  • Fabulosa!

Is that Joan Dorneman at the piano?

  • straordinaria interpretazione un sublime legato, perfetta dizione voce splendida e grande fraseggio.

  • This must be October 1976 at the Met Marathon.

I wonder if any other footage of this exists, as there were some other stunning contributions, as well as Amara's and Scotto's.

  • @Mooorhe yes Roberta Peters, Amara, Rita Hunter and, ummm, can't think now. All are posted.

  • @StuartLou and... Rita Shane.

  • One would have a hard time finding a performance of this aria that captures so much of the character and beautifully vocalized.

  • Just spent the morning watching your incredible videos StuartLou. Wonderful..

Thanks for posting them. I'm getting rid of all my CD's and spending the rest of

    my life watching youtube.

  • FANTASTIC!!!

  • Incredible interpretation.

  • There were operas that scotto was extremely appropriate for.. Here, her white tone, works. In others it didn't.. I love her when she stayed in the coloratura rep, and the lighter lyric stuff.. There is an edge to her voice that I don't personally find attractive, but there is no doubt she was a major singer.

  • she was at her tops here. surely before she started to venture into enemy territory, which was in the 80's.

  • @sorobji Lombardi:69.Vespri:70,Tosca 79 Gioconda:79 and so forth..Most big Verdi and verismo roles were in the 70s: Ballo:74,Luisa Miller,Otello, Trovatore, etc were all mid 70's.Only Lady Macbeth 81 and Francesca 83 were added in the 80's.This is why she had trouble in the 80's.Perhaps also because of the weight loss However she was the ONLY major singer to rebuild the voice after the wreck and sing Kundry,Marschallin,Klytemnestra,The Medium, etc- all rock solid vocally until '02. A 50yrCareer!

  • Thanks for this post! (from Spain)

  • @pkunzip501 But hello???...She already had 30 years career in the 80´s. Most singers are over after 30 years of career. I heard her during the those years and didn´t bother me. Anyway, that she was able to improve some problems and continue singing, that´s a separate story. I just loved her!

  • @MrSebtian But hello what? I am well aware that she made her professional debut in 1952. I am glad that we both love her. Nevertheless, I must say that she started what you call the "enemy" territory in the late 60's with Lombardi. Yes she did add Francesca and Lady Macbeth in the 80's BUT almost all the heavy roles were in the 70's. The whole point of your post was that this started in the 80's which is factually incorrect. Pace, my friend.

  • O My God!!!!

  • Stunning performance!!

  • What year is this?

  • Wonderful singer...tough woman! My teacher told me she was at a Masterclass of Scotto's, and this girl got up and sang, wasn't really bad, decent talent but nothing special.

Scotto says to her "You know the book of 24 Italian songs for medium high voice?"

    Girl says she does.

Scotto says "You need to go back to that."

    Ouch. That's...constructive ;P
