It is a common misunderstanding to believe they are based on the Bible. Indeed they are based upon a faith in God, but not by necessity the Judeo-Christian God.
Freedom of religion, and freedom from government sponsored or recognized religion is one of the basic tenets of our Constitutional framework.
I think you need to read the Bill of Rights.

Sure, no argument there. Our laws and judicial decisionsdid have a founding in Christianity. However, those laws are applicable to all religions. Don't kill, steal, etc, etc. These are merely codes by which civil societies live. The fact that the Bible enforced them (by stoning--the prefered method of the old testament) was simply a way to control the primitive Israelites, who were worshipping false idols and going insane in the desert. All I'm saying is that we need to move past superstition.

By privatizing parks and libraries these attempts to mix religion with government and legislate morality would diminish almost completely.

At first I was upset that Palin has a list of
about 200 books to ban. however checking further I found most had very bad reviews, and removing them from stores and libraries makes finding ones with better reviews easier. She used NYT book reviews to choose the ban list. She also has ideas on which movies are best and worst.
Obama's list OTOH are almost all books I would miss! I don't know how he came up with his list. One can find his list by googling.

Sarah Palin is the new matriarchal symbol of the GOP's far right wing fundamentalist agenda to bring creationism back into public schools nationwide, burn all books that conflict with their extremist beliefs, reinstitute a military draft and begin a war with Russia whose only logical conclusion is a full scale nuclear exchange as was feared during the cold war after WWII and through to the 80's under Reagan.
This will effectively bring about their prophetic armageddon.

I want real military and economic experience in the white house (and since NEITHER have ANY economic experience...at least McCain's got one of 2, and he better frekin get Romney in his cabinet immediatley).

Hey coolmom Go Ask Alice was first published in 1971 by Simon & Schuster, you may be thinking of the re-issue date, when it became available on trade paperback through Aladdin Books in 1998. It doesn't even take diligent research to learn the truth, just a little unbiased inquiry; which palin supporters are obviously not too keen on. Better have a run at it now, because if she gets into office who knows what kind of bizarre restrictions and censorships we'll be left with.

Maybe after 8 years of Dick Cheney, people take the role of VP a little more seriously. I know I sure as hell do. It's even more of a concern when you consider the very real possibility of McCain dying in office and Palin becoming President. If you want to compare candidates based on experience, Obama/Biden have more in their pinkies than Palin could manage to get with the rest of her life. For God's sakes, she just got her Passport this year.What makes you think she understands other countries?

That statement in it's self tells me she is unfit to lead in increasingly golbal environment. Please check out bbc news for a more balanced source of info. And please read more books especially the ones that many want to ban.

We're all worried about the VP because McCain is 72 --the oldest to ever run for president-- and as the VP has come to acquire greater responsibilities it is probably best to have one who's entire campaign doesn't consist of a love of hockey, or the fact that she has 'real-life problems. We worry about Palin because of what is says about McCain -that he stopped caring about this country long ago and has retreated into the cheap Roveian tactics that have made politics in this country an absurdity

I think Palin is likely a good mayor for her town and, maybe, a good governor for her state- a conservative slightly backward place. She is most definitely not qualified, nor does she have the temperament or open mindedness to be president of the US and with a 33% chance of that happening (actuary tables give McCain a 1 in 3 chance of dying before finishing 8 years in office), that's just scary.
