I live in whitechapel east london and the east london mosque is 800 yards away from my house. I live amoung muslims and have for two decades. Hamas is actually NOT corrupt. So much so that Time Magazine did a piece on Hamas and its extremely positive impact on Infrastructure in the West Bank.
As for the Jizya, its similar to the Kosher Tax. It was implemented in part because Muslim armies were required to defend the religious harmony of the state. As in the case of Al andalus/spain.

It was not in Mohammed's favour to break the treaty considering the Muslim could access the Hajj and were not economically or militarily blockaded.
You break a treaty if it doesn't favour your side, but in Mohammed's case, most of his requests were met.
In addition, Mohammed didn't have the protection he needed EVEN IF he wanted to break the treaty.
