  • Obviously Life Goes On, Come as You Are and Eighties sound similar but they're not identical. My favourite band of the 3 are The Damned but I think their song is the worst

  • hehehehehe Nirvana the thief !

  • nirvan come as you are intro ...

  • @BozilovDragan haha I just thought that myself! heard this song for the first time

  • If not for bands like Killing Joke ... all that derivative crap ( Grunge ) the came later would never have happened. Respect your betters ...

  • You guys are all on crack! Killing Joke was around before Cobain left his diapers. Pure geniuses. 80's rocked! I'll give a LITTLE hype to Nirvana by taking from here and there and creating their own style but that came in '90. Killing Joke...CBGB's... NY.....teenager. Rocked!

  • kurt never even heard of killing joke when he wrote it.......

  • killing joke may have created the opening riff which MAY have inspired Cobain (cant say for sure as he hasnt credited it and he usual is honest about his influences) but Nirvana used the opening riff to make one of the greatest songs ive ever heard where as this is nothing special imo

  • @somers16 Nirvana was/is aweful and the only reason they are still mentioned today is because fans and the media made an obsession over Kurts death, i remember back in the mid 90's they acted like his death was one of the seals of Armageddon being ripped off or something, they were barely around for 5 years and people acted like Cobain was David Bowie, idiots.

  • @hellchild65 The Beatles were around for 8 years...

  • @Ne062 but they actually made some descent music, once bob dylan introduced them to drugs that is :)

  • and i swear that i don't have a gun.........

  • @TheGXSoft ..hahahahah, divine wit and humour. If you find it , pull the trigger on the a**holes!

  • @jocksilver7 RAAAAINING BLOOOODD!!!! DIEEE IN PAIIN!!! ANGEL OF DEAATH!!! TO HEEELL AND BAAACK!! WRROAAARGH DEEEEEEAAAAATHH!!!!! MEEEETAAAL RUUULES (wtf did you say? i'm not english/amer. silver)

  • So what if KJ plagiarised Life Goes On? So what if Nirvana ripped off the pair of them? Plagiarisation is brilliant! If no one did this, then music would've drawn to a standstill before the Stone Roses and later on, Britpop.

What I HATE, is regurgitating music in the lame, limp wristed manner so prevalent these days.

  • ok uk

  • this sucks. plus they stole it from the damned.

  • This video capsulates that period well, in addition to it being a good song.

  • Fuck man its the same riff. whatever. I love music and I love guitars

  • @interpretop I say my old fruit: Killing Joke were a lot more popular than you realise. Fuck Cobain & his motley crew. We from the early eighties care less about Cobain and his shit bravado. Pity you. Ha ha..... Want some more sauce on that? Tosser.

  • @interpretop; your comment reveals more about you than KJ. The masses adore mediocrity.

  • Scottedio= the common poser faggot trying to get publicity.

  • Love this song so much

  • What does it truly matter where a guitar lick or drum beat is borrowed or not?

Musicians borrow from each other from the second they pick up their first instrument. You have to have influences in order to invent art. Art isn't created in a vacuum!

Killing Joke is a very underrated and talented band. I just wish they had tasted the success they deserved. They broke a lot of new ground.

  • I think this riff is very similar to that of The Damned in Life Goes On and as of Come As You Are is less like ... But still greats songs !

  • D'enfer les Killing Joke, fuck cubain !!!!

  • CUBAIN FAKE

  • I like this better than Come as you Are.

  • Just an amazing song - period !!

  • i love that killing joke says cobain ripped them off, when they stole this riff from The Damned! What hypocritical little faggots.

  • @UserUK201 which Damned track are you actually talking about. I know Geordie pretty well and have asked him about this riff, and he was very upfront with his answer. You tell me which Damned track, then I'll tell you where he really nicked it from.

  • @URturn2njoy , the HMV picturehouse in Edinburgh, it was brilliant ! the support were shit though and i have no idea who they were cos none of us could read the sign they had up, lol, but KJ were amazing , they played Love Like Blood second and from then on it was brilliant would see them again in a second ;)

  • i saw kj about 16 years ago in houston, now you do know the vocalist says he put a curse on kurt cobain, he saidit about 94 ish

  • Hahah, Geordie looks so New Wave. Cool video.

  • Cobain was some slacker out Seattle, better off dead than alive.

  • @ScotteDio kurt cobain was the biggest and best muscian and still is no one can beat him he was graet relise that

  • @ScotteDio Oh, go back to your Dokken records.

  • @bogslug No, thats for trendy people like you, that loves crap out of Seattle.

  • @ScotteDio First off, grunge was 20 years ago, and it was trendy for about 5 minutes before Gangsta Rap took control of the world. Secondly, Dokken is from Los Angeles.

