@lovehair13 Promise rings are kind of just "Yeah, one day I'll marry you" - I think it's less official and committed than actually being engaged, and purity rings are about not having pre-marital sex.

@lovehair13 No Promise rings are a symbol of two people being in a serious relationship and saying they promise to wait to be intimate with each other until theydecide they want to be with each other for the rest of their lives (aka be married before) Purity rings are a sign/reminder that you have promised yourself, God, whoever else you choose to promise to (in my case my parents) save your virginity until you are legally married

Having it around his neck makes me think he's just trying to avoid getting publicity for not wearing it anymore, kind of like Joe (although I hear the story is that he lost it in Africa and is having it remade - not sure if I believe that either, with Ashley Greene as his girlfriend). I get what you're saying though. I guess no one will ever really know.

This is the dark side to promise rings, people are viewing premarital sex as a horrible, condemnable sin when in reality it's healthy to explore your sexuality at your own pace. The promise ring is a personal choice and it seems that Joe just decided to change his mind. There's nothing wrong with that, because everyone needs to explore their sexuality whenever they feel ready, and not have to be restricted by something like a promise ring.

The religious believe that sex is only for people that are married. The non-religious dominate the world of sex. In nature species have multiple sexual partners. We are not some special devine beings that are better than the other species by waiting till marriage. By the way divorce is common in Hollywood and if she ever gets hitched it most likely will end in divorce.

i'm all for staying pure and making this promise to God.. but it just annoys me how disney and the general media have made it a fashion statement. it should be a personal choice that's made by the individual not because of their upbringing or parents or influences. i always feel really bad for the kids brought up with purity rings, they don't know what it means when they're 5 and it's just not right forcing someone into doing (well i guess "not doing" in this case) something!!

@ERINmaisie I agree with you on that. The first people I have heard about that wear purity rings are the Jonas Brothers, and when that statement came out, people started making a big deal out of it. But then, months later, young Hollywood icons started talking about how they wear purity rings and are trying to promote abstinence, when, in reality, they are probably doing God knows what. It should be treated as a personal choice, not a fashion statement. It sickens me to think about that.
