I always dug this music! Make no wonder I later turned on to Herbie Hancock's first solo album (Takin' Off, 1962), and John Coltrane's 'Blues Minor' from the Africa/Brass Sessions!
@rambam1204 Likewise! It wasn't until sometime later tht I even knew what a dart was! I used to play darts at my cousin's house. I was never any good at it, but because I would spend hours just throwing darts in their basement, and because I could sometimes hit the bullseye (once in a blue moon!), my mom thought I was a dart champion!
If anyone wants to feel like this guy in the cartoon, fly on an Embraer ERJ-145 jet. It only seats 50 people, and it always makes me feel as if I'm flying inside a dart.
There's something about the music that was used with early Sesame Street clips that is hard to dislike and, more importantly, hard to forget! I didn't know if I remembered this one until I saw it, heard the music, and thought 'Yeah, I'm sure that sounds familiar!' Like 'Joe and the Junebug' and 'A Jazzy Triangle Mets a Square,' this has music that gets me into a good mood regardless where I am (well, almost always!)
I guess I'm not alone when I say how much this clip cracked me up everytime I saw it! The way the music was just being as hip as it wanted to be despite the comedy that was going on with the cartoon. I love the way the letter "D" keeps popping up in time with the music and then after seeing this guy flying through the air and all these "D's," the payoff is the guy exploding some kind of bubble and hitting the bullseye! Poor guy sounds surprised, exasperated and bewildered all at once: "D!?!"
Oh, my goodness, I remember me and my brother laugh so hard at this clip! If it's possible, can you download "My Friend Freddy"? I gotta see that again! lol
You're mistaken! I'm sure I saw this in the 70's. I was between 11 and 16 years old during the early 80's and by then, this cartoon was a memory from my childhood (although I hardly ever watched Sesame Street from 11 to 16 years old).
Does anyone have the clip that appears to be coming after this? It's about the island girl that takes a boat on the river and comes back up with a horseshoe crab. Has some very nice instrumental music to it. If so, please post!
D-Dart is my favorite. I never forgot that music. They yanked it cause they had to overhaul SS. Too much non educationtal stuff. Oscar the grouch. No longer grouchy. Stuff like that. Elmo.
They also won't allow Cookie monster to eat cookies! The politically correct crowd has taken over S.S. It is NOTHING the way it used to be. I bet Jim Henson would be rolling over in his grave if he could see how the show of which he had a HUGE part has been trashed so badly. It's like a whole other show now. They may as well cancel it!
@mstatz Well, in one of the "meal or no meal" clips here on YouTube, Cookie Monster is the baker (instead of the banker), and after 100 cookies are offered to the contestant and she refuses (saying, "who could eat 100 cookies?"), CM bursts out from behind the partition, wrecks the set, and devours the cookies! He must have had a relapse! :)
I cannot explain why it is that I always burst out laughing at the end of this segment, after the bang and the guy saying "D!!!"
Based on the animation style and music, I'd guess that this was from the same studio that made the "What comes out of a cow and starts with the letter m" cartoon.
Unfortunatly, I don't have it. I recorded these skits 21 years ago and only began videotaping at the end of every segment I didn't want. My videotape is made up of small clips, not entire episodes. I only collected old stuff from the 70's.

This is from the late '60s/early '70s. The soundtrack sounds like early Herbie Hancock.

Does anybody have that clip that appears before this video?I belive that's "Be My D" by DiDi O Day and the Dew Drops,as introduced by DJ Bushmanbill.
wattamack4 5 years ago
Right. Luis Santiero and Donald Siegal wrote "Be My D", so you're absolutely right. That's the correct clip.

Yep. Henson was doin kermit the frog in 55 on Ed Sullivan show. When he started SS in 69 he was keeping it entertaining.
