  • Absolutely brilliant experiment. Bike helmets are dangerous, giving cyclists a completely false sense of safety. They may help in a standing fall, but even manufacturers do not claim they have any effect at all in a collision. Drivers will tend to pass closer to helmeted riders increasing the likelihood of them being hit. Helmets are promoted by the motor industry to discourage cycling, not by cycling safety groups.

  • what a fuckin retaaarrrd!

  • Hmmm

very poor clutch control & little awareness of vehicle footprint.

    Driver fail

  • Giro helmet: $200

    Pajamas from Walmart: $15

    Piece-of-crap pickup (used): $4000

Coronary bypass on fat redneck: $75,000

  • Wow i cant believe how stupid this guy is.

  • That guy is in his payamas hahahaaaa

  • Probably the WORST explanation on the subject I've found so far!!!

  • What a knob!!

  • I can not appreciate waste of an item for nothing that some people would very much like to own. In the other hand i learned something. A bicycle helmet can not protect a person having his head out of the sewer hole. (it actually will protect in that case but this experiment fools us)

  • At 0:50 30,000 viewers realized how stupid you are. The rest of the video and the waste of a Giro helmet became completely superfluous...

  • Put some freakin shoes on.

  • 'redneck style' experiments are rarely scientific.

  • Isn't there a law against driving a pickup in your pajama bottoms with no shoes on? There should be! But you do have to give this guy credit for knowing how to line up that helmet so it comes in contact with the wheel. Obviously helmets are effective because where are you gonna find someone to do a good job of lining up YOUR helmet, especially if you're wearing it?

  • this guy deserves an award

  • Raises some interesting questions about safety:

    1) Should a guy in PJ's be aloud to drive a car?

    2) Should a guy who can't work a clutch be aloud to drive a car?

    3) Shouldn't this guy have just put the helmet hard against the back tire to start with?

    and the big number 4)

Should this retard have been aloud to remove his helmet to start with!?!?!

  • now put your head in it and do it again

  • @suave230 hahaha and he proves nothing.

  • wat a nice crucnching sound that made

  • Nice clown pants, did you just take off the over-sized shoes before shooting this video?

  • learn to drive. stupid american

  • Nice PJs Bubba! The helmet performed exactly as designed. This proves nothing (about cycle helmets).

  • and point of this video is?

-"dont put your head under the 2tone car,UNLESS you wear a helmet?"

and btw-this type of helmets are only for city driving,ff helmets are recommended for superior pumping action, like dh,xc or fr.

    be cool,and see ya!

  • This type of helmet isn't made for city driving, it's designed for long distance high speed riding.

  • @xtelevisionset To the best of my knowledge, cycle helmets of this type are designed for low speed impacts on a flat surface, suggesting that in high speed impacts or impacts involving a third party (particularly a motor vehicle) they are operating outside their design parameters. Whether or not they will help is another matter entirely, but as far as design goes I have to disagree.

(I acknowledge that most tests also involve shaped anvils, but they are far less effective in those scenarios.)

  • That helmet is about $150+

  • Piece of styrofoam... yes and what do you think that is inside the motorcykle helmets...??

  • And what do *you* think is the outer layer of motorcycle helmets made of? And why don't they have the same shape like bicycle "helmets"?

  • Comment removed

  • bicycle helmets are designed for crash at the average speed of 17mph... motorcycle helmets are designed for crash at the average speed of 100mph.... and cyclist won't fancy wearing heavy helmet like motorcycle helmet.... if you wear a bicycle helmet riding a motorcycle,, that's the real bullshit + extremely stupid ...

  • *i* think that the outer layer of motorcycle helmets is made of plastic... I have 3 motorcycle helmets 2 of them made of plastic and styrofoam. But.. i ment that the Biccycle helmets are nessesary not BULLSHIT! (peace ;))

  • it's called damage mitigation... try doing a headplant with bare skull onto concrete and you'll see how much damage some styrofoam can reduce.

  • The presence of a helmet doesn't compensate for the lack of brain underneath it.That's all I can say.

  • however most people don't put there heads underneath a moving car

  • A primo mattino non sa che cazzo fare, mettiti almeno le scarpe quando esci di casa.

  • not safe

  • How bad of a drive can you be?

  • That's a pretty expensive helmet too. What an idiot.

  • Absolutely brilliant application of scientific method! Somebody get this man a job with NASA. Oh, but tell him not to wear his pyjamas to the interview.

  • dang it!

  • The thing is, many people (even cyclists) think that bike helmets will save them in a collision with a car.

You must have heard that "85% of head injuries" statistic before, right?

  • A scientific test from a fat guy in a clown suit. Nice.

  • When I think of scientific authority, I think of a barefoot redneck in Zubaz driving a pickup truck. I'll never wear a helmet again.

  • Embarrassing, just freaking embarrassing.

  • Thanks BSNYC for boosting the viewing of this video ten fold.

  • what is the lesson here? that a helmet wont protect my skull from being crushed under the wheels of a truck? who benefits from this lesson?

thanks, ignorant redneck - your informative video will surely rock the foundations of cycling safety.

  • thi is not a good test. you have to have a bone-hard skull-shaped frame (like a coconut or something) inside the helmet, to support it. then, run that over and see if the bone cracks. thatll be a good test.

  • This is truly an age of empiricism, when a man as stupid as this one is able to perform such a sophisticated experiment. Bravo sir. I especially enjoyed the part when he placed the helmet in the middle of the car's length, instead of simply in front of the rear tire. Brilliant.

  • dude, put on a pair of pants...

  • maybe even a pair of shoes?

  • Maybe the Guy ran over had a PARTRIDGE FAMILY shirt on,,,,, and the driver was doing him a favor!!!!................ Just kidding LOL.

  • if the guy actually got his head ran over he could have survived. the truck wouldnt have applied the same ammount of pressure at high speed.

  • errr.. what?

  • No, what you mean is it would spend less time on top of the helmet. The same amount of force would be applied to the helmet, it would just be applied for less time.

In fact, a truck at speed might do more damage because the forward speed of the tire as it hit the helmet would do crush damage in addition to the vertical weight of the truck.

Obviously, bike helmets are not made to support the weight of a car. They are designed for low speed impacts.

  • Well I could have told you that was going to happen.

  • he might have a head of steel

  • this video made me laugh for some reason...something about the crunch it made...

  • you had it up and down, must have been a short person...lol....try it on it's side next time BATMAN~~~~
