  • I think it's a waste of time fixing up the Christchurch Cathedral Church. Bulldoze it down.

It's going to cost more than it's worth to fix an ancient building that was built over a hundred years ago. It's had its day. Time for a new and modern church to be built.

  • He asked me how I knew it was going to happen and I told him I just sensed it - also studied this at school (years ago) and have been fascinated ever since.

But my heart goes out to all those who are affected by this natural phenomena

  • I am quite sensitive to tremors even if we only get them now and then in England but it was frightening enough to me to have my whole flat vibrating and the cats yowling and stuff falling off the walls when we had the Dudley Quake. I paged my concierge to let them know that 'we were just about to have an earthquake' and he was very skeptical, until of course the whole building was shaking and the switchboard was inundated with other residents who had no idea what was going on !

  • Why try to compare the two ? Surely what you all should be thinking about, are the unfortunate people who were affected by these 2 catastrophes ! Those who lost their lives, their families, their livelihoods, their whole villages or buildings within those towns/cities.

Just because the quake happened months ago, it doesn't mean it's forgotten - people will still be living in fear, that's a natural thing to happen !

  • well i must say i wasn't in japan in their earthquake i was in chch when we had our one and unless you were here then shit the fuck up.... it was scary enough to go through the actual quake now having idiots saying it was pathetic get a life.

  • that gingerbread house was built strong.

  • Well then, I've read some of these posts and all are comparing the strength of the quake. Two things to consider. 1. the number of lives lost. 2. the number of people who lost their homes, places of work, and everything else around them.

  • WOW! I hopes Mr Shogo Oshawa survived both earthquake (and tsunami).

  • the picture kinda looked like soviet russia

  • And theres just been another one.

  • The difference between the Christchurch earthquake & Japan's is the ground acceleration (thrust fault) in Christchurch was up and down which is quite rare, not side to side! Also, Christchurch had a focal point of 5.8km deep & 6.8km from the CBD. This quake was short but very violent. EQ's are apart of life in Japan, not so much here in Christchurch. Anyone comparing the two that has not experienced it has no idea!!!

  • @delta27able The Christchurch quake had both up and down as well as side to side movement which made this more destructive.

  • Im in Chch...have lived here all my life....& would just like to say I am a little shocked at some of the comments here 'comparing' our natural disaster to Japan....either way, both countries/cities have lost significant life from a natural disaster....to say theirs wasnt as bad as ours is biased...were any of you in japan at the time of their quake? i mean, they are still recovering bodies...there should not be a comparison...it is not a competition

  • @karinadaphne Oh my goodness, exactly. I'm from Chch and have lived here all my life as well, but there's no point in comparing the two disasters. They were both significantly horrifying in their own way. Completely agree with you in saying that it's not a competition.

  • So crazy, people are just so stunned. I'm surprised the whole thing didn't collapse, cos I definately thought my house would! I was at the other end of the house from my mother, but I was obviously screaming loud enough for her to come running out of the shower stark naked!!! & in reply to all the Japan quake comments. Someone from chch went to Japan after the Feb quake and said ours was way worse than theirs.

  • ChCh was far the worst quake as the buildings where not the same structure as Japans

It was one of the worst in the a modern City ever I managed to Survive it.

  • @feraltex Yes you are right. Chch's buildings aren't built for an earthquake where is Japan's are more so.

  • Comment removed

  • My god im from christchurch and this is the first time i have cryed since the feb quake hit just listening to the screaming off the kids and adults freaking out..

  • Comment removed

  • why cant the cameraman ever be a film student??!! ugh

  • @Spockpaperscissors I doubt there was a steady hand in Chch for days after this mother hit...

  • its like a movie ! DAMN thats scary!

  • lol

  • I think I speak for all of Christchurch when I say that I wish that giant blue cone thing fell down instead of the Cathedral. The Cathedral was the one thing that made our city so unique and amazing, and now it's gone.

