  • Carl Perkins was my father's favourite. Now that he's passed on, I am glad he gave me a love for this kind of music, long live rock and roll. :)

  • one of the greatest assemblages of rock together, in one fucking place - ROCK ON baby!!!

  • wow a legend in the flesh. a rockability god

  • This might be the greatest collection of guitar talent on one stage at one time in history....

  • Quite simply one of the greatest rock n' roll performances ever captured on film, one that I could watch 365 days a year and never get tired of. Clapton's smile of pure joy at 4:42 says it all....

Anybody wanting to know the definition of great rock n' roll needs to watch the DVD of this entire show from start to finish. A true masterpiece.

  • What's that dance called that the man in the audience was doing at the very beginning?

  • The common denominator is Carl Perkins. Every one there was/is class. What Talent, What Joy , One of the best recordings of rock music that exists!

  • They all seem to get better with age.

  • Now THIS is music...

  • Anyone know what year this was filmed?

  • just kills me. My roots of musical joy

  • Everyone's there is having a good time in the audience, and I'm having a good time listening to the music on my laptop. Thanks once again for posting........................

  • I have no idea how they were able to stop playing, between the people on stage and the people in the audience everone was having such a great time, how I envy those who were there...

  • George Harrison > Eric Clapton

  • grandioso e indimenticabile Carl Perkins.

  • You forgot to mention the best guitarist on the stage. The bald guy in the back.....the one and only MICKEY GEE!!!!!

  • Gone, gone, gone...... what a crazy cat! He wrote Blue Suede Shoes on an old flour sack after seeing a cat at a local dance protectin' his new blue shoes... Carl and family were on welfare [public assistance] at the time. Keep rockin' in heaven Carl we love you.

  • Gone, gone, gone...... what a crazy cat!

  • Owwwwwwwlllllllllll yeah............

  • this is music at its best. its beats the crap thats out there today.look how happy george is away from the beatles.

  • My dad was born in 1932. He just simply says "I lived in the best time'. Country/western/a'billy & 'n roll. You could just buy 103 octane gas. I'm jealous.

  • Holy Crap! I just drove home from a friends place, listening to the radio, listening to the sterile, homogenised shit that passes for music these days and then stumbled in to this. This makes your spirit soar and your heart race and your feet wanna move and wish you'd had the opportunity to have been there when that fine collection of people made that fine sound.

  • fuck me...what a line up

  • Who is on the piano? Do you know?

  • Such a wonderful atmosphere !

  • @freezazoid Roseanne is Johnny's daughter. That's royalty in this crowd. She's a talented artist in her own right.

They invented the phrase "That rocks!" because of these guys.

  • How I wish I had been there!! sure would liked to have been a friend of his I always knew he was a nice guy, someone you would like to sit a drink a beer with.

  • Hee Hee Hee. That was a great night. I am the first guy to walk over and shake hands with Carl at the end. The people filming it got upset and the musicians did Blue Suede Shoes again after we were told not to go onto the stage at the end. Then when they showed it on TV they showed the first take with us all going over to Carl. He was/is a real star.

  • Dave Edmunds put this all together remember it well when it aired on BBC

  • Fantástico!

  • wait... who's Roseanne Cash? I new an older woman named that... maybe it's the same lady.

  • cuando muera quiero ir a parar a este paraiso!!!

  • This show makes me smile everytime I watch it! Luv the rockabilly!

  • rock on george!

  • Great-- love to see ringo with him,not many know that carl wrote a lot of the beetles songs. He was so talented in everything he did.

  • Could you just imagine the after party they had to have? I'd give one of my testies to have been there, LOL Peace all & thx for sharing this:)

  • As usual Mickey Gee is doing all the donkey work and trying to stay in the background and not get noticed,

  • To bad Keith Richards, Chuck berry, little Richard, and the Killer didn't make this jam.

  • How many cool rock and roll songs start out with "weeellllll"

  • @BCK all

  • @BCK all of em - lol

  • the only person missing here in my book is Brian Setzer...the rest of the Stray Cats are there...his screaming rockabilly guitar woulda brought the house down!

  • thanx juke ...will do

  • dig Clapton doin CHuck Berry on Blue Suede Shoes? George rocks Carl Perkins! Oh Yeahhh! It's not the equipment. It's not the producer. It's not the lights or choreographed moves. It's the spirit of Rock and Roll!

