  • hi, Nice song

  • He passed away today....inna illahi wa raji'un

  • This music slide is dedicated to Syed Ejaz Ahmed (Ajja mamu) with whom I first saw Ustad Asad Ali Khan playing RUDRA VEENA first time in Karachi few years back. Khan Sahib is a gem and can be called the man behind rudra veena`s persisting stature, who religiously believed that this instrument could do wonders when played soulfully. I also consider myself lucky to have been able to listen to his music live.

  • Immensely enjoyable to hear and observe. Thank You.

  • asad ali khan is a legend...

  • Wow, super duper stuff. Khan Sahib is fantastic and in fact so is the gentleman on the Pakhawaj. Thanks for sharing this and looking forward for more.

  • Khan Sahib is a gem. I consider myself lucky to have been able to listen to his music. Dhrupad lives..... Its 73 years old.....

  • Very nice Ustad Ali Khan!!!

  • A truly sincere artist...wonderful.

  • So. Beautiful...

  • Hey! Has he tied two ends of a tabla together?

    Great Veena by the way

  • No - that is a one piece drum called Pakhawaj. It predates the tabla and is the dhrupad drum of choice. Asad Ali Khan and Gopal Das are great together!

  • @sonofthedestroyer It's actually the other way. The Pakhawaj is ancient. The Tabla was created by separating the Pakhawaj into two separate drums.

  • I really wish there were more videos of Asad Ali Khan on Youtube, he is truly divine. Pt. Gopal Das also seems like a true master of pakhawaj, together they are perfect!

  • man those guys can JAM!!!!!!

  • What a magnificent instrument!

  • Always a pleasure to see and listen to Asad Ali Khan.

  • Excellent piece on rudra veena

  • thanks for posting! kieran

  • thanks so much for posting this... love the rudra veena, always looking for more from Asad Ali Khan... have anything from Z.M. Dagar?

  • This instrument is the oldest musical instrument in the Earth. It belonged to the Hindu Gods who played this beautiful instrument and humans got this gift from them and learned from them.........the age of the Veena cannot be traced.

  • Are you sure it is the oldest instrument? What are your sources? It would seem logically that the drum would be the first since it doesn't take much to make. Or maybe some instrument like the didgeridoo which the aborigines of Australia. They have lived around 40,000 years ago.

  • the oldest instrument is the human body. apart from our own being, the oldest is the drum, like you say.

  • Please note that the indian sysytem adopted the gamaka system which was not possible in all previous instruments. There have been instruments like the Yaazh which were much more primitive than the veena. We have only written documentation, not even pictorial representations of many of these instruments.