  • @OMGlikeWHOAx It'll be back, don't listen to those people blabbing about keeping it in ruins. We have to have it back, it's in pretty much every logo and in our minds when we think of Christchurch.

  • @OMGlikeWHOAx shit happens! ;o)

  • @genxxxersize "shit happens'? Are you fucking kidding me?

  • this is real i have been there since the earthquake and it is just unreal still 6 months after it happened. RIP to all the people that died down there that tragic day :-(

  • @KINGxTROLL thats realy sad to say to us .

  • @KINGxTROLL

    We're Canadian?

    Whaaaat theee fuuuuck?

  • My beautiful city - I love you Christchurch. I miss you. Peace

  • @xXtheAtheistXx You deserve to die

  • not the chess :L

  • I ran behind the cathedral just after when another aftershock hit, A guy was running in front of me got hit by some of a building as it fell

  • Thats my city.... It will never be the same again.

  • I watch with no sound. Bad camera work. Very shakey.

  • @Bax7a seriously buddy, I'm sure his main priority was providing excellent camera work for you.

  • im still crying

  • Man, this just breaks my heart. I was in the city when this thing hit and was forced to work past dead and injured to get out this video just br

  • The Christchurch earthquake had 4X the ground acceleration than felt in the worse parts of Japan. Much like a bomb there are 2 major factors, how big the bomb is and how "close" you are to it. The Christchurch quake was under a outer suburb where the Japan quake was 150KM at sea and much deeper.

The Japan tsunami and Nuclear issue was really the major devastating factors not the relatively non damaging quake. Everyone just reads dumbed down sensational headlines "Magnitude 9.0 quake!!!!!!"

  • @Battleneter i agree but we dont want to minimize the earthquake in japan either... but most damages there came from the tsunami not the quake as you said

  • @Battleneter I agree that the magnitude is not usually a good measure of the destructive power of a quake, but the Japan had a PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) of 2.97g while we in Christchurch had a PGA of 2.26g in Heathcote. And the Japan quake was only 37km deep. Comparing these events is impossible, they are different in so many ways, but at least get the facts right before you go on a rant. It was the 5th biggest earthquake ever recorded, so its hardly sensationalist headlines.

  • @Battleneter Yea i was in japan quake nere Sendai and if the 9.0 happened here for horrid 6 mins there would be nothing left of the city. Closer and shallower quakes are makes more building damage excluding tsunami. Inland quakes.

  • @Battleneter ,

"not the relatively non damaging quake".

ohhh............so............what caused the tsunami? That "non damaging" earthquake you mention?

What a fucking moron to even make comparisons. The Japanese quake went for 6 minutes and did much damage and killed many people!

The major killer in CHCH was 2 pathetically constructed buildings

  • @dobberdoss Don't you ever talk like that about Christchurch again. Shut the fuck up. We all learned the bad structure of those buildings and yes if they were all good it wouldn't be so bad. But it happened. And I'm with Battleneter, the earthquake was damaging for the fact that it did cause the tsunami, but the actual earthquake they felt. Plus i just think you don't fully understand what he means..

  • @Natalie72622739 ,

My parents live in Kaiapoi bitch, Don't ASSUME and take your righteous attitude and stick it where the sun don't shine

  • @dobberdoss Lol asume what? Well I think you should take your attitude and stick it where the sun don't shine? See what's happened? Btw i wouldn't even bother replying cause i'm not going to reply to yo again, I just thought that was kinda.. sad that you would say that especially if it was so close to home (just to clarify, you are 100% right, the way you said that, I don't believe was). And nasty words are meant for nasty people.

  • @Natalie72622739 ,

My god, what a fucking loser. Parents are fine by the way, NO damage LOL

  • I love the huge amount of ignorance you have stenciling out of your asshole, maybe you should go sit on the toilet for a while.

