  • I used to see this show , well i saw it the last year ! in animax channel! i want to see it again, but it's not in television anymore :/

  • I used to love this show...was sad to see it get cancelled. :(

  • I used to love this show but didn't know that the 2nd season had begun at that time so I only saw the first. I've had this song in my head several times, though. It's so good!

I watch Glee and I just realised that THIS is where I've seen Vanessa Lengies before! It's quite a coincidence that I just looked up this song and found out.

  • I used to really like this show on Sunday evenings.

  • Emerson Hart - Generation

  • what is the name of this song????

  • My cousin Tom Verica starred in this. Hard to believe this show was cancelled after three seasons at or near the number one slot.

  • Does anybody know where is the clip with the two flowers kissing from??It's so cute!

  • @blackwerx all my news comes from the internet, with some exceptions. other than deadliest catch, american chopper, NCIS, modern family and a few other scripted shows - tv is mostly used for movies that ive purchased, but even movies are getting worse

  • @blackwerx i think we need to stop putting attention to those people. a lot of people don't like them, but still watch the show "cause there's nothing else on" or they "just want to make fun of them" but if you're watching the show, that's adding to the ratings... turn the tv off! eventually the message will become clear to the ones in charge

  • This show was great.

  • Why would anyone want to cancel this show?!!!!!! Ugh irritates me that it ended so stupidly too. Left us all hanging.

  • Actually I heard that the reason why they didn't put season 2 and 3 out on DVD is cause they had to get copyright for all the songs they show on the episodes and it would taken too much effort to do that. So that is what I heard if it helps. But anyways I love this show and just started watching it a couple of weeks ago on DVD. This is a really good show and I'm sad they canceled it. :'(

  • Well, I am now baffled at the reason this show was cancelled. I always though it was because of low ratings. But i just looked the ratings up and it had about the same ratings as 'The Office' which is supposedly a 'huge hit'. So what gives NBC?! WHY did you really cancel this show?

  • @scooned yeah i agree why was american dreams and knight rider cancelled? hope they dont cancell the cape

  • @princeofdarknessxyz1 they canceled the cape! wth is going on with TV these days?

  • @mickeykelly89 yup it sucks...and now i found out that hellcats and the other cw show i like is cancelled

  • Oh my God, this song brings back awesome memories! I remember trying to squeak in eating dinner, finishing homework, and taking a shower before eight o'clock so I could watch American Dreams. I really hope they release all three seasons to DVD sometime soon!

  • This was a good show and what a great cast who have gone forward with their careers such as:

Will Estes now in Blue Bloods (brother of Rob Estes from Melrose Place)

Brittany Murphy now on Harry's Law ( was in the movie Hairspray)

Gail O'Grady now in Hellcats (was also on NYPD Blues)

  • @YOUrmypal68 Don't forget Sarah Ramos on Parenthood.

  • i remeber when i was little and my parents would D.E.A.W.A.D (drop everything and watch american dreams)

  • 0:01 tht peace sign is wrong

  • I am only 21 years old so I could not relate to this show that much but it was definitely one of my favorites and was very disappointed when it was canceled!

  • Ah the NBC Cancellation Legacy! first, Star Trek, Then American Dreams...and most recently, Conan.

Keep up the good work guys....NOT!

  • I don't understand why the creators have not put Season 2 and Season 3 on DVD. It made my Sundays so worthwhile, and it was a great, wholesome show! I'm an 80's kid, but fascinated by 60's & 70's culture....so this was perfect. I'm glad I have the entire first season on DVD!

  • @Bridgett30 Me too!!

  • @Bridgett30 I'm a 90s kid, what did u like most about growing up in the 80s

  • @Bridgett30 me too!!

  • You're comin' up like a flower You're comin' up through the cracks That live 'round here Everybody knows we have no fear This is my generation 'Cause we just want to dance all night Live inside the spark of life This might be the only time around We wanna know the face of freedom We wanna make a place where we can learn to love Build a world that we can be proud of This is my generation
  • TV Shows don't have good opening themes anymore. Heck, they barely have opening themes at all! I prefer something like this over a 5 second title sequence!

  • hey anyone knows what´s the name of the song?

