ahahah this is like a picture for the "human blindness" . is not an adventure movie abaout an epedemy like I am the legend. This is based on a NOBEL PRIZE WINNER.
ahahah you're opinion about how people that go blind would react in this situation is really ridiculous!
Little piece of information: *every* film has continuity errors! But only about 1/50 people actually notice it! Can you imagine how boring and idiotic reviews would be if continuity errors were a serious point of criticism? They're fucking imdb trivia at best. If that's one of your big grievances with the film (that and your mysoginist projections) then your review is truly willfully stupid.
I love the way that you defend the sexism by saying basically the equivalent of "I know you are but what am I?" like the brain dead child you really are.
And as far as the continuity goes, yes it does fucking matter. Just look at ANYTHING Kubrick did. You'd be hard pressed to find them.
ANYTHING by Kubrick? Are you kidding me? Kubrick was the worst offendor, precisely because he took so many takes! Just look at The Shining imdb goof page - it goes on forever! But according to your rationale this makes him an incompetent director...
And your accusation that 'every' woman in the film is 'without flaws' is completely contradictory when you also argue that Moore's character was 'self centred' 'horrible horrible person' (?!?) Explain that.
Sure, I wouldn't want to embarass you any further! But I'll let Groucho Marx do the signing off: "He may talk like an idiot, and look like an idiot, but don't let that fool you: he really is an idiot."
i got to say the willful stupidity you talked about is all yours. she was carrying three bags instead of two bags is a point of criticism? The rack was a little higher in scene 27? who the fuck notices all this shit?! There's nothing wrong with the movie but in the way you're seeing it. You say all the male characters are bad but what about Danny Glover, the boy? Moore was a horrible horrible person? She's flawed sure but she also grows into a strong caring leader.
a dude i watched this movie for about 40 minutes and fastforward all the way to the end of boredom and i was like wtf at the end the guy isnt blind anymore so does that mean every one else is going to get better or what
this movie could of had potential, she should have announced that she could see from the beginning and helped everyone out.this movie made me sooo mad, the part when the fat guy was talking about one of the ladies being a dead fish was so disturbing that any body, would have gotten up and walked over and beat the crap out of that guy, and you know what, he probably would have still been standing there talking like someone was actually listening to him . you know why? CUZ HES BLIND!!!!
Blindness Sucked!! the rape scenes made me sooooo mad!!! SHE COULD SEE and let a blind guy run the whole show. hes just as blind as the rest of them, mark ruffalos character really pissed me off, when he comes back with the food and hes like "what could i do??"" ::Wahh wahh::: its like shut the fuck up mark ruffalo and start throwing elbows man you'll hit something. julianne moore lets all those women get raped cuz shes an idiot!! i gave this movie 2 thumbs down and a negative 4 stars.
I mainly got pissed off that the movie was implying that that many men would turn into rapist in a heartbeat and every woman was without flaws of any sort.
Then when you get down to it, its really just a zombie movie for people too snobby to watch a zombie movie.
Saramago's books are metaphorical with deeper meaning Blindess or "Ensaio Sobre a cegueira"(the original portuguese title of the book) is about the blindness of people towards various subjects. It's a critic about people that only sees superficial things, so they are blind to the things that really matters.
People that say that this movie is offensive are "blinds" cause they are only seeing the superfecial and are not seeing the real meaning of the movie/book.
I hadn't read the book, and had seen this movie I never will. Even if the book wasn't horribly offensive, the author authorized this two hour hate speech.
PASS!
I've got far too much to read before that garbage.
I've seen the movie and like the book (the book is better), it's metaphorical and intends to be offensive to the people that don't want to see the world as it really is. It's metaphorical, and don't intends to offense blind people like so many believe.
But ok, people don't like it because it's metaphorical with a deeper meaning and not what people usually like (superficial movies).
Yep, you've got me pegged dead to rights, I'm just Johny Superficiality. BOOM! POW! WIZ! (Jingles keys).
But real quick, you missed some key points.
1)This is a movie review, and should NOT be taken into context of the original property.
2)It's little more than any zombie movie, just minus the zombies for people too stupid to see movies like 28 Days Later for the piece of work that it truly is.
3)My issue was NOT with the representation of the blind, it was of men in the movie. All of them were incompetent rapists, where as the women were empirical beings with out any flaws. A hooker with a heart of gold? *Cough* cliche' *Cough, cough*. Also the military was portrayed as sociopathic sadistic murderers.
This movie told me I was a bad person in two ways, one of which I was born like and had no choice in the matter.
Hey.....sos vos el que pusiste el video....que decia que era extended y no era asi........bueno no vas a entender nada de lo que te pongo porque you speak english....so
the only i could understan was ...que didin´t like the movie
Second: you wonder why the movie shows military members laughing on blind people. I'll give you an example of this kind of situation. Why people laugh watching television shows that are all about showing people passing through accidents? That's because you see other people in tough situations and laugh about it because it's not happening to you, and the situation makes the person in a lower place than you are. That is just the same.
I didn't mean to remove your 3rd post, feel free to repost it.
All the same; 1) My problem is that the movie stereotypes so many people in a negative fashion. It only shows military members as being heartless, sadistic, and cruel. EV-ER-Y single man in the movie is either incompetent or bad, whilst EV-ER-Y single woman is portrayed as without having faults and being better than men in every aspect. It also undermines blind people horrifically and is obviously offensive.
First: you wonder why the movie shows blind men exchanging food for women and you realize that they are doing this because they're blind. That is not true! They became blind because of a huge epidemic, that attacks everyone, and they are put into a prison. They do that kind of thing because they're scared about the situation. It's not about being good or evil, it's about being scared. Scared people can do horrible things, and it's not their fault.