  • We din`t miss anything.Elvis missed by dieng

  • What year is this?

  • 1985

  • wildbill1953-,if u look up deke leonard,you,ll see dave charles on drums,cheer,s

  • well,i,ll mention roseanne cash since no-one else has,she,s a fantastic singer,n deservedly should be there.what a jam session,money couldn,t buy it.

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS

  • PURE MAGIC.

  • It does not get any better than this.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Great axis....who are the "others"??

  • It's really an all-star band!

Guitar -- Dave Edmunds (blue suit), George Harrison (gray suit), Eric Clapton (black shirt, black Strat), I think Earl

Slick (back right, sunburst acoustic), Mickey Gee (hard to see way back on right, blond Tele).

Drums: Slim Jim Phantom, RIngo, Dave Charles (pink jacket)

Electric bass: I think it's Greg Perkins (Carl's son)

  • Thanx .man....Lee Rocker on the big bass......I don't know Dave Charles....

  • Playing Double Bass is Lee Rocker from the Stray Cats

  • I couldnt have said it better myself. Thanks panhead1348!!

  • just remember,w/out carl all these others may not have existed at least not as we know them today

  • Carl Perkins, one of the founding fathers of Rock and Roll. I always loved the guy and a real gentleman. Elvis, Jerry Lee, Johnny cash and Carl Perkins were the "Million Dollar Quartet", named by Sun Records founder, Sam Phillips. All these guys are my true heros!

  • This is an absolute classic! I love it!!!!!!!!! Long live Rockabilly!!!

  • lee rocker stray cats

  • who is playing the base?

  • Clapton blows them all away

  • The only reason Clapton blows them all away is because Carl Perkins didn't solo...

  • You are absolutely right. With all due respect to Carl and the others I take my comment back. It wasnt appropriate.

  • fact ;)

  • George looked happier than a pig in sh*t thru this whole session. To jam with your heroes like this must be the ultimate natural high!

  • lol, YEAH!!!- same goes for Eric and Ringo and Dave-all of em' are exuberant! There's a pure joy that just radiates from that stage...love it! :)

  • With that amount of talent having such a good time, it says a lot for Carl! RIP :(

  • ha ha this is great...i was there in the audience lol

  • i love this!! think i'll do some guitar picking now!!!

  • Thanks for taking the the time and trouble to post this I love it and it still makes me want to jump up and dance--I'am 72 now

  • I have his sun records, won't play them anymore so thanks for putting these here where I can play them over and over. This era was the best and will never be repeated & thats a shame

  • October 1985...

  • Even amongst these rock gods, He is KING CARL - The greatest exponent of Rockabilly - He wrote it, played it, sang it, bopped it.

How he appreciated George. In 64 he thjought he was washed up when he went to England. The fans loved him and knew all his music. The Beatles came to meet him and loved it. They recorded 7 of his songs - more songs than any other non-Beatle.

  • At 1:14+ George isn't just doing Carl's licks, he's doing the exact steps Carl would do at shows.

  • Go Rosanne!!! THe insturment she's playing is called a queero btw. Oh and thank you duhwolf.

  • Is there a way you can upload these in stereo please?

  • play in HQ or add &fmt=18

  • THE BEST OF THE BEST !!

  • Man Carl looks like he could party you under the table! I can't decide if it is better to enjoy all of this so much now or to have grown up with it. I wonder where Setzer was during this? I know he played with Carl Perkns, Joe Piscapo (oddly enough) and others at a different show without Lee and Jim. Perhaps it was their turn.

  • That was Frigging awesome !!!!!!!

  • @buttplug396 I really enjoyed watching people having fun

  • so frickin cool!

  • at 0:22 he says :i know my baby He's so round and fat :D

  • Awesome ! ♥

  • Absolutely brilliant

  • what is the title of the first song he does here?

  • Gone Gone Gone

  • is that slim jim from the straycats on drums???

  • Yeah, as well as Lee Rocker on bass.

  • yeaaaah he is slim jim on drums and Lee Rocker as the slap bass player!!

    So aweeeeesomeeee!!!

