  • What year is it ?

  • @12Radius Thank you for your question. I am not fully sure I understand your question. Are you asking what year is the guitar? The guitar is new and from Republic guitars. Enjoy.

  • @12Radius i think this is a jumanji thing... it's 2012 now!

  • @god1425 Thank you for your comment. Jumanji? What year did that come out? LOL Happy New Year. Enjoy.

  • I wish I could learn from you in person. Only if I had 1% of your skills I'd be happy. Thank you for these amazing videos. Keni Lee a Living Legend!

  • @DrNoth Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. If you really desire to play well, it is a simply matter of applying yourself over a long period of time. There are certainly guitarists in your area that can teach you the basic methods of fingerpicking in person. Working through my video CD lessons with them (if needed) and traveling to attend different guitar seminars will add more experience. Just think practically about what you want and avoid dreaming about it. Enjoy.

  • your skills are incredible

  • @iGoshiix Thank you for your comment. I must admit it is rather difficult to stay on top of my game and maintain or improve my skills over time. (Getting older doesn't help!) I don't tour or play on a regular basis. I am constantly relearning songs as I vary my set list that I play while on the subway platforms of NYC. I guess if it was more like a 9 - 5 job I would be more consistent, but heck, I don't want my music to turn into a laborious job anyway. LOL Enjoy.

  • HEY BROTHER ALL YOU NEED IS ME NEED ME ILL DOING THE SINGIN

  • @Tomsouthrock Thank you for your comment and interest in collaborating with me. Enjoy.

  • Your arrangement here is great. I play this in standard tuning but am probably going to learn your arrangement after hearing it. You are one of the best players I have listened to on YouTube. Keep those videos coming!

  • @Terraplane29 Thank you for your kind words. I am glad to hear you like my arrangement. Enjoy your practice.

  • Now this is a great representation of your artistic side,...good job

  • @gallanttimmy201 Thank you for your encouragement. Enjoy.

  • Awesome. Still can't nail standard version thought. Maybe it's my poor dexterity.

  • @MSBollWeevil Thank you for all your comments. As far as my arrangements goes, this one is certainly a little more complex than the majority. I basically worked on a simple framework of the song and then when I was confident, I added the fills and runs. It is important from a solid learning curve to proceed from easy to challenging. Play slow and steady focusing on good clean tones that are in pitch with a solid rhythm. Take your time. Enjoy the process.

  • hi ken outstanding playing, i have watched most of your youtube videos, all played with great feelings and panache, at the moment i'm learning soul of a man on a cigar box guitar ,have you had a go at this tune? do you ever get to play in england? thanks for the music. peace& love

  • @MrSleepytg Thank you for your comments and questions. To find my video, Youtube Search the title: Blind Willie Johnson Soul of a Man Hopefully this will give you some ideas for a CBG rendition. I hope to visit Europe someday. Especially England, the land of my ancestors. Please feel free to write if you have any questions my friend from across the pond. Enjoy your practice.

  • looks like mark's knopflers guitar.

  • @luki01111 Thank you for your comment. Similar, but I believe the guitar on the album cover is a vintage National Style O. Enjoy.

  • Is that guitar from Republic Guitars?

  • @Mackers2317 Thank you for your interest and question. Yes, it is from republicguitars. It is the Parlor model with full size neck (steel body - relic finish). They offer good quality resonator guitars at affordable prices. Please feel free to write if you have any further questions. Enjoy.

  • @KeniLeeBurgess Yeah I'm just shopping around for a nice yet affordable one. I think I found one on their site that might just be the one for me... it's been staring at me

  • @Mackers2317 Thank you for your response. I have been fortunate to able to play a wide variety of resonator guitars and I can honestly say that Republic guitars are a good solid choice. National Resophonic guitar makes a superior instrument, but they start close to $2000. If you do decide to purchase, make sure you tell Frank, Keni Lee sent you. He will include a free copy of my instructional video CD 1. Also, write back when you get it. I am interested in your feedback too. Enjoy

  • Now,after watching all videos in here, one question: is it possible to get a CD orDVD from you? Of course not for free! I´m here in germany/berlin and would be very glad about it! Just give me a little note and i would be happy to get contact.

  • Great playing and voice man.

  • @panbread89 Thank you for comment. Enjoy.

  • Guitar playing was beautiful, singing was awful.

  • @kragger1985 Thank you for your comment. Certainly my guitar playing is stronger than my singing. My singing is definitely a work in progress. Enjoy.

  • ALL your videos are addicting!! Keep em coming, keep the traditional delta blues alive. Would love some more lesson type videos, please!

    Thanks again

  • @alkalynn1 Thank you for your comment. I assume you have seen my instructional video CDs for sale on ebay by searching: keni lee Although, I will continue to post more supplimentary material in the future. Enjoy.

