Oxycodone IS NOT heroin! it is synthesised from thebaine whereas diacetylmorphine is from morphine. It is slightly stronger than morphine when taken orally making it ideal for long term care ie cancer patients etc but when injected in an accute care setting it is only as potent as morphine. Also people in this docu seem to be addicted to the act/ritual of smoking it when it is very limited in its potency by this route due to its sensitivity to heat. For people who arn't happy, all they have to do is take some oxy and they are happy, that's why most people need to take more. Weed is addicted. It releases dopamine and conditions you to want it. It may not be physically addictive. Heroin happens to release much more dopamine in a more direct way, hence the stronger psychological addiction. Its physical addiction arises from down regulation of opioid receptors. Remember, dopamine is the chemical of "wanting," not "liking" or "pleasure." That means people will do things that release dopamine even if they don't like it.

Actually WITH him with my hand on his chest praying when he expired, and I still didn't understand addiction fully until I became addicted to OXY due to a chronic medical problem. Oxycodone IS NOT heroin! it is synthesised from thebaine whereas diacetylmorphine is from morphine. It is slightly stronger than morphine when taken orally making it ideal for long term care ie cancer patients etc but when injected in an accute care setting it is only as potent as morphine. Also people in this docu seem to be addicted to the act/ritual of smoking it when it is very limited in its potency by this route due to its sensitivity to heat. Possible bio availability of 10-15%,big waste!

Weed is addicted. It releases dopamine and conditions you to want it. It may not be physically addictive. Heroin happens to release much more dopamine in a more direct way, hence the stronger psychological addiction. Its physical addiction arises from down regulation of opioid receptors. Remember, dopamine is the chemical of "wanting," not "liking" or "pleasure." That means people will do things that release dopamine even if they don't like it.

continued- I was with my brother in-law when he died of a cocaine OD in 1989. Actually WITH him with my hand on his chest praying when he expired, and I still didn't understand addiction fully until I became addicted to OXY due to a chronic medical problem. (220 to 260mgs a day for 2+ years). Reading so many lame comments I realize that unless YOU are addicted you cannot, and don't, understand addiction. It is Hell beyond your wildest imagination. I feel ya, there are some things that can't be put into words. Especially the withdrawal... whenever I hear someone compare it to the flu, I just kinda shake my head in wonder. Never had a flu that left me wide awake for 7 days in a row, unable to hold still for any of it.
I still believe in legalization though, because as much as addiction sucks (understatement), prohibition hasn't caused that to change, all while making addiction even harder to live through.

Instead of insulting my "Praying" you should realize that I've had EMT training and when all else has been tried Praying is all you got left. Nalaxone should be freely available to anyone who wants to keep it available and all opiate addicts should have it on hand. In my Brother In-Law's case it wouldn't have helped though. He OD'd on injected Cocaine...

I guess it depends. I used to smoke a lot when I was i high school, but stopped because it was having some negative effects. After that, if I smoked a bowl while on dope, I felt as if it was overpowering my opiate high. But I know a lot of people who also love the combo.
