Such good driving skill, too bad at the end he missed judge the hill and cause the crash. 964 is always my favorit car, and I'm looking for one right now. I wish I can drive like him. Thanks for sharing.
Brakes + complete loss of grip (the rise he was going over) + turn = Ouch! I started to cringe as I saw those elements add up. AMAZING driving though!
Guau!!!!!!!, impresionante como maneja gilles ese porsche, lastina del porrazo que tiene al final, me encanta el sonido, la relacion de cambio, y el doble embrague que hace de vez en cuando
learning to drive a Porsche is not easy and even the best make mistakes but the feeling you get from a porsche on the edge is like no other car, the response of the car and feedback it gives you is beyond anything I can describe. When you get it right in a Porsche you really know it.
i thinks its the driver who makes the car look easy to handle. i see rear engine cars lose the tail waaaay to fast in the rain all the time, even if the driver countersteers on a dime
@actionjackson9000 Trust me, I know these things. They get squirelly. I had a 1974 Super Beetle with a turbo'd 2336cc Porsche engine, aircooled and intercooled. It was set on Bilstein shocks and coilover upgrade, and big Baer disc brakes with low profile tires on 16" wheels. It was fun as hell, but if you can't drive very well, you wouldn't want to step it up above boost, lol.
The 911 turbo always captured the popular imagination; but, 959 excepted, prior to four wheel drive 911s, Porsche rally cars were naturally aspirated, for the simple reason that, unless tamed by 4WD, a turbo car is not as adjustable on the throttle. To this day, the naturally aspirated GT3 / GT3 RS is the car you see at the Nurburgring, not the turbo.
Love the guy's car control and 'opposite-lock action' but there's definitely no turbocharger involved. (There's no "PARRRFF" noise at around 4000rpm, when the wastegate would open, and there's the pick-up from low rev's is far too quick - no lag.)
Looks 'wide-bodied' at the back (with black 'Fuchs' alloys) and almost 'narrow-bodied' at the front (with 964 Cup 'alloys') - weird!
I suspect it started life as a simple Carrera or SC or something
It doesn't sound like a turbo to me. The whining noise is definately the gearbox. I would have to agree that this car is probably an RS or RSR version, what series though? 964?
Well he has a co-driver who reads the corners for him beforehand. But even still, rallying takes a massive amount of skill and a ridiculous amount of balls :D
It might not be a turbo. Porsche made a 3.8 RS (lightweight non turbo semi racecar) and the RSR (full on non-turbo racecar) in the early 90s that used the turbo's body work.
this one is good, as well as Yellowbird at the ring. check out the vid of patrick snyers rallying his E30 M3 at the Manx rally. great aggressive driving.
sucks that people are so close to being killed in 70% of the video.....really...its a third world mentality...so bored we want to stand on the outside of a high speed turn
He is a good driver, but at the end, CRASH! I hope he is okay. =)

it was a fast s the most difficult part i guess

I would not fancy standing that close to a car travelling that fast, they're lucky the crash didn't happen when there was people standing nearby.

I love how prditable a 911 is, even in the rain where as most rear-engine vehicles are very finicky in the wet conditions. Nice video. 5 stars.

Thats not a turbo, its a N/A 3.8. there's not wastegate noise when he changes gear

Great vid, looks like classic lift off oversteer at the end though, too bad its on one of the fastest corners on the stage.
vansoth 2 years ago
This isn't a turbo. You can hear the gear whine (probably straight cut gears) and the brakes squeal. This surely sounds like a NA car to me.
18thebear 2 years ago 3
is that not the whine off a supercharger?
ollie1277 2 years ago
Def not a supercharger whine. You can tell because it is louder in certain gears than others.
18thebear 2 years ago
5th-gear and the brakes squeak like anything!
Love the guy's car control and 'opposite-lock action' but there's definitely no turbocharger involved. (There's no "PARRRFF" noise at around 4000rpm, when the wastegate would open, and there's the pick-up from low rev's is far too quick - no lag.)

thats not a turbo your hearing, thats the transmission when he shifts into 5th
freedomsoldier187 2 years ago
This is a 1991 964 Carrera RS with turbo body-kit. It's the standard 3.6L becouse it doesn't sound like the 3.8L and that is also very rare.
There is no turbo on this car ,the whine is from the race transmission.
If I remember corectly ,this is a group B rally car ,so it has around 400bhp.
LordMaxJa 2 years ago
Pff in group B there wasn't any Porsche.
Great car!

i think its a non turbo, first the sound doesnt match the car whit it. Second cant realy hear the wastegate. I could be wrong