  • Gone Gone GOne makes me want to Dance with George! man He was SEXY and I am so glad that he came out of retirememnt after this.. If this haddent happened I don't think would would have heard from him again....

  • Just a dream team on stage here, and full cedit to Dave Edmunds, for helping to set it all up.....remember it being shown on channel 4 in the early eighties...for Gods sake, bin the rubbish they are showing and reshow this!!

  • It was ITV on a program called Cue the Music.

  • yeah, what a crew, just found out carl perkins existed about a month ago, been enjoying these vids ever since, can't understand how he's not halfway famous. this is great stuff.

  • he's pretty famous here in the us...

    you must be a youngblood...

but if you dig this....you have great taste in music..

elvis, johnny cash, jerry lee lewis and carl perkins were the first fab four from sun records..

    they changed the world!

yea, what a line up on this vid!

  • This is something that money can not buy.

    That`s IT!

  • Great to hear George Harrison playing his guitar "solo" at 1.15...fabulous clip.I remember seeing a very young Carl Perkins on The J.Cash Show;so it's great to see Roseanne on stage too.10/10.

  • A song that never made me feel anything, sounds here absolutely POWERFUL!! Long live to 50's Rock and Roll. Greetings from Spain.

  • WOW!!!!! this is the realy beatifull music.

  • Anybody notice that George played Scotty Moore's solo

  • My favorite musical tribute show EVER. So many brilliant artists.

    Dig the young Rosanne Cash!

  • Just beautiful!

  • WOW!!!! What a gig. Thanks for these axis! Can't get much better than this...."yeah, go cats" ...... love from Spain xx

  • Carl cried at the end of the show, he was so glad to have these guys with him

  • Carl Perkins had a pretty rough life. Considering that and all he accomplished and all those he inspired I'd call him amazing. He was the genuine article and this was a party. I was watching the DVD and during the medley Clapton had a solo. Harrison noticed the camera and within a second his guitar was out of the way so they could get a good look at Eric. That's a class act. No wonder he got along so well with Mr. Perkins.;-) This is the best DVD I'll ever own.

  • Carl was a wonderful man, and he shan't be forgotten.

Nice comments from serpico56 and martinaxman.

    Cheers !

  • great video and great Carl

  • One of the greatest, happiest rock n' roll performances ever filmed, and the very best version of Blue Suede Shoes I've ever heard. Carl Perkins' enthusiasms here took everybody on that stage to a new level. Carl, Eric, George, and Ringo have never sounded better!

This entire concert is now out on DVD and it is a MUST-HAVE for any fan of early rock n' roll. Buy it without hesitation!

  • BRILLIANT -

  • Now this how you bring the house down. WOW

  • I mean- see how thrilled all those superstars are to be up there onstage with The Man? He wasn't under-rated to those who know. He was a master.

  • Well said.

  • Carl was so under rated. he was there doing this stuff before Elvis. Elvis covered a lot of Carl's early work.

  • ehehh. Carl was under-rated only by the absolutely clueless.

  • Elvis never cut in on Carls time, only released Blue suede shoes on a single in late 56, Carl was injured in an auto accident and unable to perform during the storm of this music in april 56. and his act never really recovered.

  • George certainly knows those old licks!

  • Kids in the 50's would spend hours gettin' those licks down.

  • Who IS that guy with the tambourine dancing?? Somebody from Duran Duran Duran?

  • Rosanne Cash

  • It's Roseanne Cash, Jihnny Cash's daughter.

  • yea i believe she's from his first marriage

  • Througout better in all aspects of music ,but not so good looking as E.

  • ålnkåhän päissään?

  • man the best 1950 to 1959 the best music wish id beeen born around the time thanks for posting this

  • yes, the best music up to 1959 --then the beatles popped up and turned it all into shit

  • love this music.rock&roll allnite long.

  • Who cares what they look like?

  • It`s popes job

  • this wasn't the first time Clapton played with Perkins. He was an inspiration to Eric growing up also.

  • One of the few videos of Carl utilizing his good friend Lee Rocker. Who is one of the few true rockabilly guys around.

  • FANTASTIC ROCKABILLY !!!!

  • Carl Perkins is really the best rockabilly man

  • Day=amn!

    GOOOOOOOOD stuff, Man :)