The movie is based on the book of the same name written by Saramago. You should read it and see the huge reflection you're given to. The book (and why not the movie?) make you change your way to see the society.
Se podes enxergar, vê. Se podes ver, repara. (phrase from the book).
"was offensive in three different ways, to blind people, to military members, and to men"
It really wasn't. The film is not about typical blind people (who have over time learned how to cope with blindness), it's about everyone going blind unexpectedly, and have no help, and how it affects them.
Military members were not portrayed as sadistic murders or rapists. They didn't rape anybody. The only ones they killed they did so under standing orders, and they did so reluctantly.
As for the military guys toying with Julianne Moore when directing her to the shovel, well that's fairly typical behavior when boredom sets in. Plus, in any quarantine situation, those in quarantine are quickly seen as less than human by those outside, and there are many examples of this throughout history.
As for the men, the only ones that seemed to have negative traits were those in Ward 3 (who seemed to be all of the malcontents having formed a click), everyone else seemed okay to me.
Well, people are saying that this movie is insulting by blind people. I think it's because of the American title. "Blindness" gives the impression that the movie is all about blindness. It isn't. The title in Portuguese is "Ensaio sobre a Cegueira", which means something like "Essay on Blindness". The movie is all about how the humaity deals with the people who are poor, who are ill, who are ugly. The movie shows that. Humanity simply put them away, far from the society.
ok, i am watching the movie right now on my ps3, i will see if its a bad movie. People said the same thing about the happening, but i thought it was a cool movie, imma watch this now.
In fact I think that dude's gone down hill ever since The Village. I walked out when she was climbing the wall and found out the next day what was going on. Didn't even flinch. By that point I couldn't of cared less.
You make some very good points here. The irony though is that you are very blurred in your video post... I almost felt blind looking at you. Good video post nevertheless.
Everyone who sees Blindness will undoubtedly dig deep for his or her own special vision-related play on words. Here is mine: Blindness is a film I wish I hadn't seen.
wtf? Have you even tried to understand the movie? Or have you read the book? So all the characters drive is stupidity because they get blind and can't keep a completely strange facility. I'm insulted not by the movie's or book's plot but by your narrow mind.
the book is amazing, one of saramago's best for sure. It's well written, in an almost stream-of-consciousness voice, it's suspenseful... an altogether enjoyable read. Because of this, i'm disappointed to hear that the movie sucks ass. Well done again, eh hollywood?
I went with someone who read the book. I can't remember if they said there was that whole military = sadistic rapist/murderers and men are evil bit. If it did I would rather cut off my toes with a shovel than read it.
All the same, thanks for the comment. I may read it one day, but my plate is full enough for now.
oh! God! Seriously??? you're so smart and you didn't understand it... people that lose their sight at some point of their life have to have help so they can learn to do things again, like how to find the bathroom in a place were they never been before...!! You should try to join international amnistie...
In addition, there makes the whole sense that they defecate in any part, is a bunch of people who were never blind,is the whole society in shock, they cant see, Therefore people cant work, cant clean,so it makes sense why the do it.
I would love to discuss this review with you, but i dont think you care that much haha and i dont speak too much english(apologies for lack of spelling, its very difficult for me).
Anyway,In my opinion this book is excellent, and the movie seems to be equal
I am from Argentina, here it releases on October 30, i cant wait to see it. Have you read the book?, because its great, actually its my favourite book.
Anyway..i think it doesnt make any sense what you said.
First, She can see, but in that chaos she cannot help anybody, because people are selfish, they wont said: ohh... nice lady, help me, please!.. they would used her, she would be a slave. It would be a nightmare for her.
ok i must tell im 16 years old and i suck at telling people what i think. and what i saw in that movie was ok. and yes the bag thig was a misstake... but there was a point in the blur of the camera. i dont think it was like the shakeing of the camera in Handcock. And you where right about the plot. it did not go in any order. BUT, the whole "POINT" of it was surival!!
you can't just learn how to adap over night in blindness. and have you noticed how the doctor was allways asking for the time (you dont know how long it has been when they frist go blind.) you must all so put in that all guards where SCARED. it is not that they want to kill them. (but it did seem that they did) the movie was not as bad as you say!!
the main girl... you are right about her being distent. but it was not her job to help any one. when they got out, the human morals, values where all gone!! it was like being in quarantine. she has grown hard.
And i think that you can not watch this move and distance your slef from it. you have to put heart in the movie and i think that is what they wanted. is the movie that bad... I dont think so. is it the best movie ever made... far from it. I give this move a 7-10 (10 being the best.) you have to have a taste in of this type of movies. HA HA im still a kid.
Oh, man. I wish you would better spend your time and money watching Burn After Reading (Awesome movie) or Miracle at St. Anna (Have not seen, but supposed to be one of Spike Lee's best films ever).
But if there is ABSOLUTELY no stopping you, I will look forward to your reply.
The movie's message, it's not that hard to grasp. It's that man turns panicked and regresses to a state of infancy in times of crisis. Also trying to show that people are universally evil as shown threw the micro societies that arose, which is a perplexing theme to me being as how man keeps thriving.
As far as "bloopers" go: mistakes happen naturally, but every time you have one you remind the audience that they are watching a movie. This is basic film 101, here.
dude you`re totaly right, that`s a retarded film that leaves you feeling depressed and angry after watching it, good review, thumbs up!

Your statement might hold water if this was titled Blindness Movie and Book review. But it isn't. It's called Blindness MOVIE review.
The movie was a horrible movie that was offensive in three different ways, to blind people, to military members, and to men.

Overall, I believe the story demonstrates how fragile our society is, and how little it takes for it all to unravel.
