Every time I feel bummed abut being a Mets fan, I think to myself, "Hey, could be worse- at least we've won a couple Series this past century!"
NO CUBS NO! NO CUBS NO! HEY, CHICAGO, YOU MAKE US CRY, BRING TEARS OF LAUGHTER TO MY MY EYE!
(White Sox... eh, indifferent, an AL club that's not the evil Yanks or good Red Sox, so sure, why not- Go Go White Sox... unless we meet you in October, by chance...) ;)

Amen! When I was a boy and playing little league, I used to choke up like him and fill up my cheek with 5 slabs of that pink bubble gum they used to sell with Topps cards. I got to stand next to him when he came to my school--you bet I was going nuts. GO GO SOX indeed
The Sox not only had Norm Cash on that roster, but TWO future all star catchers in Johnny Romano and Earl Battey as well as future all star outfielder Johnny Callison, to say nothing of Don Mincher who was an all star first baseman later for the Twins. All traded in an attempt to win the pennant again the next year. Bill Veek really screwed up on these trades.
Hey, I grew up in Detroit in the 60's, and I can say Thanks Veeck. Stormin' Norman gave us a lot of good times in 13 years in Motown; Especially 1968!!!
my great grandpa loved the sox!!he loved NELLI FOX oh and i heard of thecity airraid sirens goin off!!and the guy who did it(name escapes me?!) was a huge fan!
When they played that throwback game against the Dodgers in '05, that's when I knew they were gonna win it all. AJ hit that walk-off homerun, after already being down in the bottom of the 9th. Greatest baseball year of my life!
As was Baines, Burns & Walker, I was also born in 1959. A wonderful post; thank you!
What a fun team that must have been to watch: Wynn, Shaw & Pierce in the rotation; Fox, Aparicio and Landis providing the Go-Go; and of course, Sherm Lollar and Al Smith providing the occasional power.
Also, a young Norm Cash was on that team, and Larry Doby finished with the Sox that year as well. Again, thanks for the post!
I too was born in '59 in Detroit...Funny thing Startiver is that if the Sox had kept guys like Cash. They might have won again....Alas Stormin' Norman helped us win it all back in 68.