  • You're skills with that guitar are amazing.

  • @DrNoth Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your encouragement. Enjoy.

  • This was just great. Thanks for posting.

  • sounds beautiful, thanks for the post! keep em' coming!!!!!!!

  • @lykndamuzic Thank you for your kind words. Please see my page for other renditions of early Blues guitar classics. Enjoy.

  • You notice ever single white dude that thinks their a bluesman, they all play the same type of guitar, dobro LoL.Is it to make up for that sound they are trying for?Im white myself and I just find it funny, just like how the stones, allman brothers, beach boys etc all ripped off delta blues and now on youtube trying to teach somthing they realy dont know nothin bout. Its hard times now aint it up in DC or where ever LoL.Thats whats wrong in the us,everyone done lost their roots.

  • @jguitarz1 Thank you for your comment. Well, you are making some very broad statements. I have no idea. I can only speak for myself. I enjoying listening to and playing the Blues. I simply create my own renditions from impressions I get from the originals. Artists have been imitating the masters as a means of learning for a very long time now. You don't have to be French to be a French chef. You don't have to be Italian to make paintings like those on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Enjoy.

  • @jguitarz1 Furthermore, The resonator guitar (1930s) was played by many of the original masters, Bukka White, Son House, Blind Boy Fuller, etc. I like most I assume, are fasinated by the tone over a regular guitar. As a performer it is nice when people like your art, but if you are really doing it for the love of the art, you take a lot of negativity from people. You learn to forge on. Personally, playing guitar for me is not a competition. Thanks again for your interest. Enjoy.

  • @jguitarz1 You are not just Marginally Stupid, you brick wall stupid. Stop making music about race. It makes people uneasy and they can't enjoy it which is what it's for. I should not speak to you that way.... wise up man.

  • KeniLee, I just want to take the opportunity to say that I appreciate your videos greatly. Your earnest dedication to to this genre of music stands out like a bright star on a dark night sky and your educational efforts are greatly appreciated here. Thanks for your kind contributions to the online community.

  • @kd5txo Thank you for taking the time to offer your truly encouraging words. I love playing this style of music and I am extremely fortune to have viewers like yourself who appreciate my work and inspire me to continue and dig in deeper. We are all fortunate for the advancements in technology that makes this all possible. If it wasn't for sites like youtube, ebay, myspace, facebook, cigarboxnation, etc., old Keni Lee would be just sitting on the back porch entertaining Onyx. LOL

  • Awesome instrument

  • @jakes6inch Thank you. Republic guitars are good affordable guitars that offer a great tone. Please check out their site. Enjoy.

  • Nice....the piano feel of the original plus slide

  • @PeluMaad Thank you for your comment. Yes. Please check out this video too.

The Entertainer by Scott Joplin Bottleneck Slide Open Tuning

Another experiment in trying to create two lines of music on the guitar at the same time in open tuning. Simply a work in progress. Tricky, Tricky. Enjoy.

  • Better and better!

  • @BluesDfender Thank you for your continued encouragement. I appreciate your comments. Enjoy.

  • Can you do a video on how to play in this similar style of blues! It's really nice! Great job man! It ain't easy playing and singing.

  • @peesoshit Thank you for your comment. Although, I have not yet taught my rendition of this song, I suggest you check out my instructional video CDs that are for sale on ebay by searching: keni lee I think you will find they will offer you the same musical theory and technique that I applied when creating this cover.

  • @peesoshit CD 1 thru CD 3 teaches a comprehensive course. You can also write if any questions arise as you work thru the lessons. Sorry about the delayed reponse. I just returned from a 15 day trip to China. Happy Hoildays.

  • 3 people are mean

  • @michaeljackson5236 Thank you for your comment. Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don't mind negative comments as long as they are constructive in nature. Like Mama always said, If you got nothing nice to say, it is best to say nothing at all. Sorry about the delayed reponse. I just returned from a 15 day trip to China. Happy Hoildays. Enjoy, Keni Lee

  • wow Ive never seen a small body reosnator guitar before..

  • @wisesatyr72 Thank you for your interest. This guitar is made by Republic guitars. It has a small body that makes it nice for traveling, but the full sized neck makes it feel comfortable like a full sized guitar. Check out their site. Enjoy.

  • @KeniLeeBurgess would you recommend this Republic guitar? Because Im thinking about getting one, just kinda worried about the action and the sounds..You know some of these guitar have that annoying metallic sound or the action is just a tad too high, are they made in the US?

  • @wisesatyr72 Thank you for your interest and question. This guitar is made in China. Frank at Republic will set it up according to your specifications. The parlor guitar due to it's smaller body size sits lower in your lap and has a different tone than the other full sized models. I feel for the money you can't beat the quality construction and tone from a Republic guitar. National Resophonic guitars are made in the US, but are over double the price. I hope this helps. Enjoy.

