By trapping the propane within the ice, the propane is released as the ice burns.
Burning the ice is only something cool you can do with the clathrate. One of the main benefits of trapping gas in clathrates is the fact that the solid takes up less space than the gas itself. So, you can ship more gas in a small container.
there's tons of methane ice at the bottom or the arctic oceans but environmentalist don't like people mining the ice because it releases some kind of butane gas in the water which could raise water temp. and cause "global warming". Overall it's currently cheaper and faster using fossil fuels
in certain oceans and seas methane is trapped under high pressure along with many other gases. Albeit, in truth, its probably not trapped within any ice or lattice. This is because nearly all types of ice float. The understanding behind partially desolved gasses under high pressure in fluids is something best described by the density of cold carbondioxide vapour in air. Take dryice and put it in a bowl. Thats the best example of what it would look like (if methane gas was white).

They also did something on mythbusters where they pumped methane into water and it rose in a column and then they burned it.

Wish I would meet more girls knowing such facts -.-
They thought, that was the cause for dissapearing planes and boats within bermuda triangle...

@reidksmith so dat means if a water is full of propane and we freeze it.will it become just like this?
