I'm going to be completely honest. I have no strong feelings one way or the other because:
Good: MOTHER 4. nuff said.
Bad: I feel like it's going to be bad. Most (not all) video game series kinda get bad after 3 or so. No offense to Itoi, but that's really how I feel.

Earth, for some unexplained reason, has gifted people on it that can use powers called PSI. An alien named Giegue was sent to Earth to rid of PSI. He was found by a king and queen who raised him. The king learned valuable information about Giegue's race that he would use to kill them. Giegue killed the king and tried to take the entire human race out with him. He was stopped (not killed by Ninten.
If they made Mother 4 then it would be called Mother 4 in Japan and Earthbound 2 in America. So the game isn't even close to Final fantasy for America.
Mother 4 should be Earthbound 2. (I don't consider Mother 3 to be Earthbound 2 because it isn't a direct sequel to Earthbound, i.e. it doesn't pick up where the original Earthbound left off.)
Story behind this: Ness hears a An ITOI rumor and gets to onett to see mother 4 released at the GAME.(Building) he then finds it it was a lie going SHIT NO MOTHER 4!! Why did i just waste some pp?

It's just hated by the people that once loved it, and nothing's going to change that. Eventually some things just have to end. I don't think there's another game series that's gone on as long.

I was talking about the original character designs for all 3 mother games. They were done in clay, and clay would be easy to replicate in 3d. If Itoi hated the 3D designs, he'd probably like newer shaders that can accurately mimic his designs.
I just can't wrap my head around these people that keep whining about the lack of Mother 4. Can you not appreciate the three wonderful works of art Itoi has given us? What sets the Mother series apart form most game series is how much love has been put into them - they're Itoi's babies, they're original and heartfelt and have deeper themes underneath their wacky surface, especially the third game. I understand it's sad that it's over, but it was so good while it lasted.
Do you really want Itoi to churn out stories out if he has nothing he wants to communicate to us? You want him to make a 3D Mother game even though he himself considers it to go against the spirit of the series? And how can someone not be appalled at the thought of someone else taking over the series? Mother 4 should be Earthbound 2. (I don't consider Mother 3 to be Earthbound 2 because it isn't a direct sequel to Earthbound, i.e. it doesn't pick up where the original Earthbound left off.)

@garfocus The problem with Final Fantasy is that the old fans hate it because it's different, and the new fans...there are none. It's just hated by the people that once loved it, and nothing's going to change that. Eventually some things just have to end. I don't think there's another game series that's gone on as long.

@garfocus Unlike Final Fantasy, the Mother series actually has good story lines, simple game play and characters you actually get attached to. Final Fantasy just involves a load of emotionless pretty boys that are all depressed over what no one really cares about.

the only thing about the mother games that needs to change is a more interactive battle sequence and better graphics i guess. my bet is that if they make a 3D one its gonna end up really bad. that's my opinion. the only thing i didnt like was that you don't get to really see a battle u just see a picture of the enemy and u don't even get to see urself actually attack, just a number bounce off the enemy.

Why is Everyone arguing for? don't you know the plot of the mother games is to teach kids love, friendship, and courage. not trash talk although earthbound did stink (quoting advertisement for earthbound in u.s.a. earthbound is my favorite game i wouldn't bag on it.)

I was talking about the original character designs for all 3 mother games. They were done in clay, and clay would be easy to replicate in 3d. If Itoi hated the 3D designs, he'd probably like newer shaders that can accurately mimic his designs.

I just can't wrap my head around these people that keep whining about the lack of Mother 4. Can you not appreciate the three wonderful works of art Itoi has given us? What sets the Mother series apart form most game series is how much love has been put into them - they're Itoi's babies, they're original and heartfelt and have deeper themes underneath their wacky surface, especially the third game. I understand it's sad that it's over, but it was so good while it lasted.

Do you really want Itoi to churn out stories out if he has nothing he wants to communicate to us? You want him to make a 3D Mother game even though he himself considers it to go against the spirit of the series? And how can someone not be appalled at the thought of someone else taking over the series? That would completely ruin the charm of the games and take away what the fans - well, the fans who haven't royally missed the point - love about them.

Well, let's see. I said that I thought people should stop bitching about there only being three games and appreciate what they had as well as respect Itoi's decision. I also wondered why people are hell-bent on having a 3D Mother game when the creator of the series is so against the idea.
