Actually (and.. ironically..though Shadow didn't mean it that way..he was putting down hip hop in general) Hip Hop started to suck in '96. That was the year that rappers really started using sappy studio pop productions. It's also the year that rappers started getting into that "four bar" style garbage (rhyming four bars the same way-which is monotonous-instead of rhyming the traditional two).
