RE. The stupid ending promos: Nowadays stations don't intrude (as much) upon performances by bands, as they know everyone hates it. It also makes the station look like they are totally tasteless against the performer's artistic achievements - and actually results in hundreds of viewer complaints. Finally, nowadays stations are not so arrogant… They realize it’s not about “the station”, but the individual guests on individual shows. (This written by a MA student in media studies)

Hola amigos, hay una cancion parecida a esta que termina escuchandoze un piano al final pero es mas o menos de 1996 o 97, lo cual pertenece al genero alternativo (supongo yo) la cancion dice: like the graveness sky's blue, now it on it's just like you, like the only you.
Y al final dice mas o menos: A in't just like, just like, just like you.
Y al ultimo se escucha el piano.
Si algun estadounidense me entiende y ha escuchado esa cancion, le pido de gran favor me ayude a identificarla. Gracias
Great band that lost their personality when they lost Big Jim. Somehow they still managed to remain decent, despite trying to appeal to the Starbuck's homo crowd midway through Angel Dust to the day they broke up.
i love mike. he's fearless. he just does not give a fuck. he gets onstage and dances like an idiot and sings in all these crazy voices and it's the most beautiful thing ever.
LOL! the way you tell is this!: if billy is playing an Aria bass, its shortly before Introduce Yourself or VERY shortly after Angel Dust was released...if Billy is playing a Zon bass, its also VERY shortly after Angel Dust and so on...haha!
That was in 1993...it's hard to find a show where all three bands kick *ss nowadays. And at that show I was on the floor in the first ten rows! Yep, life was good. And it only took 48 hours for me to stop having to read lips! (Seriously.)
THIS may be 1991, but I saw them in 1993 and they did all the Real Thing album songs (of course). They usually put on a great live show. All Mike's projects are good (Fantomas and all the rest of his kajillion bands, lol)
R U FUCKIN RETARDED ? mass produced pop bullshit vs true artistic ability. what did u just turn 13 n your stupid ass father is now teaching you all about music/ get with it kid just because MTV plays it doesnt mean its any good
If you listen closely when the announcer is reading the disclaimer near the end (3:22), he mentions that the eligibility of the artists to be nominated for that year's show was based on recordings released after March 1, 1990. So, this could not have been later than March 1, 1991- definitely earlier, though.
Dude! THANKS THANKS THANKS to post this video. I lost the tape where I recorded this live and I was amazed to find it here in youtube!!! I still remember when I saw this first time... THANKS!!!!
I notice that sometimes Patton lacks that kind of crazy energy in some of his performances. Still I dont blame him, TRT seemed to give FNM the kind of screaming young girls attention. Plus god knows how many times they have had to perform Epic. Yeah its a good song, but it doesnt have anything that stops it from getting boring the 5 billionth time you hear it. And the advertisments at the end? Feh, only in America, heh.
By the way. Epic unfortunately will always be seen as their biggest song, their breakthrough hit etc. I think if you ask any particular metal/rockhead what is FNM's best song they would say Epic, followed up by Midlife Crisis.
But if you ask me..and this may sound strange for a Mike Patton fan, I think their best song is We Care A Lot. It's that thumping bassline, Jim's guitar riff and the whoa uh-oh oh!
I might have to agree with you there. "It's that thumping bassline, Jim's guitar riff and the whoa uh-oh oh!" Excellent points, that's what made me love the song in the 1st place! It's just...great. I don't think FNM ever made a song nearly as anthemic as that one ever again. I'm surprised more people don't know We Care A Lot, really..
It was just so ahead of it's time. Can't believe it's originally from 1985. It has a certain 80's sound to it, sure. But then it's also typically their sound. On most early FNM songs Chuck's vocals sound terrible, but on this one it really works. It's really his song.
If they would ever tour again (not record), bring back old Chuck for the old songs, together with Jim Martin. Let the old geezers have their moment. Just do a f-in tour!
Of course that will never happen. Patton doesn't need to. But a lot of people would pay good money for it. I know I would. I don't care if some are affraid that they would look pathetic. It's not like they're the Rolling Stones. Before all the other band members turn 50, I think they should just do it for the music and their fans. Like a farewell tour or something. But that would be too much f-in Motley Crue/Kiss-like. Haha..I am laughing about the whole idea. Never gonna happen :(
I agree completely. All of FNM's stuff was before its time, and We Care A Lot was and always will be Chuck's song. No matter how much 'better' Patton sings it.
That's exactly what I had in mind. If FNM ever had a reunion tour, they'd have to bring Big Ol' Jim and Chuck!! Patton would of course HAVE to be there for it to really work, but...it's Patton we're talking about.
Yeah, the t-shirt gives away that he wasn't completely a neo-hippie. It's the jacket and the pants and the way he held the mic with two hands that made me think about Vedder. You're right about the performance. I dont know what year this was, but it looks like it was after the real thing hype. Then to perform the song for the 1000th time, with Leslie Nielsen(?)announcing you on some sucky ass rock award show like your the next guns n'roses...I'm surprised he didn't quit then
Yeah, this is probably during around 1991/early 1992, maybe? By this point they must've wanted to kill themselves performing this song ALL the time. Poor guys. I guess the Vedder-like clothing was on purpose, to try and distance himself from all the..you get what I mean, hopefully. I already kinda hate Epic and I didn't even perform it ten thousand times like they did!
Hehe, yeah I always saw Pearl Jam kind of like a bit of neo-hippish if you compared them to other grunge bands. I like grunge and the whole thing, don't get me wrong. But Pearl Jam wasn't my favourite.
I think this is probably about mid '91 (early '92 they were recording AD already?)It's a bit of a darker image for Mike, but not complete Angel Dust dark yet. At this point he maybe wanted to shake off his older young boy image with the colourful almost cartoonish type of clothes.
Yeah, Pearl Jam aren't my fav either. I prefer Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. PJ are kinda neo-hippie once I think about it...
In early '92 they were, yeah. He definitely did want to get away from the poster boy stuff, and I don't blame him. Also, the colourful clothing was fashionable back then, guess he was just being trendy.
God, the ads at the end made me wanna smack the computer screen. Mike seemed sort of bored, uninterested in the performance, I dunno, just compared to other performances that's how it seems.
Yeah, he did look sort of grungy but the Godflesh (I think) shirt underneath isn't something you'd see Eddie Vedder wearing. Besides, you can't go wrong with the grunge look!!!
Mike kinda looked grungy in this performance. Like he borrowed Eddie Vedder's outfit for this performance. The ads and news reporter talk were a bit annoying, but at least they closed the show...like they were some super giant monster rock band!!!
