Nice turntable, if it were me I'd just record the music 'live' from the speakers, but the sound would certainly not be this excellent. Tauber was one of the finest musicians, could sing a grocery list and make you enjoy it.
It doesn't actually take that much longer to record it onto CD; in future I might even just do it at the same time I make the video to save time. Restoring and syncing back with the video might take 5 or 10 minutes so it's worth it for the good sound quality. I do like the sound that my camcorder picks up of the music coming out of the speakers so I will post one soon just to see if it's acceptable.
This is one of the most recorded songs of all time (even Callas sang it in her youth). Tauber, as always, sings it with great charm and beauty (in spite of the awful English translation). On a side note... Sebastián Iradier (Yradier) composed this habanera after a visit to Cuba in 1861. He also wrote "El arreglito," another habanera "borrowed" by Bizet for his Carmen. The original is on YouTube. Thanks for posting this treasure!
Thanks, although I don't think there's a 78 that would sound like this without being cleaned cleaned up on a computer after transfer or using the $6000 real-time Cedar system. What I do is transfer the recording using a CD recorder and then use ClickRepair to clean the recording up a bit before syncing it back with the video. I also might try just playing the record and having my camcorder pick up the music from the speakers for a more 'in the room' kind of sound in future; plus it's quicker!
And I never even changed the curve. Apparently Parlophone 78s use the NAB curve but I tried it and it was way too bassy. I'm wondering if the RIAA curve has to be removed before changing it to the NAB curve.. do you know? My 78 results are generally good anyways; as long as the record wasn't murdered years ago by an overused Victrola needle with 5 pounds of weight above it.
That depends on what software you're using to change it. I think with Audacity, you do have to remove RIAA first. There are others (including a freebie from the same author as ClickRepair) that give you the option to do this.
Before I found ClickRepair I never bothered with the restoration!
Thanks for the info; it was actually you I wanted to direct that comment to but I guess I didn't know what I was doing! I did use Audacity and wasn't sure how to remove it the RIAA but didn't know ClickRepair had the curve changing ability!
Interesting version, but I prefer hearing this sung in Spanish.

You may be interested to know that the label on this copy indicates it is a later pressing [ca. 1949/50] of a disc first issued in September 1942.
It survived the big deletions of 1951/2 and remained in the catalogue a little longer.
By 1955, there were only a handful of Tauber 78s still available.

I heard that song on ferry boat between kopenhagen and Landskroma Sweede back in 1955

I have heard many interpretations of this classic song.
Tauber is a Bravo Tenore, but I don't like his execution .
Excuse me

YouTube won't let me post URLs here, go to the same web page where you download ClickRepair, and look for a program called Equalize.

Excellent; it's free and I was hoping I wasn't going to have to buy another license! Just downloaded it. Thanks very much!