Thirdly, your profile says you're a fan of 1980s New Wave and Punk... seriously, you need to do a little research, man. You apparently live in some strange world where a Cure fan would look down on a Nirvana fan for being too trendy. This does not compute... but I suspect a great number of things within your worldview don't.

  • @ScotteDio

id like to see who this dipshit scottedio thinks was a great musician

  • @ScotteDio

He likes the cure people. Pussy Music. Nuff said

  • @white12345a the Cure is far superior than bullshit bands like Nirvana. Kurt is dead!!! Great!! One less slacker hippy from Washington.

  • @ScotteDio wow you obviously dnt know what good music is what a fag lol

  • @Shafano I am proud combat vet. shut up & go to hippy slackerland, homo.

  • @ScotteDio Thank You!!!

  • Not to defend Cobain, but Life Goes On was released first, and Eighties is infinitely closer sounding to Life Goes On than Come As You Are sounds like Eighties.

I guess where I'm going is: you would have to be pretty shameless to accuse someone of plagiarism if the affected song is already a rip off of another song.

  • no se parece una mierda, solo pura casualidad,no creo k kurt copiara nada a nadie ,su musica era muy especial.................

  • Saw them last night, they were amazing ! This song was especially good

  • @andybhoy15 You lucky bastard, where did you see them? I love this song, even after all these years-- still fresh!!!

  • I remember this tune. Fucking awesome.

  • Killing joke took nirvana to court over the opening riff and won the case, then later on in their career they had dave ghroll drum on an album for them, :)

  • @dfa540 Did they?? I thought that the lawsuit was dropped after the sudden death of Kurt Cobain...

  • still the same old ? god nirvana were great kj are GOD please get a life y´all and JUST enjoy good music and yes it does looks like the jonas

  • Perfect song.I never listen this song in any radiostations ....Fucking hiphop! Genial band! <3

  • 1:11 looks like Nick Jonas lol

  • Nirvana version is the best !

  • This song was the theme song to the awful spin-off of "That 70s Show" called "That 80s Show".

  • not a big rip-off

and even if you wanna call it a rip-off, Come a you are is much better :P

  • Wow. Nirvana ripped these guys off.

  • I think if wasn't for Killing Joke, Nirvana would have become that popular.

They should have giving K.J. more credit.

  • total rip off

  • wait...i like this!

  • awesome

  • the baddass father of come as you are.....can see how it inspired cobain

  • The singer looks a lot like a skinny Gordon Brown

  • How funny is it that dave grohl played drums on their new album..dave grohl...shit stabber.

  • Its so soothing to know that you'll sue me...its starting to sound the same.

  • Comment removed

  • @longlivetherepublic1 These guys didn't write only this song...however, "come as you are" keeps repeating "come as you are"...;)

  • Who the fuck are these guys?

  • Is similar in a way to the song "come as you are" from Nirvana, but everyone has to admit that Nirvana can't even compare with this band. The success that the band from seattle has was unbeliebable and amazing

  • @4570046 Many music fans dont measure quality by success. I could care less if everyone likes nirvana's whiney shit. Killing joke was always cutting edge, nirvana is merely flavor of the moment for 90s kids. Like Ninja Turtles they are just attached.

  • Nirvana version is better ...

  • @maxime324 what do mean "version" it's a completely different song you tard!

  • i didn't know Conan Obrien wrote the original riff for 'come as you are' in the 80's

  • Sweet :)

  • Wow these guys totally ripped of Nirvana, jk just trollin!!!

  • About 1:14- 1:16 he looked like Billie Joe from Green Day circa 2004. Someone get the lawsuits out

  • hola... grim and dandy, fine and fancy free. I miss all the noise and dance. chow

  • awesome

u2 have never done and never will do anything in this league

and oasis are not good enuff to support these dudes,,,

    fucking shit hot ROCK

    WOW !!!!!!!

  • I love how this song is a big slap in the face to those that claim the 80s was just party-party-party!

yeah, maybe "par-tay" with the palm trees for one mid-summer and all the big hair & pop bands, but overall the 1980s was much more grim & dire. This song proves it. Killing Joke ROCK!

  • Was this song used as the theme song for That 80s Show or am I thinking of something else?

  • Aimee Goodling -- here's the funny thing -- I don't even know if you like this song-- haha, BUT it makes me think o you cuz we were in smart kid classes together -- ones we didn't even have to take, and you were "eighties perfect" to me -- not a puffball of preppy cute and not as overly wrought defining yourself against them as I was. You just seemed comfy in your beautiful skin, just cynical enough to not be mean and super smart. You were just one of those ppl I was happy to know back then.

