  • A few people have commented that this fantastic haunting piece was used in an episode of Captain Scarlett but nobody has mentioned that it was used several times in the 1969 Gerry and Sylvia Anderson live action movie 'Journey to the far side of the sun' aka 'Doppelganger' that I watched for the first time in many years last night. It also features lots of actors, locations, sets and props later used in UFO

  • I still get chills down my spine at 0:53 or so. Brilliant.

  • Worthy of the mighty Pink Floyd. Almost makes up for the cheesiness of the intro!

  • Nothing can compare that Sci-Fi ending Scene Combined with a Classic Theme Composition with today's Overrated low budget Scores

  • Rather intense closing credits. Pretty wild. You won't see that now with a promo for a future show.

  • Someone sent me a link to "Dial-up sound 700% slower (Creepy)" - it immediately reminded me of the score for these end credits.

  • What's really impressive is how much this incidental music sounds like the actual electromagnetic "music" produced by the planets -- particularly Jupiter and Saturn.

BTW -- that enigmatic planet right at the end of the clip is the wrong color to be Mars, and in the wrong place to be Venus. Is it ... Nibiru? j/k

  • Yeah, those were times when kids were indeed, kids. We were impressionable and just the sound of this music was enough to scare us plenty! I remember watching some other scary UFO/ALIEN related TV shows with my brother when we were alone, and we would watch from under the dining room table, placing the chairs strategically for "protection" !!! We were so innocent then !

  • I could never watch the end titles alone as a kid...I'd be scared shitless!!!

And this show came out at the same time as "Chariots of the Gods" and all those other UFO tv specials in the early seventies. And so, as you can imagine, if I heard this theme and was then asked by my mum to walk to the local shops at night to buy some milk I was petrified!!!

  • Mum I've wet the bed again!

  • One of the most fantastic ending sequences of any tv series! Thank you for posting!

  • The music gave me the creeps when I was a kid watching the show. I always guess the planet at the end was the UFO's origins.

  • Barry Gray will go down in history as a musical genius, his orchestrations are what set the tone for many of Gerry Andersen's brilliant TV series. They were original and memorable ,no other TV shows or movies have this unique musical composer. You could never confuse these soundtracks with any other series in production.

  • @neonflash1 Brilliant he is but let's not forget John Williams who did work on all of the Irwin Allen TV series. Lost In Space, Land Of The Giants, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Time Tunnel just to name a few..Movies? Then it gets downright insane with epicness. Pretty brilliant fella himself. :)

  • Although not born when this came out I have watched ths and lots of Gerry Anderson's puppet series before then. This chillng theme (edited down) was used in the Crater 101 episode of Captain Scarlet. Its where Scarlet, Blue (voiced by Ed Bishop ironically) and Green enter the Mysteron Complex and begin exploring and searching to find the heart of the complex (which turns ot to be a pulsator). I knew it had been used before

  • Remember this closing theme when I was a child and it scared the s***e out of me but loved the show.

  • So - what's the planet that makes such an ominous appearance at the end? Nibiru?

I'm kidding, of course. This was an amazing show, and the portentous end credits sequence was perfect.

  • This music is truly spooky. I watched this series as a kid in the early seventies. I still find it evocative. The bliss of nostalgia!

  • Awesome stuff. Can anyone recommend me some artists that create this type of cosmic noise music? I've been looking for this sorta stuff for a very long time..

  • @nuriumzzzzzzzz

I guess it pays to READ the Credits my friend--here's your Recommended Artist:

    INSTRUMENTATION--DON FAGAN

(as in, the SAME "Don Fagan" from STEELY DAN!!). I know--caught ME, too. Donald (M-F-N!) Fagan just before he formed STEELY DAN. damn!!

  • @nuriumzzzzzzzz Klause Schulze did such music in the 70s. He used the Moog synthesizer to create the album timewind.

  • this music is from Captain Scarlet that Gray just reused

  • Scared the hell out a me too!

  • for a kids programme this music and its

    scripts were chilling

  • the first time i heard this as a kid, it scared the cowboy shit outta me and i slept with the lights on for a month.needlless to say i never heard the end theme ever again.......till now

think i'm sleeping with the lights on........................

  • Yes like other comments this has stuck with me since i was kid, this and also the spooky music from CHILDREN OF THE STONES....still gives me the shivers!....Can i suggest fans check out this FANTASTIC video on youtube, its ALASKA AND SEBA-'Perpetual' its a spacey,sci-fi Drum and Bass track expertly 'married' to 2001 A Space Odyssey by BillyDrum7.......Thanks for putting this on.

  • This music and sequence always gave me the spooks when I was about 8. I'm 46 now and it still has the same effect. Barry Grey was a genius.

  • @mukatuna Agree, and it also signaled bedtime...so not only is there the spooks but it sucked, too.

  • The stuff sounds just like nasa recording of the planets from Cassini 2004!

Barry Gray was a Psychic Composer !

  • What a contrast with the jolly and forthright "Lets go get 'em!" opening theme. When I was a kid watching this show the end theme seemed to say "we don't stand a chance gainst the aliens".

  • This is brilliant music! Captures the tension/suspense of UFO

  • Genius music as ever in Gerry Anderson.

  • Molto suggestiva

  • One of the scariest ending credits music EVER ! (Kind of remiscent of the music used in the STARGATE sequence at the end of 2001 SPACE ODYSSEY)

  • Hello mate, you mentioned 2001 A Space Odyssey, check out the video i mentioned in my other comment.

  • Spooky, still makes my hair stand on end!

Are we alone in the universe, I think not!

  • The music was so good on this show. Too bad it was on for one season.

  • still spooky, wow, its stands up to the test of time...........

  • Chilling....even now. Many thanks for putting it up....Mike 45 and a half

  • Brilliant

  • Cool ending to a way cool show. Today you never get to see and hear the credits, they're always advertising something else and they scrunch the picture down so you can barely see.

  • I hate the way they do that and also all those logos on top the programme :x, apart from Doctor Who everything else I wanna watch i get on DVD instead.

  • Way ahead of it's time for the late 60's/early 70's.

  • Brilliant. Where have all the visionaries and great writers gone?

  • Still scares me

  • Remember this music used to scare the life out of me when I was a kid. Great stuff from Barry Gray.
