. i am an engineer at heart, and I will never own a car the way it was assembled from the factory.
@mageac taking a rotary engine out of an RX-7 is dumb, the RX-7 is unique for the rotary engine, putting a V8 in a RX-7 is not considered a RX-7 any more, thats like you having your dick removed and you really wouldn't be considered much of a man anymore..
@sageninja123 though the first part of our sentence may be true, I think if someone wants the style and light body of an RX-7 with the power of a beast they should be able to make that choice. But try and stick a rotary engine into a muscle car....it's just not the same. not only is this true craftsmanship on the part of the mechanic who performed the swap, but it's also the more sensible thing to do.
dude seriously, are you gonna go around and talk shit in EVERY video with a rotary engine? we get it, you hate rotary engines now shut the fuck up and go suck a dick...
A bone-stock LS1 makes 290rwhp give or take. My streetport with '99 spec turbos and full 3" exhaust made 326rwhp @ 15psi.
Now just imagine that LS1 with Heads and a Cam and it'l be north of 400rwhp. Throw nitrous ontopif you're running across a turbo 20b, or just turbo the Ls1.
Whatever the rotary can do, the LSX motors can do as well if not better(outside of revving to forever).
well ive seen cars on the drag strip with worked Ls1's and with worked 13b and 20b engines and i can tell you now more rotary engines hit into the 8 second zone then ls1's do and then theres the time attack cars, the 13b rx7's simply have sharper handling then the front heavy ls1 engined rx7's (though not seen often on track),with the lesser power 13b rx7 always lapping a faster time then the ls1 with hot cams due to its better balance when handling,i simply think rx7 work s better with the 13b
Where's your proof? There are PLENTY of LSX powered cars running 8's. Hell Hinson has a Twin turbo LSX FD running 8's for crying outloud.
You're full of shit if you think a 13b-rew with less power in an FD is going to have a faster time attack drivers being equal. The Ls1 only adds 40-60 lbs upfront which can easily be offset by moving the battery to the trunk. The LS1 does not make the FD nose-heavy. The LS1 has a far better power-band than a 13b.
really now?so your saying the guys who went through all that developement who even decided against the 20b engine so they can put the smaller 13b engine, the guys at mazda who took driving courses and spent many weeks learning about centre of gravity and the importance of balance, the guys who developed one of the most balanced well handling cars of all time were completely off base with choosing a smaller engine?!? you know what go fuck yourself, ill stick with my rotary engines here in Australia
The LS1 didn't even come out until 1997 in America. The FD came out in 1992. RX cars have always gone the way of the rotary. It's as traditional as Corvette has been with a FR V8 powered car. You think they'd break tradition? Not to mention japanese car owners, want higher revs. Look at the RX7, the S2000, etc. How many V8 powered Japanese cars have you seen from the factory? None. It's just not what they're into. They prefer smaller engines and forced induction.
If you do it yourself you can do it for 8-10k including engine. If you pay Hinson to do it, you're looking at 10k+ the cost of the engine/tranny.
Very easy though to make 500+ hp out of these engines and it doesn't require too much more over the cost of the swap to get there. Heads, Cam, Intake Manifold, Headers, can all be done while the motor's out and not change your swap's complexity at all.
Hey guys I have an rx7 and i just got it I heard rotories mess up quick so I think Ima swap an ls1. But my question is, will the car lose value if I do? Pleaase give me feedback thanks

the rotary is a very imperfect motor but it does have its advantages. if i had the money, i think i would do the swap as well just for reliability purposes. there are no rules to swapping engines in cars.
vkotis 2 years ago 28
i can see what you mean but i just rather stick with rotary engines , by the way do you know why some body gave me thumbs down all im doing is agreeing with sageninja123
villemadison1 2 years ago
Yeah here are the advantages!
There they were. Did you see them?
The rotary is junk, get a clue rotard.