  • I have heard people saying that this was nothing comparing to the Japan earthquake and to the move out of the spotlight but I actually lived through it and the scientists are saying that Japans one wasn't necessarily bigger it just, lasted longer. We have lost nearly all our heritage buildings and I know a 6 year old girl who lost her father who died getting people over the hill to there homes in lyttelton harbour. I may be only 14 but I am speaking the truth of what surrounds us.

  • @MissILoveMusic13 yes the quake was worse in ChCh but the tsunami did far more devastation and deaths

  • Notice in the description above it says "deadly earthquake"? So show some respect for the dead AND the living and stop saying stupid shit about how no one cares about Christchurch anymore. Most of the dead will never be identified because they're injuries are so horrific. Families will never get to see their loved ones again, and you're having stupid bitches about why no one cares. Grow the fuck up and show some respect.

  • Aw not the giant chessboard!

  • @minni3l0ve

That's good to know, but then it should have been: "AMERICAN tourist Shogo Osawa..."

. Unless he doesn't have his birth certificate...ohhh...sorry I just wanted to connect the news of today with this comment.

  • @Rao665 Maybe he just speaks English with an American accent? Depends where he spent the most time learning to speak fluent english.

  • @minni3l0ve then he should be called "American tourist" You big Jerk

  • @Annieberkowitz8 so you know all of them?? cause im pretty sure you dont you giant ass fucking slut, may be come to my place and i could kick the shit out of you dick head...oh did i mention you are a slut? an ugly one at that no doubt...fell out of the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down i bet.

  • I live in Christchurch and I was on the 5th floor when it happened in the middle of town and it was terrifying. Everyone's been so awesome though, sending search and rescue people and donating money and such. Thanks for all the support guys!

  • That is really really terrifying. I'm so sorry for those who are suffering still.

I know how these PC trolls would react if they were in a situation like this - scream 'Save ME' and run. They wouldn't stay around to help get ppl from cars and building.

  • this is soo sad, I hope your family and friends are okay.. i just wish the bloody media would tell us more- our prays are with your country xxx

  • oh my gawd thats my catherdral

  • you have to admit, most of the comments on this video are a waste of time and no doubt exist to divide us. time to start using our brains, be a bit kinder to people, show some apathy and respect. and if you are a NZer (no doubt these young comment posters are) - YOU my friend, will be spending the rest of your life PAYING extra taxes to pay back the DEBT borrowed by the NZ govt to rebuild chch. you are officially a slave to the system

respects to those who've lost everything. there are many.

  • Plenty of people care alright, you only have to look at the huge amount of support provided by people from all over the world, it's been fantastic. Those making comments about no one caring are just sad , lonely little people living in dark rooms with only a computer screen for company. They only ever make such comments anonymously and would never have the balls to say such things through their real identity online or face to face.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY WTF ur such a low life prick, U r saying that no1 cares anymore then why do we have rescue workers and police from other countries in nz still helping out, we didnt want this to happen to us and for 1 we definately feel for japan at the moment and what they are going through, Im from canterbury and was in christchurch when the quake hit I have seen things that will scar me for the rest of my life so how bout u just go crawl back 2 ur little hole of nothingness

  • this brings back chilling memories, I was in town it was the most horrific thing I have been through, thought i was going to die. My heart goes out to those who lost any1 in this awful earthquake

  • i was only at the cathedral with my partner the day b4

  • Don't pray, read science books and figure out when, where and why the next earthquake will happen. Read science books and learn how to make your buildings safer. Stop praying, it's not working, see video above.

  • i am sorry people on my immature stupid behaviour

    really sorry

  • @ParanoiaDestroyah "no one but new zealand cares about christchurch"

know what that means you tard.

  • Hey Japanese tourist.. the earthquake followed you in Japan

  • @THEBIGCAGEY Well they use nuclear power full well knowing the risk they bought that upon themselves. New Zealand doesn't use nuclear power, they can't control nuclear reactors, meltdowns have happened before and they know the damage that can be done.

