I am building my first 4X4 S-10 Blazer V8 conversion.. The truck is a 2-door already prepped for the V8.. The body just needs some rust repairs.. Other-wise, it's ready.:_) I am going to use the truck for plowing, towing a trailer for my hauling/deliveries business..Plus mudding on the weekends.:_)
@5tonjeep Awesome! My next one will be a 4x4 too, never done one of them before. I'm planning on doing a ZR2 pickup, will have a fuel injected vortec 350 since it's almost a direct swap and easy to keep emissions legal. Good luck with yours, be sure to take lots of pics!
what rad do you have in there you said a giffin rad and what electric fans are you running. nice truck bye the way. i'm have'in cooling problems with my 89 s-15.
This had an 86 corvette radiator. It didn't stay cool with the two little pushers, so I put in a puller from a ford taurus... very powerful fan. The griffin is what's in my current build. It's part number GRI-1-25271-X at summit racing and I am very happy with it. If you have an automatic trans, you'll probably want the version with a trans cooler. This one doesn't have one.
hell yea nice s10,,i got a 1986 s15 gmc starting to put 350 small block, vortec heads, thumper cam, intake 3000,and 2300-sruge3,,,90l-10 rearend with/3.73 limited slip short 1500 can't wait to get it running have some fun!!!!!
No problems that a hammer can't fix! You just need to pound it back a little if you use shorty headers, not a big deal at all. If the truck is a second generation, you shouldn't have to touch the firewall at all.
i know thats what most people tell me. thats what my dads been sayin for a year now lol im only 18, its hard to build a motor, (a v8 at that) when im still in school. We got an after market 421 block its just time to buy all the rotain parts lol my dads good friends with a guy that works at brodix so hopefully he can hook us up with a good set of heads
Exhaust... always fighting leaks! If you use the hedman shorties, take my advice and get the gaskets that are a bunch of really thin layers of aluminum! Advance auto sells them, they're a bit pricey, but well worth it. They are thick and crush as you tighten the header bolts. Cooling can also be a pain, I've learned to just buy nice radiators from the start to avoid fighting overheating later. Griffin makes a nice universal rad for under $200. Trans x-member usually takes some work, too.
@eroi53 Thanks! I sold this one a while back, and have built 2 for myself since then and one for my girlfriend. The black one in my other vids is my current weekend warrior, and I have a 97 with a fuel injected vortec 5.7 as a daily driver. Have to put some pics and videos together for that one, total sleeper! Keep me updated on yours, as well!
@eroi53 Not much at all. Just flatten the lip where the firewall meets the floorpan, and a little bit of hammering for the collectors if you use hedman shorties.
i got a 98 s10 with a 355 cid v8 a little under 400 horsepower and nitrous needs a paint job body drop and some 18 inch chrome wheels keep up the good work nice throttle response !
Good luck with it! I had a 305 in this truck for a while, not a bad setup at all. If you get a 5 speed truck and want to reuse the trans, make sure its an NV3500 and not a T5. If the truck came with a 4.3, it's an NV3500 trans.
Im workin on an 85... Soon to have a freshened up and pretty built 350... Only thing is im havin thoughts bout what to do for the drivetrain... U said u have a stock rear end rebuilt... did that last pretty good for u and what u runnin for gears? im thinkin ill only be pushin bout 450hp at the most...
I haven't broken one yet. Put a girdle on it, weld the axle tubes to the center housing, and put a nice locker in it and you should be fine. I was running 3.42 gears in this one. Good luck with your swap, link me to vids when it's done!
I think this one was a 91, I've built a few since then and it's hard to keep track. A 396 will take more fab work, big blocks are much wider and you may need to make your own headers and motor mounts. I stick with the small blocks for the simplicity! I had around $7k into this one, including the cost of the truck itself.
thanks you did an outstanding job very clean, not like tha hack jobs ive seen, ive seen pur dog-mess looks like you took ya and did things right the first time,im in the process right doing a 91 dime i hope it turns out as good as yours did............thanks for info on the song
This truck had a stock rear end, rebuilt with an auburn posi. Check out the video I just uploaded, called "V8 s10 build... number 3". That's my current build, and I used a ford 8.8" rear end in it. It fits the stock s10 leaf springs, but you need to get the driveshaft shortened. Also, if you want to use chevy rims on it like I did, you will have to get the axles redrilled to a chevy bolt pattern. Drop me an email if you have any other questions.
nice truck i have a 86 s10 that i just finished a motor for its a 11.5 to 1 383 with brodix heads and a 554 558 cam and speedpro pisions and a complete mallory ignition system its makin about 575 horse
Hey man, it looks like you did a pretty damn good job on your conversion. I noticed that you relocated the radiator forward a bit for clearance. Did you set the engine back at all? Do you have a TH350 or 700R4 trans? 7 5/8 rearend? Did you spray the paint yourself? It looks good. I have a '91 that I'm going to do a 6.0 treatment to, when the rest of the funds allow. Nice ride and video, especially after a pint of vodka!
Thanks for the compliments! I cut the core support a bit to put the radiator inside of it. The radiator is from a mid 80's vette. The motor was as far back as I could get it without hammering the firewall, really wanted to avoid butchering it. 7 5/8 rear end with an auburn posi. TH350 trans. I am injection and weber carb specialist in Germany
located in Stuttgart. Older cars need some additional protection against
the E10 fuel and E5 fuel these fuels contain aggressive ethanols and
this causes fuel system corrosion and engine wear. A good two stroke oil
contains certain additives to preventing these aggressive radical chemistry in modern fuel. I wish you some fun with your nice vintage car!

Thanks! Just used it for drag... with no sway bars it's worthless in the twisties! The headers are hedmans and I got them from summit.