  • @crisgarver Emerson Hart- My Generation

  • I was thoroughly digusted by NBC's decision to cancel this show, yet pander to the idiot viewers by keeping "Joey" on the air; which, by the way, was canceled the next season.

  • Seriously, this show should have not been canceled after 3 seasons. It was one of the best of the 2000s.

  • I was obSESSED with this show- made my father leave church early so I could get hoem and watch it *guilt*. But I paid $90 something for the first season on DVD when it came out.

I'd give anything for the last two seasons.

  • MY FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME AND IM 42 . THE WALTONS RUN A CLOSE 2ND.

  • @gopconservative78 ....SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!! u dont no dick u fucking jackoff

  • @rockythehero typical baby boomer jackass......peace and love....blow me bitch

  • I LOVE THE THEME SONG. I WISH THAT SOMEBODY COULD MAKE AN EXTENDED VERSION OF IT.

  • yes there exist one

    Emerson Hart ~ Generation"

    (:

  • I agree it truely was an excellent show that showed the 60's exactly as it was- not the glorification that many people think it was. As a child of the 60's I remember quite well what went on with Vietnam, the assinations of Kennedy and King, the racial tension etc.. It was a real shame that it only went on for three season and in it's place?! A TON OF STUPID REALITY SHOWS!!!!!!!! Dick Clark and/or the producers should have found a major cable network to continue it on.

  • They should bring back American Bandstand (or something like it!)

  • i love american "dreams"!!

  • I LOVED this show! I so wish that it was still on the air!

  • I think I've heard of this, or mayne I didn't.

  • what a great show and song

  • It's the stupid tv land curse! Every show that wins the " future classic " award gets cancelled. This and now hereo's. I mow fear for my beloved glee!!!

  • The American dream or dreams is disappointing

  • I worked o AD..this makes me miss everyone on the show so much!!!!!!!!!

    Raul

  • What's the name sing?

  • Sarah Ramos, who played Patty in AD, is in the new show Parenthood.

  • Great Show!

  • I loved the show !!!! it was great !!!! =)

  • thanks for posting

this brings back a lot of good memories

  • WOW !!!!

This is my childhood memories ,this opening sequence captured it all ,especially the NBC peacock going from black and white then spreading its feather tail to color , i remember that so well .

This was a Great show, along with -The Wonder Years gives me a chance to remember life that (for myself) was just "simple and innocent".

    Thanks for posting .

  • does anybody know if there is unaired epise (after season 3 finale) ? and where can i get it?

  • Single handedly the worst move ever made by network ad wizards cancelling this show. It's one of the reason's madmen is so popular, people love to revisit this era. The now sucks.

  • yeah, jj came home from Vietnam. He had a limp, and had to use a cane. He became a Marine recruiter.

  • oh yea thats right

  • The greatest TV show of all time, and I've lived through the 50's and 60's.

  • @LesbianVampireLover Awesome dude how was the 50's ? :D

  • Type in "Leave it to Beaver" on youtube and you will see how it was in the 50s and early 60s...

  • I miss this show sooo much , it was cancelled way too soon.

  • well blame NBC because was the one who put it up against Extreme makeover Home Edition then on wednesday up against up lost. I used to watch the show with my parents then lost came on it caught my interst then American Dreams became a second thought

  • yeah, that's probably why I stopped watching it , I love lost.

  • @lissalizzard Agreed, I started watching this show when the 2nd season premiered in 2002 and got immediately hooked on it. The Pryors and the Walkers were the heart and soul of this show as well as American Bandstand....R.I.P 2002-2005, should've lasted longer.

  • @lissalizzard I loved it everyone else. NBC was just stupid, and obviously don't know what GOOD QUALITY TELEVISION IS..

  • @lissalizzard yeah i agree...one of my favorites...damn viewers...hope nbc brings it back...and knight rider

  • Does any one know were i can watch the full 3rd season because on netflix they only have the first one. Please help.

  • Does anyone know whon sing his song and whats the title?

  • It's Emerson Hart "My Generation"

  • O miss this show so much. It would be so good if NBC bring it back

  • Great show. I really miss it.

  • Man I miss this show.

  • Helen, Jack Meg JJ, Roxanne, Henry, Sam We Miss Ya!

