  • My old Harmony sounds better than any of those pieces of junk, and it only cost me $15

  • Very boomy lovely sound. I personally prefer the tighter bass notes of the legendary D28

  • or maybe it you blugrasssingingman, the new martins are overpriced and junk , they last made some decent ones in the early 90's period. come on who's on my side here

  • or a 1997 yamaha LL-ll ,the question is have you only play the cheap lamaited yamaha's it so thats why you don't know shit about your guitars son.

  • hey crosspicker, you run you mouth, alot but how old are you son, ibeen trading playing flatguitars for 16 years now. the new martins are junks, except for the hd28vintage. ones. or the overpriced ones that cost that because of ricky skaggs name or andy griffth or who ever. so try to play a 1978 335 that has some age on it, and it will drown out one of this late 2000's straight d-28,,ok tough guy

  • This is an HD28 - NOT a D28, and yes there is a difference

  • You can get good and bad guitars with any brand. But C.F. Martin makes the best flat picking, bluegrass rythymn guitarsout today period. Yes there are custom builders who make guitars just as good and they sound just as good. But, every one of them are striving for that "Pre-war" sound that Martin is famous for. Bottom line, if you want something that sounds like a Martin, then buy a Martin. You won't see any respectible bluegrass artist on stage with a yamaha.

  • @TheCrosspicker I've seen several respectable bluegrass musicians on stage with Yamaha's, and other brands. J.P. Cormier for one, he's endorsed by them. Old Yamaha's and the handmade ones are right up there with Martin's, infact after playing a D-28 and my old yamaha, I like the tone and playability of mine better.

  • @bigdjindustriez It's probably because it's aged and played in. Give the Martin a chance to do the same. Even if it's old, it depends how much it's been played and "Opened Up".

  • @popoaggie Yes it is aged and well played (27 years old actually, also have a 33 year old one). However the brand new handmade Yamaha's sound MUCH better than new Martin's, and some old ones. But it's all a matter of preference.

  • @bigdjindustriez LOL That is a joke. You must be smoking crack,or drinking Obama KOOL AID. To what crosspicker said, they use Yamaha at fest. so nothing happens to their Martins in Jam sessions. I don't care how old a Yamaha is. It will always be junk compare to a Martin new or use. Maybe it is Obama bath water you're drinking.

  • @bluegrasssingingman Wow, trying to turn music into some kind of politics debate (I don't care about 'Obama' by the way, I'm Canadian). Just about any good guitarist can tell you that the new Martin's are garbage.

  • @bigdjindustriez You are a Canadian French Fagot. For one you never played a Martin,or you wouldn't be running your mouth. The new Martins are built even better, and the sound can't be beat. So shut up and go let your farther fuck you in the ass some more.

  • @bluegrasssingingman That's a real good piece of spelling there Chief. I've played plenty of Martin's, new and old. The new D-28CW's are amazing, so are the HD-35's.. but anything below that is nowhere near as good as it used to be.

  • @bluegrasssingingman I play bluegrass professionally and im sorry but bigdjindustriez is right. Most of the new Martins are junk, they may be a few good ones. Now the older ones thats a differnt story. Our guitar player has 7 martins but his 1955 D-18 will peel paint off the wall and his 73 D-28 will rattle any mans gut. He also has a custom built Mike Long guitar. Alot of pickers are endorsing/playing guitars built by other builders today like Collins,Mike Long, bourgeois, Wayne Henderson.etc.

  • @Banjerman07 You are so full of shit. Collings is junk, and has no vol. in a setting. Martins are still a great guitar, and still the greatest made. Martin are still the number one flat picking guitar and still the #1 used.

  • @bluegrasssingingman I own a 1978 HD-28 Martin and a Dan Tyminkski Martin..,Played a Collings D-1A in VARNISH and it blows them away as far as "CUTTING THROUGH THE MIX"...It's a banjo killer...And it was a NEW GUITAR..Can't imagine what it will be like in a few years..

  • @SteveGaines Well you must own the only good one made. Nothing about them impress me. My HD-28 and HD-16R LSH has driving power and vol. Collings will match.

  • @bluegrasssingingman I didn't say just ANY COLLINGS...Play a COLLINGS finished in VARNISH.. Myself and the 2010 National Banjo Champion compared one to 10 PRE-WAR D-18 At IBMA last year...Blew them away...Mahoganoy sides and back...That thing sounded like it had a compressor on it...Ever note just "SNAPPED"..

  • @bluegrasssingingman This is getting entertaining! How about I just say here that my 1984 Santa Cruz Model D is better than any Martin or Collings ever built?

    LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It is though, no joke.

  • @wesmantodd1974 LOL Santa Cruz is better then a Collings.

  • @bluegrasssingingman I'm glad you agree!

I had to have some frets replaced and a new set up done by a guy in Dallas, the maker of Perretta guitars, he said himself, "thing sounds better than any Collings I've ever heard!"

  • @wesmantodd1974 I believe it. Santa Cruz is a great guitar. Collings has no driving power to cut. They don't have enough deep end for my taste.

  • @bigdjindustriez One of the dumbest things I've ever done was sell the D18 GE that I used to own....

  • look i have a 1998 yamha LL-11 that can keep up with any guitar guys i will be puting on youtube very soon. it is a cannon

  • @bluegrassman776 That is a joke, and you are a joke to say this.

  • @MaurysMusic: which is the lowest price for you ??? martin guitars are not so lowest price!! but too expensive..

  • A little bit sad to show an expensive guitar and make it sound like any other C&W guitar... Even a Yamahah would sounds great the way the Martin is played in this vid.

  • @Pan3405

What's with all the yamaha bashing these days? I own a high end yamaha and it sounds just as good or better than a standard d-28. But I agree that this guitar could sound a lot better in the right hands. I wonder how much this machine costs?

  • Sounds killer! Maybe better than my HD28...

  • I haven't heard a bad sounding Martin ever unless, they installed a pick up. A pick up kills all dread guitars. Collings will try coping this guitar to.

  • This is one of the best sounding martins i have heard in a while!

  • If they have it in stock, Maury's is perhaps the fastest shipper I have bought musical supplies from. Absolutely outstanding service!

  • @BobDaniel56 ill never have a guitar shipped to me ... you dont even get a chance to play it before you buy it . and every guitar is different ive been to a guitar center once where i couldnt find one great sounding martin .... so i wont take a chance on ordering one from anybody unless its a custom shop straight from martin
