  • For me, it's Cronkite, Jennings, Brokaw and everyone else. Miss those guys.

  • Ironically, Walter Cronkite passed away during the 40th anniversary week of the first manned moon landing (Apollo 11), perhaps the one event he'll be best remembered for.

  • @altfactor You want more irony. Cronkite most famous news story (the Death of JFK) interrupted a CBS series (As The World Turns), and now his death almost 40 years later interrupts another CBS series (Ghost Whisperer).

  • The old fart was living with Carly Simon's sister at 92. Got to give to him, he had nads for an old man of his advanced years.

  • RIP Walter Cronkite. And that's the way it EVER WILL BE!

  • Although Walter Cronkite didn't join CBS News full-time until 1950, I thought he had worked as a stringer for the network during World War II in Europe in addition to being a correspondent for the United Press wire service.

  • whenever i hear "this is a [so-and-so] special report", i get chills

  • Famous Legend of CBS.

  • Cronkite was a witness to every news event in the 20th century and the voice of "the greatest generation." He was a comforting presence during the most horrific events of that era. He is sorely missed.

  • Cronkite was the best reporter i've ever seen.

  • their will never be another walter cronkite !!!!

  • One of Walter Cronkite's saddest moments is at the 3:30 mark. That's the way it was, folks!

  • I just watched the episode of 'Mary Tyler Moore Show' where Cronkite makes an appearance in the newsroom after Ted won the Teddy Award... he did great.

What a great guy. He will always be missed.

  • It almost seems like this break-in to regular programming was planned, because the show they interrupted continued right where it left off, rather than being left to run in the background.

  • @mrivera1 It would be planned. They break with the full knowledge of Master Control. It would be a VERY simple matter to re-start the program as if it was simply paused.

  • The infamous 10 seconds where you prepare yourself for the worse! ;)

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 It makes it easier for the Pacific and especially Mountain time zone stations to switch to it without cutting off the open. Also, when they happen during a local newscast, it gave we directors time to tell the anchors to toss to it, for things like presidential addresses that we knew were going to happen, just not exactly when.

  • @TVGenius Really?! Okay that's very interesting and that does make sense. As a matter of fact that's exactly what happened with Terry Moran on Nightline when he announced President Ford died. He even said they were going to pause for a minute so the rest of the country could catch up. WHY did I not put 1 and 1 together?! LOL!!

Whenever that countdown begins, my mind just begins to race asking who died, who got shot, is the President coming on,etc. A lot of people on Youtube say the same thing.

  • In the evening news intros yes.

  • Is That Walter Cronkite Doing The Voiceover For The CBS News Special Report At The Very Beggining Of The Video?

  • ummm.... no there is no voice over. what ever anchor is doing the report, they say this is a cbs news special report... im michele geilan at cbs news headquarters.

  • @05309193 Yes, that's him!!

  • Cronkite anchored all of CBS News' big events from 1952-62. But not the evening news. CBS brass didn't think the then-15 minute newscast was that big of a deal. But when NBC's Huntley-Brinkley started kicking CBS and Douglas Edwards' rear, CBS moved Cronkite into the Evening News chair in 1962.

  • btm85bubs i posted a comment from cbs news special report from june 11 2004 the comment was do u have special report of peter jennings death

  • Nope. If I did I would have posted it. Sorry.

  • @tonyaldr i wasn't talking to i was talking to btm85bubs i bet you know btm85bubs closed his account

  • Try to post the special report of peter jennings death man, I really mean it.

  • Wow! They actually interupted the show! i didn't think they did that anymore. Great post!

  • Great clip. Thanks for posting.

As far as I know, you're the first person who's posted the full 10-second version of the new CBS News Special Report animation that debuted in May.

I have the audio (but not the video) of CBS's special report on Peter Jennings' death - yes, a *CBS* report on the ABC anchor's passing. I should probably post it.