  • The period of Camelot and the Kennedys and the modern age.

Color television had just come out and radio's had transistors in them and were the size of a highball glass and could fit on you book carrier.

Vietnam was about to break out and families would learn the tragedy of war and the loss of their son's.

My brother was one of the lucky one's to come home to us when so many didn't.

This show reminded me of the best and the worst of the 60's.

Still a great show and I miss it.

  • i loved that show and i loved that song

didn't the guy from tonic do this?

  • This was the period I was born in and the show always made me feel happy.

It reminded me of my family before we all got busy and never seem to see each other.

This was America at it's greatest and life was way simple then.

No cells and computers to keep us so busy we don't even have time to breathe.

This was my favorite show and my father would call me after the show was over and we would talk about how much it reminded us of that era.

Great show and the period colors and clothes were great

  • No Emerson Hart is the artist

  • Sorry yes he's from Tonic =)

  • Gail O'Grady is one of my favorites.

  • I LOVE TIS SHOW!

  • I liked watching this - too bad here in the UK Hallmark and now Trouble couldn't be bothered to show all three seasons! Here's hoping E4 comes to the rescue like they did with "Gilmore girls."

  • Love, love this song/show!! It makes me happy to watch it.

  • this is the best song ever and that was the best show ever i want it bak on the air

  • Why did they cancel this show?!?!!?!? I never got an answer to why. Next thing I knew, they weren't on tv anymore.

I guess it was too positive and clean to keep on the air because we need room for another trashy (un)reality show.

  • low ratings

i like this show and i agree with everything you said

  • hey guys what's up....lol I loved this show but I never got the name of this song??can someone tell me??

  • The song name is generation. Amazing song!!

  • OMG!!! I used to watch this faithfully!! This is one of the best shows ever!!

  • I used to watch this every sunday night at eight. this is one of my favorite shows EVER!!!! it was great and alot better than the crap they have on now.

  • i really loved this show. every sunday at 8.

  • I loved this show. The last great American drama.

  • oh I know! :( it's quite upsetting!

  • What a truly fantastic show! Im so glad I have all 3 seasons on DVD now!

  • where did you find seasons two and three?? i've only been able to find one

  • Hay buddy. Where you able to get the hole series. When you do I think you'll be surprised how many of the actors ended-up on "Heroes"!

  • I have all of season 2, and all of season 3. If you would like, I can burn them to DVD for you (as long as you pay for the blank DVDs and shipping).

Season 1 is available on DVD from NBC. Support the show and go buy it :)

  • Way ahead of you my friend! I bought got the hole thing over a year ago. The thing I like most about this show is that everything that happens is so realistic! No crazy plot twists or rediculous, "Seinfeld" style, nonsense! This show is still top notch.

  • Do you know were i can watch season 3 or rent it or could you burn it on youtube?

  • Bring Back AMERICAN DREAMS!! Avery good show that was very, very underrated.

  • u know i used to watch this show a few years back when i was little, i heard it finally here.

very exciting and emotional to listen to this song again.

  • what's the song?

  • Emerson Hart Generation

  • this was a great show sad that it's not on anymore great cast too

  • I know this is never going to happen, but NBC should consider rebroadcasting this show ... given the current political climate, the timing couldn't be better.

  • I loved this show so much! I got hooked on it from the first episode. I wish it would come back. I am so sick of all the "Reality" Shows. This show had substance and meaning and took you through history in a entertaining way. NBC made a bad decision letting go this one!

  • Well said. Apart from the early years of "American Bandstand," this was Dick Clark's best contribution to television.

I'd say even including "AB" it is Clark's best contribution to TV, except the series wouldn't have been conceived if Clark hadn't hosted & produced "AB" half a century earlier.

  • Clark's also contributed a lot of disposable fluff to TV ("Bloopers & Practical Jokes" & "The American Music Awards" head a long list). In fact, the "AMA," which was conceived as an alternative to the commercialism of the Grammy Awards, ended up also excluding real rock & roll & punk rock in favor of lightweight pop.

Artists such as Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Ramones never got recognition by either awards show until very late in their careers, if at all.

