The protest in Oakland had a permit, but they knew, or should have been well-aware of the violent reputation of the Oakland police. Protesting in Oakland was sheer ludicrous. Riots centuries ago had little effect in the long run. Even Napoleon was eventually crushed and the royalty reinstated in France.
