  • Real men don't use drugs or drink till they pass out...real men READ POETRY :)

  • @MrDarkkamui "Thomas had liked to boast of his addiction to drinking, saying 'An alcoholic is someone you don't like, who drinks as much as you do.' " Also : Thomas “exhibited the excesses and experienced the adulation which would later be associated with rock stars,”

  • @jacksonhudgins Brendan Behan, whom we might regard as Ireland's answer to Dylan Thomas, said late in his all-too-short life: "I'm a drinker with a writing problem."

  • some really good stuff here

  • 3 people have no souls.

  • This poem was actually not recited by Anthony Hopkins. It was recited by his nostrils. He simply lip synched.

  • If you love Hopkins, make sure to watch his Oscar acceptance speech. The ovation is gigantic and his demeanor onstage is amazing.

  • The narrator's John Gielgud, another fantastic voice actor.

  • wonderful. thanks for posting.

  • Great actor, great poem!

  • Great interpretation by the great RB but some bloody pretty good words too eh? Dylan Thomas just blows me away.

  • I always stood in awe of the Power of this Poem. Now, at age 68, I understand it fully.

  • I could watch Mr Hopkins fishing

  • I - I hubba hubba fjanpjngenejgp - *breaks down crying over the most beautiful poem spoken in the most beautiful way*

  • The lambs Clarice...The lambs...rage against the dying of the light.

  • Hes beautiful.

  • Hi Franco

  • He's put 'poetry voice' on. Look at any of Richard Burton's reading of Wilde to see why this is crap!!

  • My god, as soon as I saw this on a youtube list.... I knew it would be fantastic. And, as ever with Hopkins, I am never disappointed.

  • Hannibal does Poetry huh?

  • A wonderful reading of a wonderful poem.

  • I read this at my father's funeral.

  • A brilliant reading, but I can't take my eyes of Hopkin's nostrils. Really bad, I know, but there we are.

  • Takes a Welshman to read Dylan Thomas

  • Such a Beautiful Poem. So sincerely delivered, with PASSION and true feeling.

Job done. Someone give this Man a Medal. He deserves it.

    Sincererly, Dave Hart

  • My name is Dylan Thomas and I'm from Wales just wanted to say

  • @haldeerX25

Jolly good & congrats (or whatever)! You have a name to live up to.

    Greetings from Norway.

  • Superb! Reading is an art, an art cultivated by a few. Anthony Hopkins was a master of the art! Thanks!

    Miguel

  • Amazing. I'm pretty sure Anthony Hopkins could be reading the ingredients on the back of a box of cereal and I would sit and listen spellbound.

  • @joejackson1083 Anthony Hopkins doesn't need to have sex to please a woman. He just has to pull up a chair next to her in bed and read the yellow pages.

  • @berner Then eat their liver with fava beans and a nice chianti.

  • @NicholasNickleby68 Humorless asshole.

  • @berner PERFECTLY WORDED!!! TOTALLY AGREE :) He just has to talk ;)

  • @berner YUP! Well played good Sir. Well played indeed.

  • @berner a real man knows that pulling a chair next to her bed for reading her the yellow pages eventually can be the sexiest thing in the world.

  • @joejackson1083 On the other hand, this poem would sound good read by Gilbert Gottfried.

  • @Aqquila89 While this poem is amazing. Nothing sounds good as read by Gilbert Gottfried.

  • @joejackson1083 vitamin b6, 12% of intake, intake with added suger though, though sweet intake, for marvellous partake, spooned in with milk, with added calcium, and vitamin D. Is that what you mean?

  • @joejackson1083 I've heard the same thing about (If I remember correctly) James Earl Jones; and I'd have to agree with both.

  • jogn gielgud!!

  • that was when he was welsh

  • oh aod it

  • Dying is hugely over rated as an experience and disproportionately fist-clenching.

    Well-intentioned bourgeoisie sentimentality.

  • @suzycreamecheeses that would be bourgeois, not bourgeoisie

  • @suzycreamecheeses OHRLY?? Please do describe it to me... so that I may judge for myself.

  • Love Sir Anthony, but Rodney Dangerfield did it better!

  • He said Gay, uuh ha ha!

  • @DSilsbury stfu

  • @KOLSARNIT Rage, rage, rage, blah, blah, blah, Brilliant! Happy now?

  • @DSilsbury he said fucked at 0.54lolololololol

  • @KOLSARNIT Forked. Use your listening ears to listen.

  • I was name after him.

  • The Welsh have been blessed with voices that can make angels cry and men weep for their souls.

  • @peter2156 for crying out loud

  • @peter2156 ..As has every other nation on the planet... it's a shame that such a small, insignificant speck of crap [wales] claims to be so much at it than others, with no proof or tangible evidence. Perhaps because they've contributed exactly zip to the general well being of Earth as a whole.

  • @MyLordPariah One word: BRIANBLESSED.

  • @Elcore :)

  • @MyLordPariah

    cretin

  • He ain't Welsh. He's from West Virginia.

  • @TaterGumfries , He is Welsh. And very proud to be.

  • @TaterGumfries He is Welsh :)

  • Whoa, his nostrils are going crazy! Good reading though.

  • what kind of idiot would think that !!sir anthony hopkins!! is an ozzi?! haha you make me laff, beyond stupid! hes welsh, from a town called port talbot.... my home town. do ur homework "westyrulz" idiot

  • Is this available as an audiobook?

  • i like

  • Hopkins makes me proud to be Aussie!!

  • @Westyrulz Why? Hes was born in Wales O_o

  • wow enough said !

  • Makes me proud to be Welsh.

  • @strpingu ???He is an Aussie!!

  • @Westyrulz Ya might wanna research that statement a bit more. Thomas and Hopkins are both Welsh soooo… I mean, unless you’re personally privy to some epic geographic shift of the tectonic plates that has moved Wales to Australia in the last, ohhh let’s say, hour…then yeah that’s some correctly justified Welsh pride from @strpingu

  • @noelle6230 We claimed him as our own many years ago after he stared in the movie "Spotswood".So in essence he is an Australian.

  • @Westyrulz Ah your seemingly ignorant comment has become a little less laughable now. The fact that his performance persuaded you that he was infact an Aussie demonstrates the brilliance of Hopkins acting - still (thankfully) a Welshman though.

  • @strpingu Wow,there is no reason to be rude.Everyone makes mistakes.

  • @Westyrulz Very true.

  • @Westyrulz o an dylan thomas was welsh aswell just incase u didnt know

  • @Westyrulz aaahhh...i see! though i'm of Welsh descent, i am American born and raised and you know we'll claim anyone and anything we like as our own so fair enough lol!

  • @noelle6230 Sanity is restored.

  • Such a moving poem read in the accent of the author to such a deeply moving effect

  • bravo...great poem and well read.

  • Phenominal reading! This is one of the best readings I have ever heard.

  • 0:30 for the actual eulogy and not an annoying, unsolicited narration.

  • Rage Rage against the dying of the light... if my loved one were dying oh how I'd rage

  • Ooooooooooo! I have goose bumps!

  • Anthony Hopkins - wow! A wonderful reading!

  • i was waiting for him to slash someones neck at the end

    very similar to hannibal

  • my fave poem, my fave poet, one of my fave actors....

  • Aw, what a cute, handsome, sweet and young Sir Philip Anthony "Tony" Hopkins. I love it. :-)
