Marine Debris Removal in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands

I'm happy to learn there are people cleaning the ocean. I wonder if it's possible to clean the great Pacific garbage patch filled with plastics of every shape and size? I'm told it's the size of half the United States. Others say it's bigger than the U.S. & 90ft deep. Even if the plastic can be removed where do we put it? Plastic isn't biodegradable & should be banned. I don't think all that plastic drifted out to sea - maybe some did. I think it's barged & dumbed there.
