how are the movements of the white pieces recognized?

There are actually magnets under each piece, so the computer knows where the pieces are, therfore, the robot knows where to go.

still doesn't answer how it knows what piece it is. unless of course it has different magnetic strength detectors, which it may.

Granted there are better ways of doing this (I used to own a board that had an electromagnet in the bottom that would move the pieces), I still have to give it 5/5 stars for being so damn young ^.^
