  • [clap clap clap]

  • This is better I think (Venezia images with Vivaldi) /watch?v=OzGYOS-wnq8

  • better then hearing the mario theme for the 90 millionth time.

  • I had an Old Canoscan Working by my Plus! Imac Making Music.

  • At 0:27 scanner was like "Uh, i'm done with this."

  • @Mikolay1995 hahahaha

  • Does this break the scanner or is it usable? The same question goes to floppy disk drives, do they still work?

  • @HemaZev with scanners, they don't care. It's just a matter of heat with the carriage motor and wear on the belt..

  • the glorious sounds of vivaldi on tech that's just relaxing

  • this is very nice :D

  • @zeeman674 You know that almost all servers are running linux/unix. It is an faster and more stable OS then Windows

  • Hooray for something other than Fur Elise! :)

  • lmao the rabbits in the cellophane grass. nice touch!

  • Omg, why can't my scanner do that? XD

  • @tiara733 It could, if you programmed it to do so.

  • The decoration on it is awesome!!! LOL

  • *chuckle* Great job and I love the addition of the easter grass + bunnies to expand the whole spring motif

  • linux guys again. xD nerds.

  • Whats that green shit on top of it? o.O

  • @DJmenlol Some kind of decoration I guess, little birds in their nests and all that...Lol

  • That's good :)

If you can convert midi files to play on this scanner (well, "play" I guess) you could get a whole orcehstra of obselete scanners and printers together.

  • @Shtanto someone should definitely make an entire orchestra, like a room filled 100% with this stuff, hard drive speakers too, like that radiohead remix but lots more and louder stuff!

  • wow!

  • coool!

  • lol!

  • i have the same scanner as u :-)

  • this is hilarious I love it. If only HP put this into the scanner rom...

  • nice

  • I like the bunnehs on top - nice touch!

  • knowing that everybody is fed up with "for Elise" ((See more info section), how long does it take to get fed up with this one ? then , is it necessary to have a tune with all the electronic devices we use. I would be interested in a SILENT one ... starting with the scan !!

  • Bunnies!

  • Yeah!!!!!!!

  • did u can make winter

    it's my faforite

  • xd lol

  • ma... che cosa...

  • Douro's right: it's a built in easter egg the HP guys put in there for laughs. Just send the right commands and notes, and off it goes.

It was mentioned in an article about the 4c in the HP Journal. Intrigued, I hacked it with SANE, realised it wasn't an april fool's joke, and decided to put up the code for download. Thanks for trying it out! :)

  • Since nobody seems to know anything about it:

This music is created by controlling the stepper motor. By changing the speed it moves, you can create different frequencies, allowing you to make music with it.

  • Yeah! Fuck Für Elise! Go Vivaldi!

  • that's what I call electronic music lol:))

  • Does anybody knows how to do that... i mean, not only in this scanner but on floppys and tesla coils!!!

  • lmao

  • There is an undocumented command in the control language for these scanners which allows you to play music on them.

  • It was awesome

  • Interesting... Is there a way you can make the scanner carret move in certain ways for certain time, like producing notes sounds? Are you plying with the scanner driver?

  • This is one of the awesomest things ive ever seen!

  • how the fuck you do this? i want to heard that when am scanning!!! LOL

  • Brilliant! :D

  • keeeeeeewl !!!!

  • That's fuckin geek, I love it, awesome!!

    Open source FTW!!

  • Hahaha GREAT!!! :D A very very creative Idea! I like it, because i allways thought that the sound of a working scanner indeed sounds harmonic.

  • Comment removed

  • I think it is some easter grass (like you would put in an easter basket) and some rabbits, to get the spring theme going.

  • I think the rabbits mean this is an easter egg, Scanjet 5P playing Ode to Joy by pressing the button while plugging it is its easter egg.

  • both ridiculous and hilarious at the same time! lol

  • x) why does the scaner moves xD? hilarious xD

  • it's dancing :D

  • Damn! I'm beginning to think that computers are more intelligent than I thought. And they used to say a machine would never compose a song. XD

  • awesome! i just stumbled upon this whole realm of music created by alternate technologies. Win!

  • just hold press the scan buton and then turn on the scan... and that is! is a test mode for the hardware, many of the scans can do it just try it!

  • capo!

  • WoW Cool. :-D

  • This is so cool and the Easter grass and bunnies just liven it up!

  • The movement of the scanning head almost reminds me of the movement of a bow across a violin. LOL

  • Link in info is broken, anyone got an archive? I'd like to know how this is done!

  • It's awesome they included a peeps audience :)

  • You all think it's a fake, but have you bothered to actually follow the link in the guy's intro text?

People have been doing this kind of thing with scanners, printers, and disk drives for years.

  • i must say im very impressed if this is real. I think the reason people think its fake is due to the speed and accuracy of the notes. More then one scanner?

  • your're cool Dude... in a certain kinda way !!! :P

  • nope, u can make music with stepper motots

  • Haha. I love the easter grass and bunnies to make it more "spring-like." Genius.

  • But? How? Now, I have seen majority scannrar that does musical mild to tell how one do? Wants to that face will can to do so also! Face perhaps cannot but I am such a as never gives up on therefore will I succeed! Wants to have one cool scanner: P cruel with one scanner that is musical!

  • Hmm, peripheral orchestra.

HP scanner singing the lead with a Commodore 1541 providing backup.

  • We need a C64 floppy to do some background beats too.

  • The 1541 is the floppy drive used with the C64.

  • LOL =)

  • How did you control the steppers? own written driver?

  • It's an easter egg.

  • Even better.

"is being controlled by linux to make music via a custom program"

    It's a driver!

  • swettttttttt

  • *sweats*

  • Very impressive! I was wondering if anyone figured out how to hack it for themselves. Maybe the included easter egg wasn't enough? That's pretty awesome.

  • whoa, cool!

  • haha :D

  • Nice Sound :D

  • this and fu elise ... best.. video.... ever!!!

  • Get your reading skills right, dumbass. He said this video and the other video of the ScanJet that plays Fur Elise are the best videos ever.