  • @JusHere2PostComments =uneducated

  • @bob222wp=uneducated lol

bro no one but new zealand cares about christchurch anymore. its such a tiny deal compared to japan.

dont even know why they showed it on 60mins tonight.

  • @JusHere2PostComments lol is what u do when your uneducated

  • @bob222wp honey, you might want to remember how to spell 'you're' before you go dissing people about their education.

  • @bob222wp lol bro stop it with this uneducated shit. you aint any more intellectual than i am.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY Wow you're up yourself. That's all I say. Never knew that someone could be so horrible.

  • Wow. That must have been awful.. ugh, all these bad things that are happening. D:

  • lets hope the nz landers are not forgotton in ligt of japan

  • @THEBIGCAGEY Haha that's funny 'cos I'm pretty sure people still care about us New Zealanders. It's totally awful about Japan. We know what its like. So just shut up. There are still thousands of people in Christchurch without water, electricity and toilets. So yeah, Christchurch is still pretty bad. NZ has actually sent over some search and rescue people to help Japan. We care about them. I think they cared about us when they saw it on their T.V's. So shut up. K cool.

  • this is stupid to be fighting about something as serious as this. it's a big deal. i climbed that cathedral less than a year ago, and its rather scary to think that its no longer there. stop fighting and consider the fact that some people DO care about what is happening to these poor people.

  • @XdragonSparxX I agree.

  • D: not the church!!

  • Oh my fucking god guys, just shut the fuck up!!! You may think I'm crazy, but this could be the beginning of the end for all of us, shouldn we be grouping together and helping one another survive no matter where we are??!?!?! just stop hating and arguing.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY careful wat u say, itl bite u in the ass

  • @JusHere2PostComments They only got attention for it because they weren't prepared and so it did a lot of damage. Earthquakes of that magnitude happen all over the world fairly often, and aren't generally considered noteworthy on a worldwide scale.

  • @JusHere2PostComments How could you say that? You are a FUCKEN prick! I hope your family dies in a natural disaster

  • @TheMitchellWhite Lol cause its true. no one but new zealand cares about the shit that happened in christchurch.

minor damage compared to japan. have you seen 60 mins that came on tonight ? . . .

  • @JusHere2PostComments you do realise if the same quake that occurred in chch happened in japan it'd kill thousands. Any disaster in New Zealand is diluted by the fact we have such a small low-density population.

  • @kro235 Well no. The same size earthquakes that happen in Chch happen every year in Japan with little to no damage and people get on with their day because most of Japan is more experienced with earthquakes and is prepared for earthquakes up to 7.5. Christchurch is getting a look at what happens often in Japan.

  • @ASHma101 The Richter scale is what the media and the public uses and has no real bearing on the actual force felt by buildings and people. You have to take into account acceleration (very important), G forces and distances. When you look at all of these stats in depth for the 6.3 quake in chch you will find its widely recognised as one of the most powerful quakes felt in a metropolitan area in modern history. So no, Japan doesn't cope with quakes like it everyday.

  • @JusHere2PostComments I think people DO care when 220 people die in a natural disaster. You don't because you are a senseless, friendless, lifeless prick that has nothing else to live for.

    Have fun posting comments.

  • @TheMitchellWhite "no one but new zealand cares "

know what that means . .

  • @JusHere2PostComments Heaps of people care. People are just now more focused on Japan because that is what is happening at the moment. That was a lot bigger than the Christchurch earthquake.

Nobody cares that you were dropped on your head as a child.

If you and your family died in a disaster I wouldn't care either.

In fact.... I HOPE it happens

  • @JusHere2PostComments Wrong. People care and still care. We just move on more quickly these days but that doesn't mean no one cares which is something you will be wishing if such a thing happens in your area or to you.

  • @fatgrumpy the news is also running this clip as part of the japan earthquake story. fail.

  • Jesus Christ, why?...

    Hello...

    Anyone there?...

    Didn't think so.

