The suggestion is to use Turkey Syrup (which has a specific taste and thickness that is different from other molasses brands). But if you can't get that in your area, use a mix of corn syrup and molasses. We've had better results with that than simply using molasses.

I don't know why the recipe says to substitute Turkey Syrup with Molasses.
Turkey Syrup is a BRAND of MOLASSES...and a key, if not the most important ingredient IN Shoo Fly Pie!
Don't leave it out!
Turkey Syrup = A BRAND OF MOLASSES.