  • Hiya

  • Wonderful! That get's a woman's motor running!!!!!!!!

  • @Zebra902 Thank you for your comment. Well, it is just like Son House said, there ain't but one kind of Blues...and that consists between male and female...

Youtube Search: Son House Interview Clips

  • Hi, just in the process of learning this in standard, then I go and see this!

Awesome version with a lot more groove..I need a reso!

  • @MonkeyHanger303 Thank you for your comment. I originally learned Mississippi Blues in standard tuning. Then to better understand the fingerboard in open tuning, I arranged it into open G tuning. Definitely a good way to learn. Enjoy.

  • great playing! love the banjo! I think i have the same slide as you. looks like it might be bigger at the top for the lower strings?

  • @yayadenial Thank you for your comment. I can't remember who made this slide for me. Maybe Greg at bottleneckstore

It is very thick and slightly tapered. Enjoy.

  • yo, can you show us like, all your guitars?

like, showcase that shit in a video or whatever man. you got some beautiful instruments

  • @MrWaddlesgee3 This is a parlor sized resonator guitar made by republicguitars. Thank you for your question. Enjoy.

  • Great Video! Thanks for the reply.

  • @MrWaddlesgee3 Thank you for your comment.

If you would like to know more about resonator guitars, please watch this video:

How to select a Resonator Guitar and Bottleneck Slide for Blues

    Enjoy.

  • hey thanks!!!!!! by the way are there any cheaper parlor sized resonators? everything I could find are like $1000.

  • @MrWaddlesgee3 Let me give it to you straight. An entry level resonator is about $800 - $1000 bucks today. Better professional quality like National Resophonic starts at $2000. I would avoid purchasing less expensive Asian imported instruments. Resonator guitar are mechanical guitars. Build poorly they rattle and buzz. Beware of buyers remorse. Save your money and buy quality. Until them, remember any steel string acoustic is perfect for learning slide. Enjoy.

  • man i could listen and watch to you play all day Keni

  • Yes, I am in Spanish tuning (aka Open G). Low to high (DGDgbd) The instructional video CDs are formatted to play on your computer. They are in .wma and will play on any PC or Mac as long as you support windows media. You can also download a free media player from winamp. The CDs do not play on a TV DVD player. • OK, tu joues bien de ton instrument mais tu ne sais vraiment pas chanter et c'est dommage !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (rires)

  • Thank you for your comment. I agree with you. I feel I play guitar better than I sing too. Learning music is a lifelong study. Maybe you should post some videos of yourself singing and also some lessons. This would be more helpful. Enjoy.

  • like the old National and all the others . they all sound great. Keep on playin'.

  • Thank you. I agree, the resonator sound in open tunings from National guitars adds a totally unique unseparable sound quality to the old Blues songs. Enjoy.

  • Kool Playing man, I really enjoy the song you playing, very good, good good.

  • Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy.

  • yah. well... ive been practicing skip james lately..... hard time killin floor bluse....

when I first started in open G I was playing "I cant be satisfied: and "I feel like goin home"-muddy waters and so on from "the definitive collection".... perfect album for slide blues..... btw, cant wait until I can order your blues records, both instructional and performance.

  • Yes, Skip James's songs in D minor tuning are very haunting. I'm a big fan also of Muddy Waters's very early Plantation CD. Thank you for your interest in my music and instructional material. Please remember to feel free to write if you have any questions as you work through the lessons. Enjoy.

  • man you got it goin on in this song.

    bluse.

  • Thank you. This is one of the first songs that I played in standard tuning and transposed into Open G to learn more about the fingerboard. The more I explored, the more I discovered. It certainly got bigger than I ever expected. Enjoy.

  • this is awesome!

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • very cool.....I also play with bare fingers..can't play with picks and i don't intend on learning

  • Thank you for your comment. I mainly play wearing a thumb pick and two fingerpicks. It may be challenging getting use to playing with picks, but the tone is well worth it. Of course, it is certainly not necessary. Enjoy.

  • thats rattlesnake music alright!

  • Thank you. Enjoy.

  • love the guitar

  • Thank you. It is a Republic Resolian. Even though it is parlor sized, it has great tone and volume. Please check out Frank's website. Enjoy.

  • Excellent rendition of this timeless classic. Will this be the subject of one of your outstanding slide guitar tutorials? I'd love to learn to play it but there is no chance I'll figure out your fingering from this vid.

  • Thank you. Yes, I have plans to teach this song. Currently, I've been entrenched in the fasinating world of Cigar Box guitar, but please stay tuned. Enjoy.

  • Nice! Have you seen the movie crossroads?

  • Thank you. Yes, if you mean the old movie with the Karate Kid. Not a bad movie. Enjoy.
