I am convinced that Bach was an alien from a far away star system many times more evolved than our own species, who travelled here to blow our minds. What he accomplished in his life was utterly inhuman...
Ugh. The sound quality is demonstrated when the woodwinds are at the forefront. You can hear the aliasing in the sound, the low, low resolution. It sounds like old video-game shit...Try 3:07 or so.
CDs are trash when compared to vinyl but MP3s(!) are the worst. There are no depth, warmth, or fine edges with MP3s.
But alas, people don't care about quality now-a-days! Who cares, right?! They want it CHEAP (OR EVEN BETTER, FREE!), EASY, and NOW!

too bad, I love that Imperfect phrygian cadence (flat IV to V) decorated by the first flute, however it seems to be missing the note that the flute should trill above the main pitch.. thanks for posting !
The wonderful thing about Bach´s music is the composition´s complexity. Not everyone has the sensitivity to feel every single note, and its relation with the other notes in the composition. Is a fully understanding between melody and beauty of a statement implicit in the movement.

What astonishes me about Bach Concertos is that each voice can stand on its own. Each is beautiful, all together add up to more than the sum of the individual parts.
Bach was a frighteningly intelligent man and is an example of how to do Art.
Thanks for posting this. I'm using it as a good example of the piece for my fellow musicians as we work towards a performance of it soon. It looks like the image is reversed. All the violinists bowing with their left hands. Beautiful sound, beautiful interpretation. The video image is compressed horizontally and makes everyone look too tall and thin. Oh well, better than short and fat!
All this conversation or the battling between Rap and Baroque is really pointless. Whoever started it should end it! Come on they are totally different genre of music and thus are not in a position to be compared. After all those recognised as classics has once definitely been popular, and those that are popular needs to be tested through time to become the classics. Bach is tested through time. Rap, well it awaits to be tested. But I am sure there will be some classics in rap in the future!
this is baroque music, who cares about any other kinds of music right now, this is all we need, I love the DOORS but if I had to chose, I would rather listen to baroque music than anything in the world,
good music is good music....if it mean something to you and move something in you, it's no matter what kind of music it is.... i hate this pseudo intelectual pride which judges everything which are not fit in its narrow minded world....people are different...but always worth the same....so music is different too but also worth the same if it mean something to somebody....
I don't really know how the conversation of Rap arose on this page, and am not really interested in looking up how. However I have to agree with the statement that not all rap is bad. To say that all rap uses profanity is akin to stating that all classical music soft violin music; it simply isn't the case. Much classical music is fairly simple and sexual in it's making, some rap is musically complex with genius harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic sounds, and intensely complex lyrical ideology.
quite often we judge a music, by what we hear initially without trying to see if something deeper exists beneath the surface. I was often the target of insults earlier in life due to my intense love of classical music. and i too disliked rap with a passion, seeing it as nothing but insulting to women and minorities and violently motivated. But after listening to such RAP songs like, Counting Stars, Think Different, Lady Brown, and Aruarian Dance by Nujabes. Escape Earth and Leaving by Diverse
I began to realize that Rap could be an artistic medium and was not simply ghetto music full of filthy lyricism and repetitive nonmusic, but the product of a creative soul attempting to reach for heaven with the meager resources he had been given. Go listen to some music without judging and seek to enlighten your mind instead of insulting what you don't understand. IF you look hard enough sometimes you find buried treasure.the nicest diamonds aren't always found in the mall, some are Underground
Rap music has no value. I won't say it's not music, because "music" has so many valid definitions. However, Bach died in 1750 and people still discover him today. He earns his pedestal with each new youngster who hears his undying genius.
Wicked. I can't imagine how a human being could create such amazing pieces. Just listen to Bach's works with attention; there is so much going on. His comosition skills are top-notch, but specially in the Brandemburg Concertos IMO.