why would you put a v8 in a rotary car? the v8 just kills everything unique about the rx-7.
sageninja123 2 years ago 2
How does it not make the rx7 even more unique with a v8?
v0locity 2 years ago
if i wanted a v8 i would buy a mustang or something but an rx-7 should just stay with an rotary engine b.c that what makes an rx-7 right?
sageninja123 2 years ago 18
You are a rotary retard. Get a clue
aji8 2 years ago
@sageninja123 not everyone buys cars based on brochures, magazine reviews, or brand loyalty. some people think outside the box, and build cars, the way they want them. i don't share your mentality that I have to buy a "Mustang or something" to get a V8. i am an engineer at heart, and I will never own a car the way it was assembled from the factory.
impreziv 1 year ago 2
@sageninja123 ill bet you would go apeshit on a video with a rotary in a mustang...
mageac 11 months ago
@mageac taking a rotary engine out of an RX-7 is dumb, the RX-7 is unique for the rotary engine, putting a V8 in a RX-7 is not considered a RX-7 any more, thats like you having your dick removed and you really wouldn't be considered much of a man anymore..
sageninja123 11 months ago
@sageninja123 though the first part of our sentence may be true, I think if someone wants the style and light body of an RX-7 with the power of a beast they should be able to make that choice. But try and stick a rotary engine into a muscle car....it's just not the same. not only is this true craftsmanship on the part of the mechanic who performed the swap, but it's also the more sensible thing to do.
itubeit09 8 months ago
So he can make the car better. The FD is a great car but the engine is really lacking. The aluminum V8 solves that! Rotary is garbage.
aji8 2 years ago
your garbage
sageninja123 2 years ago 3
LOL..is that the best you can do rotard?
aji8 2 years ago
dude seriously, are you gonna go around and talk shit in EVERY video with a rotary engine? we get it, you hate rotary engines now shut the fuck up and go suck a dick...
Laborchet 2 years ago
Well at least this Rx7 was saved. Hopefully this trend continues as more rotaries leave their owners stranded.

ls1 is a v8.

the car sound like crap

sounds brutal
i like both sounds from a turbo rotory and an ls1
abominabletreachery 2 years ago
not that i dont like ls1 engines, its just that its in a car thats meant to be power by a rotary, so ... BAH!
Sefveron 3 years ago
I think he could care less when the only view of the car he is racing is in his rear view mirror!
superjump01 2 years ago
i assure you, youll need more then a damn pod filter to beat a properly tuned rotary!
Sefveron 2 years ago
A bone-stock LS1 makes 290rwhp give or take. My streetport with '99 spec turbos and full 3" exhaust made 326rwhp @ 15psi.
Now just imagine that LS1 with Heads and a Cam and it'l be north of 400rwhp. Throw nitrous ontopif you're running across a turbo 20b, or just turbo the Ls1.
Whatever the rotary can do, the LSX motors can do as well if not better(outside of revving to forever).
JustinStrife 2 years ago
well ive seen cars on the drag strip with worked Ls1's and with worked 13b and 20b engines and i can tell you now more rotary engines hit into the 8 second zone then ls1's do and then theres the time attack cars, the 13b rx7's simply have sharper handling then the front heavy ls1 engined rx7's (though not seen often on track),with the lesser power 13b rx7 always lapping a faster time then the ls1 with hot cams due to its better balance when handling,i simply think rx7 work s better with the 13b
Sefveron 2 years ago
Where's your proof? There are PLENTY of LSX powered cars running 8's. Hell Hinson has a Twin turbo LSX FD running 8's for crying outloud.
You're full of shit if you think a 13b-rew with less power in an FD is going to have a faster time attack drivers being equal. The Ls1 only adds 40-60 lbs upfront which can easily be offset by moving the battery to the trunk. The LS1 does not make the FD nose-heavy. The LS1 has a far better power-band than a 13b.
JustinStrife 2 years ago
really now?so your saying the guys who went through all that developement who even decided against the 20b engine so they can put the smaller 13b engine, the guys at mazda who took driving courses and spent many weeks learning about centre of gravity and the importance of balance, the guys who developed one of the most balanced well handling cars of all time were completely off base with choosing a smaller engine?!? you know what go fuck yourself, ill stick with my rotary engines here in Australia
Sefveron 2 years ago
The LS1 didn't even come out until 1997 in America. The FD came out in 1992. RX cars have always gone the way of the rotary. It's as traditional as Corvette has been with a FR V8 powered car. You think they'd break tradition? Not to mention japanese car owners, want higher revs. Look at the RX7, the S2000, etc. How many V8 powered Japanese cars have you seen from the factory? None. It's just not what they're into. They prefer smaller engines and forced induction.
JustinStrife 2 years ago
actually the infiniti m45 and a shit load of lexus's came stock v8 from the factory.
nubian2324 2 years ago
well there is the high revving 3.5L twin turbo V8 from nissan

wow thats alot but so worth it tho.
thanks,nice car
yogurx 3 years ago
nice car.
how much for an engine swap like that?
yogurx 3 years ago
If you do it yourself you can do it for 8-10k including engine. If you pay Hinson to do it, you're looking at 10k+ the cost of the engine/tranny.
Very easy though to make 500+ hp out of these engines and it doesn't require too much more over the cost of the swap to get there. Heads, Cam, Intake Manifold, Headers, can all be done while the motor's out and not change your swap's complexity at all.
