I remember when I was young when I firstly was reading about Winter War, I was surprised how little army can destroy much larger army. Finnish Army had really good officers and scouts. Well done Fins, nice work!
@Biiviz The part they left out was that my enemy's enemy is my friend as well as a genocidal nutjob. Finland like Hungary Rumania, Yugoslavia, and all the other nations that joined in with operation barbossa were opportunists they saw a chance to get more land and were greedy. They ended up paying dearly for it. They thought Nazi Germany was going to let them keep what they took but they were mistaken Hitler wanted the whole world and wouldn't share with anyone. The allies of Germany were next.
@MikiTeme1113 The winter war was a break down of negotiations between Russia and Finland. Russia was willing to sit and talk about what they wanted and even offered Russian land as part of payment for what they wanted from Finland. The Finnish government was to prideful to take a good deal when they had one. Finland screwed themselves over and was lucky that Russia agreed to peace talks cause eventually the Fins started to lose and Russia could of just drove on and took over the whole nation.
Finland in the end was forced to submit to Russia's demands but the Continuation War was stupid Finland had peace and was free mostly but to side with the nazis there's no excuse they got what they deserved.
@NatCr3w Mayby thats true. But wood you just sit down and take what someone else, especially another country then your own, tells you to do? Or do you take action, answer the call when your country needs you, and fight for the sake of thous how can´t fight back. So that others can enjoy a free land in the future. Am sorry if this is a old comment I found, but I got pumpt up, and had to spill my heart out. I hope you understand friend.
In the 50's, after the war, Americans interviewed Mr. Hayha to tell about his legendary sniper results. As Finnish people spreading the story, Simo said only one word: Practicing.
Hail from Hungary to our brave Finnish brothers, and to the greatest sniper ever.
@TheSupersoldier1234 Where you think Russians learned art of winter battles? They adapted lot of our tactics against Germany, like Stalingrad just a lot bigger version of our motti tactics.
He used 7,62 mm Military Rifle M/28-30, "Suojeluskuntain Pystykorva": with iron sights in - 40 degrees. Simo Häyhä died on April 1, 2002, in Rautjärvi, at the age of 97 years.
in the wake of the night white death looks upon a recent battlefield and says nothing but your death was need for unlike most of the stereotypes of snipers he doesn't care nor mock the ones he killed this is a lesson in life that must be taught if not by words then by action by the mere flex of a finger a million lives can be lost
@TheSkyshatter Oh horrors! LMAO Forcing you to play all their songs over and over until you know the lyrics .. and even worse they sometimes stick in your head ... *giggle* GhostDog makes the BEST Sabaton ever =D
An example of Häyhä's skill is one occasion where he heard that a friend of his died from a Russian sniper's bullet. Well the next day he went out to look for the sniper, he waited the whole day into the night and shot the sniper. A soldier and a good friend.
i just rode fom news, that USA wants build missile shield to europe but russia said that they are going to use missiles, i think theres sumthing that they dont tell us, civilians. But im finn, and for me, im ready to die for my fatherland ;)
Finns much better sniper in russia. Russian said to equal the exact sniper shot over, Simon Häyhä aptly shot back to the 450 meters, without binoculars.
Finnish officer said: "The wolves will eat well this year." After the "victory", a Russian officer muttered, "Well, we've won just enough land to bury our dead."
and the christmas is again coming...time to remember those heroic mens who defend our freedom and our homeland....!!!!! R.I.P. all those veterans who served our country and passed away...but remember those who are still alive and tell the story about that whats like to be a finn and proud of it...
Häyhä was injured after 3 months, so he killed them all in three months. He killed over 50 mans in 3 days before christmas 1939... theres some history for you! The Best Sniper Of World War 2, most of the pages tells that.
@Kuhlfurst Greetings from croatia we also have had problems with communists and russian allies. So we fixed that just like finland. And were most numbered just like russia.
@crowowteam well Russians are not bad now. communism failed, Stalin is dead - yeah we can celebrate. i respect Russians more than any other nation on our planet, because they are strong. and what your croatia can do? nothing. another puppet-state for americans or UN?
