Scandinavia is not strictly an ethnic and linguistic concept. It is also an historic, cultural and geographical concept. By those criteria, Finland IS part of Scandinavia.

I'm just having a hard time accepting our language barrier with Finland. I understand both spoken and written norwegian and swedish but a word of Finnish i cannot understand. It is a whole other language tribe, not related to european language at all but to some mongolian language tribe in a land far far away :P. Very odd. . .

What the f*** dude. . Denmark is as much a part of scandinavia as norway and sweden. We are the crown juwel of scandinavian history raiding throughout europe for thousands of years taking on the super powers of that time!

Denmark has never been close to Swedens Era as Great Power in Europe and our achivements there. We attacked Armies Denmark attacked Peasents if ur reffering to Denmarks invasion of England.

Finland is an old Russian province, but the three kingdoms have had a close connection with each other, long before Finlands existence...

Finland was a part of Sweden for nearly 700 hundred years and a part of Russia for about 100 years, and during the Russian ages Finland was rather an autonomic state than a province. Thus it is very strange to claim that Finland hasn't ever had close connections to "the three kingdoms", especially to Sweden :) Finland isn't basically part of Scandinavia, well maybe a part of Scandinavian Peninsula from the northwest. But Finland shares almost the same history, culture and heritage, doesn't she?

And finns only share the same History with Sweden from the Swedish Conquest of Finland in the early medieval age to the Russian invasion 1809. After and before that Finland didnt have much connection with the Scandinavians.

Yeah I'm well aware of our history, thank you.

I actually meant that during our common history our blood has perhaps mixed piecemeal because of the Swedish invasions in Finland or on the contrary the skogsfinnar in Sweden. But of course nothing is absolute. I myself have some Swedish blood due to my moms ancestry, and I live in southeast Finland. But yeah heritage is perhaps a wrong definition.

Jag har hört (kan inte bekräfta) att namnet RYSSLAND härstammar ifrån "Ruotsi" som betyder Sverige på Finländska! Kort sagt skulle RYSSLAND betyda "SVENSKLAND" sedan långt tillbaka! Känn på den! Tyvärr kan jag inte bekräfta sanningen i det hela men så jävla långsökt verkar det faktiskt inte vara! Att "Ruotsi" betyder Sverige på finska är däremot sant! Finskan tillhör släktet Uraliska språk där bla Estniska och Ungerska ingår.
