But, when those armies failed to push Israel into the sea, they also refused to recognize Israel, so that they could negotiate what to do with the displaced Palestinians. @asrafoo First of all you're not quite correct; France, The United Kingdom, The United States and The Soviet Union had a military occupation of Germany that lasted for 45 years.

Secondly, you are also correct because when Germany was re-united and Helmut Kohl made some noise about that land becoming German again, the world shouted him down but as you pointed out, probably within two more generations, Germany will be really agitating for the return of that land!

Don't be so sure that "it's the EU now." Helmut Kohl made some noise about regaining these eastward lands and within the next 50 years, I can just about guarantee that a new German "New Nationalism" will start to demand "just compensation."

Indeed, those 15.5 million and their descendants do make some noise about this quite regularly.