  • @12dollarsand78cents =uneducated

  • @bob222wp There are no god(s). There never have been. There never will be. Pray all you want, it won't change a thing. Read a science book instead.

  • this was uploaded two days before the Japanese one...

  • @THEBIGCAGEY No on here is telling you to look at New Zealand and ask for your sympathy. This was just uploaded to show everyone extra footage of what happened after the earthquake. So run along now..

  • Horrible and to think that this only happened in New Zealand..it is now happening to Japan as well along with a tsunami. Sad...

  • @JD55000 lol ur a moron

  • @JD55000 FUCK you asshole! they are both as bad as each other. Yes I do feel orry for myself my dad died. would you like to take his place mother fucker!

  • @JD55000 hey chill out! we do feel for japan man, u fukwits dnt kno shit

  • i got shivers like 5 times while watching this.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY WHAT CUNT!!!

  • @THEBIGCAGEY what a retard

  • NZ, China and now Japan its getting scary now and next year is 2012 i dont want to believe it but its looking like some shits gona go down in a year or two.

  • @MaoriWithaGun How do you think all the landmasses have formed over billions of years?

  • @ViciousMandy tell sme1 whho cares fag

  • Comment removed

  • It's like a religious experience

An old cathedral damaged only moments after an earthquake gradually appears inside the misty dust of the city of Christ Church OMG!

  • lol i guess there is a god and you better recognize it before it's too late there is no such a thing called natural disaster you fool.

  • @bxccapricorn god doesnt like japan

  • Unlucky guy now he is back in Japan... I hope he is alright

  • that woman running, I can FEEL her fear

  • Man that video has impact made me cry. Thanks for getting this footage.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY You really are a prize cunt

  • @THEBIGCAGEY the response I expected. I'm not even from NZ so what's with the sheep reference. Actually the sheep reference is a perfect reflection of your IQ....well I feel like I have offended sheep now there a lot smarter.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY oh nah yeah, no offense to you either but how bout you go jump off a bridge? you disgusting piece of shit. we had our chance in the spotlight? what are you mentally retarded?! you think Chch wanted this to happen to them? aye? people died you heartless bastard.

did you even watch the video? how would you like it if the same thing happened to your hometown? (not that i hope it does) but think about that before you write a disgusting comment like this again.

  • @THEBIGCAGEY Your a tosser buddy...do you really think they wanted the spotlight? There is no choice when disasters strike. Go back to your narrow mind world

  • hearing the baby crying the the back ground just breaks my heart

  • What God? The almighty and powerful one who warned everyone on earth about these times. I'm not saying its the end of the world but this is one sign God said would happen. The book of Revelation in The Bible tells all about this and even more. It was up to each of us to decide to believe in Him and Jesus Christ as our Savior. Pray for Japan and the rest of the world.

  • What God?? they think he's loving? TUI - Yeah right

  • wow, this is horrible... that baby crying makes me want to cry...

  • Let's hope Mr. Shogo Osawa wasn't in the Miyagi area in Japan during the last 48 hours.

  • @100xines

Yeah, Japan just got hit. That was "overdue" so fuck yeah, i'm nervous too.

  • @100xines

Might be what is known as "Scalar Weapons" and the rumor is they are vastly more powerful than HAARP and very difficult to detect......it probably soon will make Yellowstone Explode

  • looks so horrible at 0:43

  • wwow i didnt feel this i am ten and i was at my school camp just outside of christchurch

  • @baiba4 you probably didn't because you were around a forest area where there are lots of trees. The roots of the trees helps keep the ground still so its uncommon for earthquakes to happen in places like your campsite.

    But landsides can happen...

  • @Blueknightex wow, Earthquakes can happen anywhere...... around trees, forests, etc....... just wow....... ....... ..... ..... ..

Parts of the Earth move like a few miles under the surface and you know, which causes an earthquake..... you know...... and that pretty much contradicts your statement..... ..... ...... ....
