Well, in the "dog test" level by peter he sais that you can abandon your dog wile wounded but the dog will still get his maimed self towards you, and he said"if you are in the pub drinking with your mates and hear a scratch on the door it will be your dog"or summthing like that, and the people will react at how you treat your dog as well i dont think the dog can die and it will be present in the game even if you leave him, and he said something about the dog"giving up"