  • Cobain didn't realise the riffs sounded alike until after the song was recorded. It wasn't plagiarism, and it wasn't intentional. You want to see actual plagiarism? Listen to Suicidal Tendencies "I Saw Your Mommy", then Puddle Of Mudd "She Hates Me"

  • Wow, awesome ad for Tom Barrett. Let's hear it for YouTube partners!

  • ZOMG, IM SO GOING TO BOOK 10 NIGHTS AT HOTELS.COM BECAUSE A YOUTUBE ADVERT GETTING IN THE WAY OF MUSIC TOLD ME SO.

  • 29 people will suffer greatly

  • Who here first heard this on That 80's Show?

  • @Wardenclyffeforever: Heard it waaaaaaaaaaaaay before then.

  • this is a crappy cover of come as you are

  • @aurlis2012 This was made in 1984 how can it be a cover of a song that came out much later?

  • @martinpwilliams lol i was joking mr williams

  • @aurlis2012 are u an idiot this song was written in 1984 and come as you are in 1992

    it's not a cover

    may cobain stole it

and as for the story killing joke sued nirvana for this reason but dropped down the file after cobains death

  • @aurlis2012 lol

  • @aurlis2012: The song is called "80's". The lyrics clearly state: "I'm living in the 80's." "Come As You Are" was released in '91. Obviously you weren't paying attention... not just to the song, but the look, style & even the TITLE of the video... Even the copyright was dated 1984. My God... half the politicians featured are either died during that decade like Egyptian president Anwar Sadat & The Ayatollah Khomeini from Iran. Please get your facts straight before you comment.

  • Living in the 80's > running in the 90's

  • Great job Conan on the bass!

  • see youtube.com/watch?v=wxZRQV7qQoM

  • @SamuelHellDay Your coment made my day. ahahah

  • co-blam totally ripped this off, he was "punk" theres no way he didn't realize he was stealing from a superior band!!!!

  • This was the type of sound fromToronto's industrial music scene in the mid-80's if you opted for something other than New Order's Blue Monday not to mention Diamond Dave & the VH Bros'. George Owellian release that year. Always thought England's Killing Joke would be the next big thing then Jesus & mary Chain came along and that pretty much influenced the Boston, Minneapolis and Seattle alt-crowd and we got Pixies, Soul Asylum, Soundgarten as a result

  • As far as the pixies issue goes, cobain did give them full credit and once said something to the effect that nirvana wasn't doing anything new. they were just copying the pixies. it happens. at least he had the humility to admit it. keep in mind that stylistically the pixies owe a lot to sonic youth. it goes on and on.

  • Nirvana mentioned the similarity whenever they could, so Killing Joke probably got publicity out of it. WIN WIN!!

  • @barty567 That is called theft sir. No matter how you spin it to protect that whack ass nirvana garbage.

  • @LongDongSilver666 I think it was accidental theft. At this point in time, every new song is ripping off an older one.

  • @smashing2012 NOPE

  • Kurt Copy-Paste Cobain.

  • fuck! sounds like NIRVANA COME AS YOU ARE

  • goddam love the way that opening riff sounds

  • I'll give Nirvana their due but they were definitely overrated. Even Dave Grohl has said so. Nevermind was basically a collection of other peoples songs re-written by Kurt Cobain. At least half of that album sounds like a carbon copy of the Pixies.

  • @iamyourgranddaddy I doubt very much Dave Grohl would EVER say Nirvana were overrated!! I love both bands because they were so fucking special in their time!! They both keep reminding me of special moments in my life as I grew up.

  • @coltsuperocean10

Grohl did say Nirvana were overrated. He was pissed off at how bands like Pixies were ignored at the time while Nirvana got all the recognition.

  • i guess it is repetitive, and yet, cause its fucking killing joke im ok with it. its still better than anything from...1994-now-anything in the future. not really sure what all this nirvana shit is about, never struck me as particularly unique or interesting, its not its fault though, its a product of the 90's

  • Bassist is just tearing it up! :D

  • Nirvana is way better than this queer shit, and all you pussy Nirvana haters can shut the fuck up because no one cares about what you like.

    dumb fucks.

  • @therunningman09 Nirvana are the most overrated rock band ever, thanks to MTV, a mainstream album like Nevermind and Cobain's death. Killing Joke are very versatile, their style has punk, new wave, gothic, heavy metal and synth pop elements. Nirvana are a good band but their popularity is exaggerated in my opinion.

  • @ter50 i think people like nirvana becuz no one had heard music like that before. Punk element with pop melodies and great lyrics...but this song is sick

  • @ter50

Okay two things wrong with ur post 1) Thousands of singers and bands aired on mtv when it was good, but not all of them got famous 2) Cobain's death wasn't a stunt, He was going through hell and he wanted to end it.

