Oh, let's not forget that the US has an ulimited amount of money to keep throwing at the appeals of the convicted, (which on average is 12 years), Money that could help our homeless, elderly or termially ill.
Why is it socially acceptable to sentence a cancer patient to death rather than a criminal of a capital crime, that had a fair and impartial jury convict him of it?
What's the deal with this movement? How about the unjustified killings that have happened in countries like somalia or Darfur or a plethora of other African and Middle Eastern countries? How about the millions executed under Joseph Stalin in early communist Russia? All of these people died innocent deaths, and you guys are worried about the death of one wrongly convicted person at a time? I agree the 'cause is noble, but do something useful. Go feed the hungry people of the world!
How come when some issue is raised people bring up some "bigger" issue. Sorry this is not an argument. Who can say what issue is more important? Global Warming? The Iraq War? I support this young man's endevours. What are you doing to feed the world? Stop executions? Every little bit helps. Thank you bluejersey.
What a great video and what a great place New Jersey is. Most people do not oppose the death penalty but they cannot agree on what and when it is appropriate to carry it out. When I speak about it here in Australia it comes out that most agree that the legal syatem is not 100% fool proof and therefore should not be practiced.
Haha! Looks like that "death of the death penalty thing" hasn't quite come about yet. Rest in peace Jose Medellin, you sack of $#*@. As for your Three Reasons, there's plenty of evidence to contradict your belief that capital punishment does not deter crime, what other people do in their countries is irrelevant, and the nature of the legal system has no bearing on whether a punishment is fair or not.
sparing people from the death penalty also saves families that have to deal with it. the families of the convicted, the people who could be innocent, or even those who had an unfair trial.
the penalty is destroying our society, allowing our children to believe that retribution is the answer, and not education about violence, and how to deal with their problems. is there no greater answer than a needle?
an eye for an eye is crap people all around lose something not just the victims and families of scum? seriously? what did the families have to do to pay for what someone else did. only case where death penalty was necessary was with the ted bundy case where he escaped prison to go to a state with the death penalty because he couldn't stop himself from killing. do you not find it more punishment for the person who committed crimes to live out their life with the guilt of the crime.
saving people from execution is not about the individual and sparing them, but a review of how many people are killed, and the percentage that are found to be innocent. realize that you can hate someone all you want but it will get you nowhere. killing someone for killing someone else its simply destructive.
It's interesting how the whole process to end the death penalty in New Jersey only began well AFTER the elections in November 2007. This would have never happened if the voters of New Jersey had had a chance to weigh in on it with a ballot question. (Polls indicate 73% of NJ voters opposed ending the death penalty.) That's how liberals like Corzine operate though - going against the will of the electorate.
New Jersey makes every excuse they can to save a killer's life. They are a very liberal state and are more interested in protecting murderers than standing up for the innocent public. If the collosseum in Rome lit up every time there was a henious murder in the world, the place would be ashes in seconds!
May New Jersey's declaration of death to the death penalty be the first of many steps toward common human decency in the Garden State and the whole of the USA.
Let's keep rocking the status quo and keep rolling toward that "more perfect union" that our Constitution directs us to strive for!!!

Oh thank god! Lives of murders have been saved...
I guess their very lucky; shame about the victims did any of them get a second chance..... didn't think so!
Must have been such a joyous day!

It's a crime and there is a penalty for it. The families of the scum need to deal with it.
