The altimeter was set wrong. The pilot thought he was at a certain altitude to perform that meunuver when he was really a couple hundred feet lower then he thought he was.
its not the engine failurs.pilots pull the jet quickly before 4000ft.he have to change the manuver after reaching 4000ft.its pilot mistake not the enginer failure.
the altitude indicatorin the f 16 was set for the wrong airport.
so the aircraft was telling him he was at the right altitude but he only realised what was wrong at the last second he ejected within half a second before the crash.
Well, the thing is, if electronics fail, the pilot must learn to check with his bare eyes. That is why good eyes are needed in order to become a pilot.
F-16s don't bounce very well.

Actually GATO, beyond a certain point the altimeter cannot be trusted. Anything under around 80 feet and you're better off eye-balling it.

SEGREGATOR RULES!
Rawrsomenezz 3 years ago 3
I don't know about that, but I'm sure the pilot didn't rule at that performance.
segregator236 3 years ago
isn't this the sept 15 2003 idaho crash?
gglovato 3 years ago 2
Yes I think so. It's the Blue Angels.
segregator236 3 years ago
actualy its thunderbirds blue angles (which are naval counterparts) fly F-18's
AirpowerAirforce 3 years ago 3
Yes yes it was a typing error. I keep mixing the Blue Angels up with the Thunderbirds!
Anyways, they performed at our Airshow. Man, those F-16s were loud!
I haven't seen the Blue Angels yet although I really want to. But I've seen F-18F Super Hornet flights lots of times.

Wow what country had that f-16 crash ?

Looks like it is the nose cone which is bumping away !
SindreAHN 3 years ago 2
It is. It's the front of the cockpit.
segregator236 3 years ago
yea i know that ? nose cone ? hehe =D
i work with aircraft...
SindreAHN 3 years ago 3
Yep. Shows how light fighters are prone to get crumbled and tumbled.
segregator236 3 years ago
mhm, that`s sure !
SindreAHN 3 years ago
ACTUALLY, it's the engine.
segregator236 3 years ago
i doesn`t agree here
i have seen a picture of the aircraft`s wreck, and that the engine was splitted up into 1000 parts and more.
i bet it is the nose cone flying !
SindreAHN 3 years ago
It was the main part of the turbofan. The nose cone I think was crushed.

grame141 3 years ago
Yup. No more free beer for him.
segregator236 3 years ago
Epic Fail indeed. This is even more f***ed up than that Harrier crash. Man this is gonna cost a bit...
mcbraynor 3 years ago
This costed the airport some serious money to repair the ground.
segregator236 3 years ago
Yeah, not to mention the plane itself. Btw, did they really get free beer?:))
mcbraynor 3 years ago
Buddy, beer is the standard drink in the Canadian Air Force as well as USAF.
segregator236 3 years ago
Yeah but i didn't know it's for free :P
mcbraynor 3 years ago 3
For the pilot, yes.
segregator236 3 years ago
And even how much was that plane...ROFL
csengeri 3 years ago
The plane is more than the pilot can afford beer.

Always check your altitude.

Actually, he'd be lucky if he died and got it all over with. Now he's gonna live with guilt and got kicked out of the team.