These guys I've listened to their music but in my opinion theyre as average as any 80s pop band, if not less. Nirvana was more creative than them.

And the KJ copied this song from another band, so that makes them even less significant.

  • @therunningman09 Killing Joke isn't any pop band, this song's idea is to be a parody of the "Eighties". God, read a bit before making any stupid comments

  • @therunningman09 Killing Joke has influenced an inmense number of bands (Nirvana, too!!), its genre boundaries are quite wide (though in essence they are a punk band), so stop playing them down.

  • @therunningman09 *Sniff Sniff*

You sound furious, lol. Calm down little buddy, it's just music.

    Hilarious.

  • @therunningman09 you rock

  • I think I'm gay :?

  • did nirvana steal that riff?

  • @hatebreed444 Based off it I suppose? The song structure is way different though and it's easy to tell that Nirvana wasn't going for a direct and blatant rip. Also there are so many riffs and solos based off eachother or similar in way or another it's not even funny,

  • Jaz Coleman looks the perfect politician - I reckon he could give Cameron a run for his money at PMQs.

  • awsome song and vid

  • John De Lorean at 3:07

  • 27 people have no taste.

  • Ah, to see them all in their prime: beautiful, powerful, talented, political, humorous…a great classic video and supreme testament to Killing Joke’s unique musical genius!

  • Now..if you could make 80's into 2010's (I know..doesn't scan) .and that was a Nazi flag in the background..this would be a great satire of a typical tea bagger or hardcore republican rally.

Damn I love this song!..but I'd never seen the video before.

  • Geordie Walker(guitar) reminds me of Conan O' Brien in a weird way..if he was shorter and totally different.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought my buddy was exaggerating when he said Nirvana ripped them off...

  • hey i'm just glad kurt had that amazing taste in music....

    thank god for killing joke.

  • this has been edited- when the guitar player wearing the priest collar turns you used to be able to see he had skin falling off and whip marks. too offensive i guess. lame.

  • @sparklord66

Answered my question before I asked it. Thanks!

  • you can always rely on killing joke to give you that little bit extra that most other bands just can't deliver :)

  • jaz seems to have massive hands

  • the guitar riff was also used by the grateful dead

  • @dildoenforcer which song from the grateful dead are you talking about?

  • Forgot to add... the third song I'm referring to is "Come as you are" by the Damned

  • Hmmm - I'd heard that Cobain referred to the song as "the Killing Joke Song"... in truth the riff was the Damned's before it was anyone else's... Cobain was humble enough to admit it, Coleman and co. are anything but humble and the Damned are too cool to sue anyone... a lot of "cross fertilisation" went on in the UK punk scene so who knows? Personally, I like all 3 songs, took a while to understand how good a song Come As You are is, what did it for me was the Jim Brown (as Elvis) version.

  • um was way before nirvana. lol

  • god, dis is such a ripoff off Come as u r by Nirvanna, fuckkkkkkkkk

  • LOL wow. come as you are is way better though.

  • If you knew what kind of dross music that was being played during the 1980s, you'd know that what Killing Joke was playing was radically different and incredibly inspiring! NO ONE sounded like them; and they continue to lead where others follow.

  • s'walla fuck aina

  • Both nirvana and killing joke are great bands so stfu and enjoy that we have awesome music like this.

  • why the hell are we going back to this bullshit taht went on when this video came out.we don't need retro of that era redifining are nation in such a corprate and fashion sense, the problem with our economy now is for-real.i live in texas and fuck rick perry for not taking the package from our president here.think of poor mexican people who wanna work butt can't feed their kids, sorry g.m. lockhead and panam airlines... fuck circa 84-85.go to hell republicans....

  • NIRVANA!!!!!

    COME AS YOU ARE!!!!

  • I'm living for ...the 80s!

  • That jam was badass.. it begs for a electronica remix. I just might whip something up, WOO!

  • Based on the simplicity of the riff, I'll give Cobain the benefit of the doubt that he wrote it without realizing someone else had written something strikingly similar.

That said, this song is way cooler than "come as you are," anyway.

  • @CaptainCocaine

he was supposedly a fan though

  • @CaptainCocaine How? This band sounds so shit

  • @PSPISOGAME You think THIS is bad? You should listen to some Nirvana. *shudders*

  • @CaptainCocaine aye I agree on the first bit you wrote :)

  • @SamuelHellDay Obviously, every band gets inspiration from other popular resources from their time that made them great.

But I really don't think he sat down one day, and said, "I'm gonna make a song called Come As You Are....AND PLAGIARIZE IT!!!" I think it happened unintentionally.