  • Of course, Clark also created & hosted a fun & unique game show, "The $10,000 (& $25K & $100K) Pyramid," was certainly very prolific in terms of his contributions to media (even tried his hand at acting in films and a brief stint on a soap opera).

  • But it is largely for "Bandstand" Clark will be remembered, perhaps also for his annual hosting of "A New Year's Rockin' Eve," there again conceived as an alternative to what had been a status quo TV broadcast, hosted for decades by Guy Lombardo (at the Waldorf Astoria) performing the definitive rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" for the Times Square ball drop.

  • "Bandstand" wasn't the most dynamic rock music showcase on TV. "Shindig!," which frequently had live acts and its own youthful cast of dancers & musicians, as well the British "Ready Steady Go!," which was a virtual fly on the wall of the British Invasion, involving the viewer as if a customer at a swingin' London nightclub, both had "AB" beat hands down.

  • Even "Where The Action Is," one of Clark's other properties (frequently hosted by Paul Revere & The Raiders), which aired weekday afternoons in the mid-'60's, was often more interesting, using outdoor locations and featuring sometimes obscure, American garage bands.

And, of course, the "Great Stone Face," Ed Sullivan, presented a more spectacular showcase for mostly-live rock & soul, sometimes even making history in the process.

  • But Clark's program, at least while originating from Philly, with its semi-regular cast of teen dancers & unique features such as "Rate-A-Record," was the first, regular showcase of rock talent (even if almost always lip-synced) broadcast nationwide.

  • That, plus the fact Clark kept the show going through three decades (and a payola scandal in radio, plus many changes in musical styles), earned him the title "America's oldest-living teenager," even though Clark clearly showed signs of aging after that first decade of the show.

But give Clark credit--he was inventive & stayed in the game long after others came & went.

  • "Dreams" wasn't Clark's first foray into TV drama (he had also produced an acclaimed biopic on Elvis in the late '70's starring Kurt Russell), but this show was very well-acted & written, drawing viewers in almost in the manner of how Martin Scorsese inhabits his environments, the TV studio scenes and music montages as well done as in the original "Hairspray" film. And the musical re-creations were pretty much spot on!

  • The cast, from Brittany Snow's "Meg Pryor," to mom Gail O'Grady, the "Pryor's" 'adopted' daughter "Roxanne" (Vanessa Lengies), annoying-but-bright, little sis (Sarah Ramos), and the upright dreamboat, "J.J." (Will Estes), were all so excellent you felt you knew them or would want to.

It's a shame NBC kept preempting & then switched the night this show aired. I & many other viewers lost track of storylines, but it had been one of the best-produced TV dramas in years.

  • This TV series would be a great supplement to any middle or high school U.S. history curricula, focusing as it does on life & cultural & historic events, as seen through the eyes of one family in mid-20th Century America.

  • i hated how it ended. she just rode off on the motorcycle. my family and i couldn't wait for the fourth season and the at like 10 one night on the radio they said it wasn't coming back and i was soooooo sad.

  • Possibly my favorite show of all time. (Age 57 tomorrow)

  • one of the best shows in the history of television. they cancel THIS? and replaced it with piece of shit reality show. a brilliantly written and acted representation of the drama of the 1960s. I still miss it. does anyone know if seasons 2 and 3 are available on DVD?

  • Yup, I agree with you I was hooked on American Dreams when the 2nd Season Premiered in 2003, and I was pissed that it was cancelled so abruptly after being moved to Wednesdays instead of it's usual time slot of Sunday at 8pm...what I loved about this show is that they showed some classic moment from American Bandstand and a very youthful Dick Clark....like showing guest musical performance by a celebrity and showing the old show on the monitor.

  • This was so great show....why so the best shows get cut!

Here in the UK we are now getting re-runs of the show so hopefully we will see all 3 seasons instead of just the season 1 & some of 2 that hallmark aired

  • I don't remember but there was an episode where a man sang the song "American Girl" and it was amazing. Could you tell me what season and episode that was? And was he singing Tom Petty?

  • if anyone from NBC is reading this BRING IT BACK! it was probbally the best show you guys had!!!!!!!

  • Who sings this song??

  • Howdy-

This song is performed by Emerson Hart. The complete songs runs a little over two minutes. Hope this helps. Peace.