I just sit and listen and wonder how could someone come up with all of this. The counterpoint is mathematically perfect and it is extremely beautiful at the same time. Everything lines up beautifully with its own melody that still is a part of the larger puzzle. Did he know he was doing all of this? I am sure he did not realise the impact that his music would have on the world. On top of that, this interpretation is REALLY good and I have heard lots of versions, but this is one of my favs.
@Jagguar20 Maybe... just maybe, he wasn't a human being and instead an angel from the godless heavens who came to ease the pain of us mere mortals. However it's only a theory in the early stages of construction (so don't quote me on it). :)
I think 99 % of all people are afraid of classical music. their undevelloped brains and ears can't handle it. Back in the 16th 17th 18th century people had no other choise. The people back than where way more creative and musical. Come one give me a break men rap and trance etc is fuckin bullshit. Rap is no music genre. I think everyone can make nice sounding logical lines. To compose true music is a different story. Thats blood sweat and tears and talent wich a lot of people don't have.
you are correct that most modern music is uncreative and unmusical but that certainly doesn't mean all classical music is as fresh and exciting as mr j.s. bach. many classical pieces are too slow and tedious or the loud passages are very jarring. there are examples of fine and poor quality in every genre.
Yeah thats true but at least they where musical. Maybe not that good but they made music and thats what its about. Nowadays people don't make music, they just learn a couple of chords and put them togheter and voila you have a new hit. Thats rediculous. Music doesn't have to be complicated but sometimes I thing it just gets too less musical. Don't call it music than. Pure and good music mostly gets rejected. I can make a pop album in one day but true music takes years of playing and composing.
Dude - I have eyes to see with. I've lived near a ghetto. Let me tell you: the people in this video and the people that listen to them ARE NOT THE ONES GUNNING EACH OTHER DOWN! AND, i hear the disgusting lyrics - where the word "woman" is never used and BITCH ALWAYS IS. Do you really think that there's no connection? Really? It's you that are blind to what rap "music" really is. It was good in the 80's. Now it's about killing cops and making pussy wet. It's for subhumans who shoot each other.
Yes, a lot of rap is utter crap. But the reason you're mistaken is that you're mistaking mainstream for underground rap. Popular rap music has a lot of stereotypes about women and stuff about violence in it, but most songs that praise that kind of thing is just marketing. And that music isn't the cause of violence, although it does reinforce stereotypes.
Gang violence comes largely from poverty, and most underground rap/hip hop is actually protest against such things, and the government.
Rap is 'music' written by people too lazy and untalented to create a melody. It's a regression to violent primitivism. It is the opposite direction of Bach.
To think that Bach created such tremendius variantion in his music with the limitations the barouge gave him fills me with the greatest admiration. He was a trrue genius
gawd bach makes the freakin most horrible music eva!!!!!! god have u guys ever heard of rap??????? hello???? wake up!! it's not the 18th century anymore!!
@TheSilhouette I disagree. Rap is the spoken word, i.e., poetry, and therefore very musical. Like recitative, like sprechstimme, and it can be done badly and commercially, or it can give meaning and value. Thus, it is the content/performer that make a work special and not the particular style of music.
And I'd rather see Rembrandt give a go on an Etch A Sketch than hear an unskilled musician play JS Bach
@bigmandrel Well said!!! Each genre of artistic expression can be both composed and performed (and recorded...) either well or not so well - and in suitable contexts, each type of art can be perfectly acceptible and edifying!! (well, with notable exceptions, such as flatulism-based entertainment, lol!!)
@TheSilhouette as much as I don't like rap, I don't agree. it's too different to compare. people get stuck on a view that the music they like is the only real music, but what is music? compared to visual art, classical paintings can be a display of raw skill and observable beauty (like this music), abstract paintings can be an exploration of form and colour for contemplation (like progressive music), and advertisement animations are meant to be catchy and fun (like pop). very different planes

it is a cultural expression of a large group of people that grows up in bad conditions and is created and labeled by people like you..