@Kuhlfurst wanna try in 21st centry one more tine? i don't think so. btw great soldiers, strategies Finland. just saying, Russia is more supreme than 1940s/
@doluss If it was a defensive war, Finland would do rather well I think. In the last few years we've received much modern equipment, and our training is still far superior to Russian. Remember that Russia wouldn't draw its best equipment against Finland, as the only war scenario there is, is WW3 where Russia would likely fight whole Europe. Finnish army can also get some 300,000 soldiers in initial, and over a million in total mobilization, which is A LOT in modern standards.
@Kuhlfurst well Russians always fail with their generals. now they wont fail :D i believe. actually - your army was more disciplined, better equiped and etc. you were at defensive point so that made much easier to struggle and win B T W - im happy that you won that war, i hate communists, because they were fake communists. Heil to Europe. Just saying, that Russians are more prepared to war than any other country.
@Kuhlfurst why not?? in the end of the war u joined the allies because you counldnt face defeat and in the start of the war u were side by side twith the nazis
@papadimitriouapostol Finland never joined the Allies. Finland postponed military actions against Germany as long as it could and the so-called Lapland War began when Germans (thankfully) shot first. Finns were also pressured by Soviets, and Finland knew that being nice to Germans wasn't worth losing independence now after incredibly luck of preserving it after an offensive war.
Get your facts straight idiot, and go back to school as you obviously can't write like a normal person.
@papadimitriouapostol No, Finland agreed to push Germans out of their country through peaceful means and if necessary, through violence. When hostilities ceased Finland was still considered an Axis power and the Allies issued a supervising committee to make sure Finland follows peace conditions of 1944.
Being in Allies means officially allying themselves with USSR, USA, UK and others. Finland never did this and was not admitted to UN until mid-1950's.
@Kuhlfurst Well to join the allies never meant to ally with the USSR ;) The USSR was in the "Komintern" With Tannu Tuwa and Mongolia, while the USA etc. were in the allies. Thats important, because if they were allied with the USSR, the Sowjets had to declare war on japan, too, but they didn't. They supported each other, but they were not in an alliance, which many conflicts later shows (sorry for my bad english grammar :P)
@thespede1 Even thou I am from Finland, I must notify that the amount of soldiers that Simo Häyhä killed has never been confirmed, because there are no statistic reports and these "kill-statistics" are made by asking from his fellow soldiers.
@thespede1 No disrespect but Zeitsev was a Russian. Mosin-Nagant was a Russian bolt-action rifle. He was one of Russia's top snipers. Actually, a female, cannot remember the name, at that time was Russias best sniper. Small note: Zeitsev is a Russian name, so that should have told you he was Russian.
Once on english lesson, the teacher told that we'd have to do an essay about something related closely to Finland (im a finn) and present it to the class. Without any hesitation, i said right after the announcement what my subject would be, "Simo Häyhä". :)
The essay had to be at least 5 minutes long presentation, mine was longest of the class. 10 minutes.

@kungsmurfen Documentary movies on Discovery "Battlefield. Scandinavia - The Forgotten Front"and battles inscenization from: "Fire and Ice - The Winter War of Finland and Russia". Greets.
@tsubacabras I think it's more like he woke up and the Russians decided to sign the peace agreement....I mean if all an explosive bullet to the face did was piss him off I wouldnt want to fight anymore either
"snow in mouth hiding his breath", did he really have snow in mouth to hide his breath? I won't be surprised if he really did because - saying in Polish teenager's language and translating into English - he was a hardcore
"snow in mouth hiding his breath", on serio miał śnieg w ustach, żeby schować oddech? w sumie bym się nie zdziwił, jeśli tak naprawdę było, bo mówiąc w młodzieżowym języku, Simo był hardkorem
I remember when I was young when I firstly was reading about Winter War, I was surprised how little army can destroy much larger army. Finnish Army had really good officers and scouts. Well done Fins, nice work!
