  • Fuckin' A. Been trying to find this band for years. All I could remember of the video was the guitar slide, the singer's haircut and the melody is similar to "Because the night" by 10,000 Maniacs. I was convinced it was The Strawbs. I found a list of every band that has ever been on Mtv. After going through the "A's" I said fuck that and went to the S's to see if a band had a similar name. Funny thing is, after all that I am kinda let down. Good song but no longer grabs me. All that for nothing,

  • Yes, what a shame. I was in Aus in the late 90's and The Sherbs to discover the Sherbs had been completely ignored. Folks knew who Sherbet was - but not The Sherbs. It's weird how some Aussie bands just seemed to get shunned when they make an attempt to have success in the US Market. Similar to Billy Thorpe and Children of the Sun. At least that was my perspective. Someone said they also were called Highway Men(?) at some point for a brief period. Braithwaite is an awesome vocalist.

  • This song reminds me of my high school days , whatever happend to these guys? Not to long ago I found this album of theres.

  • Do a search on youtube... type in: MTV MUSIC VIDEOS FROM 1981 / 1982 ...you will find actual footage of early Mtv, when it originally aired, and one of the videos is We Ride Tonight! :D Mint Mtv video!

  • GOOD SONG! Great song! I just bought this song on i-tunes too...

I just discovered The Sherbs, and they are amazing!

  • God damn it! What the hell happened to MTV?! I remember this video so well. What memories . . . Thank you for posting this.

  • aussome song, gotta love it...and real great video, every australian should listen to this tune...its pretty amazing...cheers mates!!

  • Something about the guitar made me think it was Red Rider, so for 30 years I have been waiting for Red Rider to finally release this song. What a dumbkoff!

  • @dmoraga Don't feel too bad. It was actually not a bad guess. After all, this song DID rock harder than pretty much anything else that The Sherbs did, and that awesome slide guitar solo in the intro is DEFINITELY reminiscent of the one in the middle of Red Rider's classic "Lunatic Fringe." Daryl Braithwaite has such a raw, soulful voice full of such emotion that I had thought that this was a black American band. I couldn't believe it when I found out they were a white Australian band! :-D

  • When ever this song came out on MTV, I would drop whatever I would be doing. I forgot who did it. Something about he guitar made me think it was Red Rider, so for 30 years I have been waiting for Red Rider to finally release this song. What a dumbkoff!

  • I loved this song the very first time I heard it. I always thought they could have used this song in The Lost Boys movie. It has that certain "dark feeling" to it.

  • @hockeyron1968 Totally 100% agree. Would have added to the soundtrack and to the movie's underlying youthful rebellious theme, and probably would have made this song a huge hit upon re-release (a.k.a. Steve Winwood's similarly first-time-overlooked "Valerie"). They missed a bet with this one.

  • The closest KNOWN band probably would be Huey Lewis and the News, these guys could give 'em a run for the money, The album I had however, the hit singles were still the strongest songs, so that's probably why they didn't make as big a splash as they could have

  • KILLER song and cool video.

  • This was one of my favorite videos on MTV back when MTV actually played music videos. I bought the EP in the 80s and still have it. I think the audio and video quality are actually quite good for such a rare find. Thanks for posting it..

  • I remember this from when I was a kid. I loved this guy's voice. I can't believe I FINALLY FOUND IT. I always was looking for "The herbs". I finally was smart enough to look for lyrics I remembered. Thanks a lot!

  • Great to hear what Sherbet produced in the '80's as the Sherbs ... I really love their '80's sound and new direction in songwriting ...

  • great song ....one of the early MTV videos. back before MTV became "corporatized".

  • This video may be "poor quality," but it's better than nothing. I remember this song and video fondly. Thanks for posting it.

  • Remember seeing this Vid on MTV. The song might be Brathewaites crowning Glory. I purchased his CD, "The Horses?" based on the vocals & musicianship of the Sherbs 2 Albums (stateside). I'm surprised there are only 7 views (2/5/11) given his popularity in his native Australia.

  • @CaspianHawke Thanks for the comment. While Sherbet were HUGE in Australia in the '70s unfortunately The Sherbs could not recapture an audience in the '80s. This wasn't helped at all by the fact that Australian radio completely ignored their '80s output. The way they were treated was a disgrace. The Sherbs actually had more success in the USA than they did in Australia. The average Australian would have no idea this song even exists...seriously. I agree...this is one of DB's finest vocals.

  • @70s80sVidz YOU ARE THE MAN! I agree with all you stated. You obviously are knowledgeable about this amazing & obscure band because you are a true fan with all the facts you stated. Don`t worry about the clip you uploaded which you think is poor quality. It`s the only original MTV/VH1 original video available. I have only seen it a few times only to be removed due to copyright infringement every time within weeks of it`s uploading. So stupid, due to the potential aftermarket CD sales. Thanks!

  • @CaspianHawke THIS HAS GO TO BE THE SAME Daryl Braithwaite, WHO MADE THE ONE SONG BACK IN THE EARLY 90'S CALLED, "NEVER LET GO".... IT DID OKAY, {ON THE BILLBOARD CHART} BUT AFTER SO MANY RUNS, DROPPED OFF THE {BILLBOARD TOP 40} CHART....
